Vanquish kills Gears of War!!!

I really don't think there's any "western bias" going on here. Vanquish currently has a lower metacritic rating than Fallout New Vegas. It doesn't come close to Gears 94 and 93 ratings.

Just opinions though. I'm all for Japanese games, but I didn't like the demo. I'll give it another try sometime and see if I was just "playing it wrong".

the excessive bullet time is what makes this game kind of medicore

turns the gameplay into more of a visual thing than a fun experience, bullet time can be fun but too much bullet time will make the game kind of easy, its like batman's xray vision, you can leave it on all game so being able to see everything releases any tension the sneaking around could have made.

It killed the Uncharted series though, that's for sure :)

and videos didn't really make me think it gets better, i didn't like the bullet time being so spammable as it was, why would i want it in excess.

I actually enjoyed Vanquish demo more than any GeoW or Uncharted game also GS review confirmed it for me its a great game I'm getting it as soon as possible.

I'm not much of a fan of TPS's, uncharted to me is one of the only ones to do it right (along with vanquish).

well there is also not much stuff around that goes flying in mid slow mow or for bodies to fall into, bullet time in this game feels empty, like its just a way to aim better and bring intense moments into a spectacle rather then be intense.savagetwinkie

To each his own. I find rag-doll physics to be a bit over-done. Watching in slo-mo as bullets whiz by your head, sparks and chunks flying off of the bots as you shoot them, explosions, particles, etc. all looks amazing in Vanquish, and far more impressive than watching body parts flail around they're made out of rubber.

Funny how so many games have copied the gameplay, it set the standard for TPS, it is also one of the best looking games on the 360. You should sell your 360, it seems to be everything you hate in a single console.

Yeah I agree. Combat in Vanqiush is just so much cooler than in Gears. It's nice to actually have some mobility, rather than playing as some lumbering linebacker.

Gears is good. The graphics are very nice, and it has multiplayer and Horde mode, which are cool extras.

That said, Vanquish is head and shoulders above it when it comes to gameplay, in just about every way. Gears feels really simplistic compared to it, and the enemy designs in Vanquish encourage more creative and reactive play than the lumbering brutes of Gears.

The Challenge Mode demo is a much better exhibition of Vanquish's gameplay diversity, so hopefully, it'll come to the US soon so people can check it out.

Also this. Constantly popping up and down from cover shooting just isn't as fun as flying around at break-neck speeds while pulling off insanely stylized moves in slow-mo. For me Gears seriously needs more things to break up the constant cover shooting (and no, not more crappy driving sequences). It would seriously benefit from more epic set-pieces.

It was dissapointing to put all that work into it only to not get a sticky but ohwell. My joy of seeing Vanquish score a 9 far out-weighed the dissapointment.

Yeah, they just need to combine the best aspects of both games, and Epic seriously needs to take notes from other devs on boss fights. Skorge and the Lambent Brumak were some of the most pathetic excuses for boss fights I have ever seen. I did find the lake monster fight to be pretty creative and fun however, so Epic does seem to have some potential in that area. They really need to improve on breaking up the constant shooting though. ALL of the driving sequences were probably the biggest low points of both games for me, and I just wasn't feeling the mission in Gears 1 where you gotta stay in the light to avoid Kryll. The razor rain in Gears 2 was pretty much the same thing with a different coat of paint, and even less fun. There's just soooo many things that need improvement.

Vanquish seems to have most things down great. They just need to try a little harder with the story and a longer campaign wouldn't hurt.

Not getting it stickied isnt a big deal since this game was only stickied for like half a day. Your thread rocked, it was informative and it had alot of comments/activity, thats all that really matters.

I tried to compile all the info I could, but I could have organised it better and threw some more pictures in there. I think I will just let someone else handle the hype thread for the sequel, if there is one (I hope to god there is). There's alot of talented folks in SW.

Both are great games, and without Gears of War I think Vanquish might have turned out very different.

I'm happy this game scored extremely well. I played the demo when it first came out on the marketplace and boy was it intense. I might pick it up around Christmas...or before if i give in to the temptation. :lol:
