[QUOTE="themajormayor"] So what you're saying is this individual good was selling at higher revenue than cost? But the whole division wasn't? But if there are no individual figures for Playstation how do you know if the PS3 has been overall profitable or not? Oh yeah? But did you get a B??themajormayor

Probably not. Sony should have been more conservative with their resources. Many of the games this gen were fine on DVD on the 360 so it would stand to reason it wasn't necessary this gen for the PS3. But it does have the nice benefit of letting me watch blu-ray movies, but I could do that on my computer or blu-ray player so it isn't much of a bonus really.

[QUOTE="themajormayor"][QUOTE="delta3074"]i won't ever get a full degree, i work in a factory, i did work expereience for legal and general assurance and was put off working in an office for life, i did my Btec years ago after i left the Army, it's probably out of date but i will never forget the knowledge, although i am quite savvy at Maths and finances it's not my thing, my parents pressured me into doing it thinking i would become a bank manager or business man one day but i have very different ideas, my family used to be lords in northampton where i live, sir thomas samwell was the first baronet and MP for northamptonshire and we have a family crest and all that, my parents where just trying to reacpture all of that but i ain't interested, i like being a peasant and i have no asppirations to be rich, i just want to live my life and game and support my wife and kids, doing finances actually gives me a headache,loldelta3074
I know where you're coming from. I feel the same way. I don't care about becoming rich and all that. Just want a normal life and so on. The thing is after working at some "bad" jobs I realized I can't spend 8 hours a day on sh*t like that the rest of my life. That's why I started to learn economics & math now so I can maybe get a job with lots of variation.

i hope you do well mate, i know how you feel about 'bad' jobs, had a few myself and i can understand that you don't want to spend the rest of your life just earning enough money to literally 'exist' so to speak, i also know it's hard for gamers like us to do boring and mundane jobs, i operate an injection mould power press so my job has a bit of variety, good luck with the future and keep on gaming!

Thanks and you too my friend! Yup you understand exactly what I mean. And you're right maybe especially for us as gamers. That's why I took math, I feel somehow it's somewhat connected to my gaming interest. I have no idea what that is but it sounds cool lol. Thanks again and good luck!

I've no idea what that is. What does it say? Cause I'm certain we still have what's called "kandidatexamen" for 3 years giving us a bachelor of science and stuff like that. You can see here kinda http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bologna_Process#Sweden

ah makes sense, in my case, shamefully... I forgot most of what I learned, I had two courses in mathematics, but they're not really necessary for my area :P

the bologna process is the EU's attempt at making college education the same (or at least comparable) for the entire EU, as a result, we've lost the bachelor's degree here.

I actually would have had a bachelor's by now if it wasn't for the Bologna process

Ah well. I'd always like to think math is always good regardless of what you're doing. It's IMO the most important subject.

basic highschool math will most likely stick with me, but the more complicated matrixes and anti derivatives are starting to fade away

Lol 8 GB? Ooooh so scary, Blu Ray is 50 GB! Looks like you shot yourself in the foot choosing to buy such an obvioulsyinferior format, and you chose to do so knowing about the better one. That's even worse.

And lol at thinking MS is the only one making profit, Sony is doing fine mr Delta. Get over your obsession with them going under, must be the Lem drugs you've been taking, who sold them to you? Was it LooseENDS? I told you not to play with him, he has multiple personalities you know.

Drugs arn't cool man, if you want to be cool buy a PS3, that's what makes you REALLY cool, trust me I know, I have PS3 and I'm REALLY cool.

delta3074

Got a ps3 a few days ago and the exclusives are amazing the bluray really does help the ps3 produce superior graphics to the xbox 360.You were right about the ps3 exclusives being good how is killzone 3.

no it doesn't, thats a myth, trust me, Blu-ray cannot create better graphics , you need RAM/GPU to create graphics not storage, both consoles can only upload 512MB to there RAM pools at any one time, learn how hardware works kid.

He's right, more storage cannot create better graphics. It does however leave enough space so if future games have better graphics they have enough space to fit the high rez textures, cutscenes, and pretty much everything else.

of course it was, this is a no brainer. if the ps3 didn't have blu-ray, blu-ray would have lost the format war against hddvd and we would be forced to buy inferior products.

sony purposely handicapped its playstation division by doing this but it worked (blu ray won the format war) and that's why the ps3 has actually been hugely successful for sony. people tend to forget that sony does a lot more than just make video games. video games are a very small fraction of the company's total revenue.

[QUOTE="delta3074"][QUOTE="themajormayor"] Wait you mean like a bachelor degree?? Yeah but most of their revenue comes from software sales so you have to keep that in mind too.themajormayor
i am not sure what the US equivelent is,yeah, i know the majority of the revenue and operational income comes from software and that appears to be a very strong area for SONY at the moment, i just wish they had a franchise that could sell on the same level as Halo, my fave Ps3 game is KZ2 and i actually thought that would be the Ps equivelent of Halo and i suppose it would have been if slack jawed gamers hadn't complained so much about the controls which i though where brilliant, added a real chellenge and the feeling that 'OMG i am actually playing this game with skill' then they sold out and codified it with KZ3, i really love having to compensate for recoil in a game and the fact that you couldn't vault a wall like superman, i loved the physics as well and the weapond models where top notch.

No I live in Europe we have bachelor here too. 3 years. So if you're halfway there I'm only 2/3 less than you. Yeah wish that too. But personally I'm happy since I rather play Demon's Souls & Uncharted 3 than a bad game that sells well(not implying Halo is bad, never played it) I never played KZ2 but KZ3 is one of my favorite games in a long time. Judging only from KZ3 I still think the controls are great. They're very satisfactory and got nice heavy feeling.

yeah dude, i wouldve humbled up by this point too! cause delta was eating your rectum!

The PS3 is one of the KEY reasons HD DVD is no longer around today. Thus, blu ray was a smart move on Sony's part.
