Well, in Ep. 2
They locate the Borealis, which is research vessel that was 'lost', but that ship is from rival research facility 'Aperture' (of Portal fame)
I'd love to see some cross-over with that 3545895097.gif

That's true, never thought about the Portal gun making an appearance in the next Half Life chapter. I think there was a mod that allowed you to do that in HL2 though :P

Bug bait was awesome and I was sad to see it gone after Nova Prospekt.

It was useless since Antlions were not going to show any appearances in later levels.

And you got the supercharged gravity gun at the end which kinda makes up for the lack of bugbait. Half life games always had great and inventive weapons. I wonder what they will come up with next. That is a reason why I love shooters set in a fantasy universe more than modern day shooters.

Modern day shooters always have the same boring arsenal of weapons. Nothing creative, nothing that stands out.

I completely agree. Valve are just amazing. Also, I don't think Half Life 2 was that linear, as some fanboys state, some levels in Episode 2 were HUGE!.

It's not more or less linear than other shooters. Even crysis, a shooter which I praise for its openess, is in its essence still a linear shooter. At the end of the day you are still going from point A to B.

But Crysis permits you to do your objective in a plethora of ways.

Half-Life et al is linear for sure, but the difference between it and something like Battlefield 3's campaign is the whole "railroading" thing. Mainly, Half-Life 2 gives actual room for player agency. For example, in Nova Prospekt there's that part where you have four doorways to guard and three turrets you can set up. I found that I could stack a bunch of boxes in front of one of the doorways, and you know what? That was a valid strategy, and the game didn't force me into anything. That's the difference between a game being linear and a game being scripted to hell.

They tried jumping on the "horror shooter" bandwagon that was made popular by Doom 3 (& innovated by Aliens vs Predator) but I think Doom 3 and F.E.A.R. did a better job at being scary. (AvP2 is still tops tho)
