something free is a flop when you never have the desire to go to it, and you feel it takes unnecessary room on your hard drive.

which means i would rather have nothing, than have home.

pretty much, i.e. Runescape.

It is an immense flop. It was so bad that I never used it after the first time I went on (I know this would happen way b4 it came out). It is so bad that whenever I pick PS Home instead of the store on the XMB, I get pretty close to chucking my controller......but then PS Home will be stuck on the screen, so I tap the PS button like a mad man so I can quit the game.

Tulak_Hord
Just delete it off the hard drive.

How can something that isn't even finished be a flop? It has great potential and in 2 years will be an incredible service.

The amount of content in Home still needs to be fleshed out but as a lobby for people to talk its fine.

Which is exactly what Sony wanted. In my opinion, I don't care if they still refer to it as an "open beta". If they didn't want it to be judged, they shouldn't have opened it to the public to begin with.

MS should have called the 360 the "Xbox 360 Open Beta", that way no one would be able to complain about the RRoD/E74.

it was a flop, is a flop and all ways will be a flop why would any user use a seperate application with all its loading times...ect when you can do it easier and faster outside of that application.

from a marketing pov then yes it was a huge flop for sony even if they have made over 3 million dollars off it,

to gamers however i dont see how it can be a flop since its neither a game nor a console, so it wasnt expected to "sell" units nor was is reviewed so i still dont know how it is a flop, that being said, it is still a useless service that as you said everything is easier and faster outside of home, its not even that great as a social app at this point in time

I don't have a PS3 yet, but from my understanding, Home is a optional download. Am I wrong? I mean if you choose to download it, then it was you that took up that HDD space. And can't you delete it off the HDD?

you're right, if it's bad enough i need to remove it then it is a flop. and you make a good point, sony has such little faith in it that they allow you to get rid of it. thanks, i hadn't thought of it like that.

forget beta crutch, this is worse. this is the whole "someday the ps3 will be worth the money" crap. i just wish you could have a long conversation about the ps3 without talking about what it may have in the future. you can never keep it reserved to what actually exists.

i think i'm just jaded by too many games having come out that were supposed to be revolutionary and were at best mediocre. the best game i've played lately is left 4 dead and that runs on an engine that's twelve years old.

people say that Home sucks and they consider it a game. well home isn't a game. its just the PS3's community. you can't say its a success or a flop. its basically the dashboard on PSN. it doesn't make PSN better or worse. just adds more things for you to waste your time on.

um yes you can say its a success or a flop because its an entirely and completely seperate application from the XMB it was ment to be used as a place where people went to do their common day to day psn acitivities such as talking with friends, launching games...ect and no one really uses it for these functions its an entirely seperate application that allows you to do in a much more time wasting manner what can all ready be done no ones going to use that.

Home is great it gives tons of content for free and the game has great graphics for what it does. Home spaces are awesome idea and gives more free content like ps3 users get a RE5 Home space with mini game + decorations for your Home to win, while 360 users have to pay just to play it online. anyway this recent video is pretty good:) http://www.viddler.com/explore/sceablog/videos/351/1.401

Never was interested in HOME... If I was Sony i would have invested the moneyspent onHome in a different way, maybe not cancelling games such as 8 Days, which would eventually sell copies and return some profit..

Home is rubbish and a waste of time logging in to. It's a complete waste of time and money that would have been better spent improving PSN. Way to go Sony.

lol. no it won't. it's not even a service... it's a social / advertising hub. what does it provide that the PS3 with voice chat didn't? the ability for lechs to stalk female avatars? the ability to walk around in racist gangs and harass other racial avatars? they've already had to dumb the service down because of these people... i think it's a hardcore fail. it didn't live up to any of the hype or promises sony put out when they first started running trailers.

Well, depends on who you ask. As for myself, I have no intentions of ever using it. Just never got into the whole Sims sort of thing. I just need my PS3 for gaming, same with my 360.

So, a service that was flaunted and hyped for literally years on end, had millions invested in it, and was supposed to be one of the defining services that the PS3 could offer....is just "something you can waste your time on"? Sounds like an epic fail to me.

8 days development apparently wasn't going too well , and their portfolio (and the industry) is filled with third person action games as it is. There's no shortage of games for gamers and there won't be , so something like Home designed for a more mainstream audience makes a lot more business sense to me , and I'm sure Sony feels the same way.As long as they are getting the participation numbers, ad purchases , content purchases , and third party involvement from publishers ...... they should keep on keepin on.

At first I thought Home sounded like aneat idea, but the more I thought about Home, the more I realized it was destined to fail. It really only appeals to gamers who like MMOs and Sims-type games.

I mean, who really wants to walk around a virtual world to meet gamers to play games? Why not just insert the game you want to play and find other gamers in the game?

I don't play the Sims or MMOs (no desire to) and I use it from time to time. I'm not sure why people that use gamespot.com forums a lot should really be so perplexed that people like to communicate or participate in things like these.

Because communicating on a text based forum is far different that a voice based virtual world. They are structured very differently from one another.

Really, the only similarity is that both are online.....oh and centered around gaming. I too use Home from time to time to see what's new, but every time I come away thinking "Nope, still doesn't do anything for me".

Hmm sounds like you've never been on it, there are other things to do on Home, e.g. i enjoy playing pool with my friends. If it gets some more spaces and the ability to launch more games then it'll be great. It's no worse than the racial abuse that goes on in game lobbys, 2 years of hard work it could be really good. Right now it's mediocore but it's not even finished so i think people should lay off the hate and look at what i could be like in the future, it's similar to taking a game when it's being made say it flops but what actually counts is when it's finished.

[QUOTE="3picuri3"][QUOTE="Nike_Air"]I don't play the Sims or MMOs (no desire to) and I use it from time to time. I'm not sure why people that use gamespot.com forums a lot should really be so perplexed that people like to communicate or participate in things like these.

i think there is a large difference between an open community forum, and a concept like Home. maybe not to you, but to many many many other people there is ;)

To many there isn't.That's part of the point , why are people so perplexedthat otherswould use or want to something like this? ;)

i don't agree with that assessment. if you were right Home would be more popular, more populated, and more critically acclaimed.

to me it comes off as a shill advertising space for people to have closed chats in what looks like a shopping mall. discussing whatever you want in an open and public way with a mature (somewhat) audience that abides by the ToU without having to basically intrude in to a conversation is something completely different. so to answer your question, i guess we're perplexed at why people would find the concept of Home, or rather it's current implementation, appealing in any sense whatsoever, unless they already live in a socially deprived environment where having avatars stand in a virtual environment somehow makes it more appealing than say - coming to GS to discuss a variety of topics without having to walk around awkwardly wondering if any particular group will kick you or not accept you joining them in conversation.

i find it fake. fake and full of adverts and shallow and poorly implemented. i guess that's why i'm perplexed as to why people would use it at all, and why i'm not shocked that it was critically panned and hardly anyone uses it relative to the total install base for the PS3.

[QUOTE="3picuri3"][QUOTE="hoosier7"]How can something that isn't even finished be a flop? It has great potential and in 2 years will be an incredible service.hoosier7
lol. no it won't. it's not even a service... it's a social / advertising hub. what does it provide that the PS3 with voice chat didn't? the ability for lechs to stalk female avatars? the ability to walk around in racist gangs and harass other racial avatars? they've already had to dumb the service down because of these people... i think it's a hardcore fail. it didn't live up to any of the hype or promises sony put out when they first started running trailers.

Right now it's mediocore but it's not even finished so i think people should lay off the hate and look at what i could be like in the future, it's similar to taking a game when it's being made say it flops but what actually counts is when it's finished.

trust me, i was on it during beta, visited post beta. if i want to play a game with my friends i play a game - if i want to play pool i leave my house. those are shallow distractions to take your attention away from what home really is. a vehicle for microtrans and advertising.

Home is for people without any real friends. I tried it out a few weeks which made me come to this conclusion. Not only that, it's full of horny little kids asking for naked pictures of girls.. It's also boring and there's nothing to do.

I find playing pool fun with my friends, besides there isn't a decent pub nearby myself or my friends, basically i enjoy some of the aspects of home, sounds like you don't. It provides an easy online place for myself and my friends to meet and decide on what to play, e.g. bit of pool whilst catching up, game of chess and into a bit of cod 4. It's nice to have when it's free, i just don't think it deserves the hate it gets. You must admit it has potential

And some people feel the same way about gamespot.com forums when they visit ...... "nope, still doesn't do anythign for me". That's the whole point of questioning why you are questioning why others would use it.

I get your point. But if we're to go by this thread, then we can conclude that Home doesn't appeal to the gamers it what supposed to. It seems it only appeals to a very small subset of gamers. You yourself admitted to only going in HOme occasionally, not regularly. The gaming press (mainly console gamers)has been largely negative on Home.

I think Home could've been more successful on PC, but not on a console. That was my point.

I was really looking forward to it, but overall it's been kind of disappointing. It is a good ay to waste a few hours when your bored though.
