RE4 is and always will be the greatest game ever made. It's not really survival horror but that doesn't matter. The game is perfect every which way.

That's my personal fav. It's still easier than the Resident Evil 1 -> Code Veronica games, but it's offset by its incredible cerebral horror.

Hell yeah man. It's the only game where I actually had to take breaks from playing it. It freaked me out that much.

That brings back fond memories. I kind of forgotten that sound played such an important role in making SH3 so frightening. I wish more games today were like that. Dead Space does a great job with it's sound but the game it's self isn't really scary.

The one moment of SH3 that will always stand out in my mind is when you knocked on the bathroom stall door, walked away, and then the door slowly opened by it's self. That right there was enough to make me pause the game. You seldom see brilliance like that in video games anymore. My hat is off to Team Silent, one of the greatest developers out there.

That's my second fav. I find it in between the gameplay edge of RE and the cerebral edge of Silent Hill though.

never played 2 or 3... but from what ive understood over the years... the series has mostly been about bioterrorism, whether the zombie fans want to admit it or not. A virus causing all these 'monsters' and mutations.. Hence why its called biohazard in japan. The series gets too much hate post re3

I think alot of the Purists miss the oldschool games more for the survival and exploration aspects..and were generally dissapointed with RE4-5 for lack of these said features. (this will probably be the case with RE6 as well)

I actually enjoyed the Foggy European Village/Countryside setting in RE4 and the Las Plagas. Was atmospheric and a few times reminded of HP Lovecraft.

RE4 is and always will be the greatest game ever made. It's not really survival horror but that doesn't matter. The game is perfect every which way.

no it is not even considered an RE it was the start of it's downfall now RE is going to be another action game jumbled in a stream of thousands of action games with nothing unique and it will be forgotten without it's dignity

RE2 is the best. In that era, it was the best.
The Licker Scene!

RE4 got more mass appeal.
Hence.. RE4 = RE5 = RE6.
Same format and plus the story has evolved and characters to learn to stock up on ammo now ;)

RE: Remake > RE 2 > RE: Code Veronica. That's for the series.

But true survival horror is either Silent Hill or Fatal Frame.

Horror isn't defined as suspenseful or scary. It's just a vibe of shock, fear, and disgust. RE4 had plenty of horrific elements. I think it's an action horror title, like Dead Space.

Perfect? are you serious ? Though I praise it's game mechanics are quite good a lot of things are wrong.

First... The enemy design was dull....

second a lot of things in the game didn't make sense and made the whole thing seem stupid. That weird armament in the end? The last boss turned into some random sh!t ? A giant statue that just starts walking out of nowhere ? These mechanics take away a little bit of the joy in the game because it's just makes it seem soooo stupid.

It is a dam good RE game but wouldint call it the best survival horror game. I find SH and siren series better in that regard. On a side note I personally feel REmake is the pinical of survival horror in RE series.

imo there was very few atmospheric moments. Only ones I can think of is the rain part and the part where ur facing that monster in the basement. It even got worse in atmospher when the gun guys started to show up.

yep it was survival horror at its best had a great story too.
RE3 wasn't nearly as good, Code veronica kind of sucked because it introduced some really sweeping changes to the established story, RE0 was okay it changed the story but it had really quantified down the great mechanics, REmake was great though still story was changed. RE4 sucked total action game for the most part with s*** story, and RE5? lol need I say more?

I stick with the books by SD perry, and RE 0 with RE1-3 as well as REmake as my game base I ignore code veronica for the most part and any game released after.

The village is like one third of the game and the only good part survival horror wise. The rest is not so well executed even when the premises were good, a creepy castle and the almost obligatory lab.

For me it's 2>REmake>CV>3>4>1>0>5

When I was 10. I'd take 4 over that now even though it's not much of a horror game.
