REmake is the best Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness is the best survival horror..no contest.
Captain_Lorelli
I second that. Third place would go to RE2, maybe.

Am I the only one that liked 3 more then 2? Also REmake was better then 2 also imo.
finalfantasy94
Right here. I still highly enjoy 2 but I like 3 more.
Hardcore RE fan here and I am with both of you. Although RE2 was the better game, I enjoyed RE3 much more. It was the harder game by far.As for best RE game in the context of survival horror, REmake takes the cake by a landslide. No RE game will come close to it.
Yeah it was incredible Resident Evil 1 was also like that, many time i had to ran like hell because i had no ammo.basically you had a gun the thing ran outa ammo all the time, an like u were like always on edge
these new ones all just like timing events an like ur guns always gonna tons of ammo an its like a arcade game im not scared at all an like i feel like im just wrecking massives amounts of stuff an like just no dude this is survival this isn't omg i gotta be worried dude
u kno?
maybe im just nostaligic an like old games but dude there something very diff with restident evil 2 an like resident evil 4 an 5 i dunno what is but i see something in the gameplay diff

RE2 is the best RE, but RE remake for the GC would be the scariest. It's pretty easy going through RE2 now and days, I beat it a few weeks ago in an hour and 10 min.

[QUOTE="FrozenLiquid"] That's my personal fav. It's still easier than the Resident Evil 1 -> Code Veronica games, but it's offset by its incredible cerebral horror.FrozenLiquid
Hell yeah man. It's the only game where I actually had to take breaks from playing it. It freaked me out that much.

I remember that like it was yesterday. Found this youtube video as well.
Welcome back to Hell.

Wow I actually have seen that video myself. If anything, I found the sound design really creepy in that game. The creatures and the ambient 'music' really hits me. :DResident Evil games were never scary. Back then, they were just a bunch of overglorified point and click adventure games and nowadays they're just a bunch of overglorified TPSs.
Silent Hill 2 is the best horror game. I wouldn't call it survival though, because the fear of death isn't that scary in SH games.
Resident Evil 4 is the best survival horror game. That game is just pure perfection.
the thread tittle clearly says "survival horror" so RE4 is out of place. and tbh I prefer RE3RE4 is and always will be the greatest game ever made. It's not really survival horror but that doesn't matter. The game is perfect every which way.

Says SH 2 is not survival horror, yet RE4 is. :lol:Silent Hill 2 is the best horror game. I wouldn't call it survival though, because the fear of death isn't that scary in SH games.

By that logic I guess every game where you can die is a survival game. You use that logic and say SH2 isn't. You should really think your logic over.[QUOTE="FrozenLiquid"]

That brings back fond memories. I kind of forgotten that sound played such an important role in making SH3 so frightening. I wish more games today were like that. Dead Space does a great job with it's sound but the game it's self isn't really scary.
The one moment of SH3 that will always stand out in my mind is when you knocked on the bathroom stall door, walked away, and then the door slowly opened by it's self. That right there was enough to make me pause the game. You seldom see brilliance like that in video games anymore. My hat is off to Team Silent, one of the greatest developers out there.
Well if you want you can watch it being played in HD (not HD collection version). I played through the whole game and uploaded my whole playthrough to youtube in high quality 1200P with the least amount of compression. To me the most disturbing parts were in the hospital when everything goes to hell. Here are all of my videos from Silent Hill 3. Just be sure to watch it in "Original" resolution mode for the best quality. Part 1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5x2-lhbiKGE Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IIRhaFJPt0 Part 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7BBDh0_jfQ Part 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJsNT96dw_g Part 5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swirKIxvSdQ Part 6 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGfw5_qwuHQare you stupid or something? survival horror isnt about "being afraid of dying!" survival horror is a game that gives you scarce resources and terrible chances at fighting enemies. RE4 had a huge freaking arsenal backed up with tons of lead and medicines so that you would never ran out, and leon was a killing machine, the gameplay enabled him to be that. compare that to puny human james, running around with barely enough bullets to fend off enemies in an extremely narrow hallway (that most likely wont be cleared) or having to go around town knowing the biggest weapon you'll get will be a regular hunting rifle that BARELY HAS BULLETS. how isn't it survival horror and RE4 is?Silent Hill 2 is the best horror game. I wouldn't call it survival though, because the fear of death isn't that scary in SH games.

Well those people are stupid. I find a survival horror game to be defined as going up against overwhelming odds with little in the way of defending yourself. It's about playing as a normal (well not normal in terms of SH) human being, not some crzy powerful guy who can kill hundreds of soldiers, or aliens, or monsters, It's about picking your battles, and not killing everything in sight, Frictional games knows what survival horror is.Thats what i use to think, then realized how shocking the gameplay is, you still can't move and his melee animations are so overblown sending enemies flying across half the land. If it wasn't for some great atmosphere and enemies...the game would've been overlooked. It does something well. but with all the ammo avaliable and a merchant...it's hard to take it seriously as a RESIDENT EVIL game, IMO.RE4 is and always will be the greatest game ever made. It's not really survival horror but that doesn't matter. The game is perfect every which way.

[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"]F*ck no.JynxzorHey! Don't you diss RE2 had some of the best moments of the series, seriously that damn interogation room....that damn interogation room... Even if we take into account our differences on Resident Evil(mostly 4, and the old games, I think we both are a bit on the same page that RE 5 is dumb(albeit I think it's fun in coop) and that RE 6 looks hella dumb) there is no way RE2 even has a case for best game using that older formula.

Yea a guy with a small arsenal of weapons jusy chilling in the middle of nowhere with monsters running loose really made sense. :roll:and Nemesis(...well toss up, I like Nemesis)jg4xchampPersonally I liked RE3 the best of the classic series, the guy really came out of nowhere all the time. Also his voice was spot on, I have no idea why they have changed it every time he has graced the screen sense. Still get a chill down my spine when I hear S.T.A.R.S.... Silent Hill did horror really well (It's fallen off the wagon recently as well) but it never gave me that utter dread of meeting a monster that Resident Evil did. Silent hill was always more of a Mind F*ck horror, where Resident Evil went for very visceral and "Real" horror. Being set in the real world and not spooky hell world helped it alot for me. Then again them guys who hid under cars in Silent hill...got me everytime. It's such a shame that the biggest awesome parts of Silent Hill were mere technical limitations half the time (mainly the fog) the even Konami didn't realize because they somehow goofed it with the HD remakes.

Yea a guy with a small arsenal of weapons jusy chilling in the middle of nowhere with monsters running loose really made sense. :roll:I'm not saying that it made logical sense, but the gameplay and story of RE4 are essentially one man taking on an army. A ridiculous arsenal at his disposal made sense in that context.

The execution of Nemesis was great, but I liked Birkin better. Although Nemesis was arguably Birkin and Mr. X taken to the next level, it felt a bit "been there done that" to me, especially coming directly after RE2. Love RE3 though and would take "been there done that" over whatever Capcom is doing now. Although we did get Rachel in Revelations.
