Never played it, but I imagine Mass Effect is way better.

RPG? Lol, no.
Open-world action-adventure? Sure.
that, and only on PC. Skyrim on consoles is a joke
And people like you are why I avoid being a PC gamer. Stop being gaming-racist. Consolites are people too.
because a version that runs sub 30fps, sub HD, looks like diarrhea, and has more bugs is totally awesome
I experienced no real bugs or glitches whatsoever in my 300+ hour playthrough.
Most games run at 30 FPS.
sub HD? Wtf are you on about?
Looks like diarrhea? It looks perfectly fucking fine. Real gamers are not "grafix whores" such as yourself and every other member of the so-called "masta rais."
A great RPG to be sure, but best of the 7th gen goes to Mass Effect trilogy.
And yes, it IS an RPG series :P
Now that I've beaten the first game and am in the middle of the second, you can put me on the list of people who think ME is an RPG as well. :) (if that is what you're talking about as I remember those arguments, if not... well, I feel as embarrassed as the Rap Critic when he said something stupid near one of his cameos).
I am 180 hours into my third playthrough of Oblivion on 360.
Wanna compare shit?
Holy shit, defensive much?
Console Bethesda games are passable. They aren't bad, but they aren't terribly good either. Playing them on the PC is something everyone who ENJOYS them should endeavour to do, because the mods really change the experience.
I first played Skyrim shortly after it came out and the mod scene was pretty barren. Got back into it a couple months ago and the mods make it significantly better.

It's an uphill battle, but truth will prevail :)

Okay, good for you? That looks really amazing, yes, but I am a real gamer, so those PC graphics will not stop me from loving an already spectacular game on consoles, despite lower quality graphics.
I had tons of fun with Skyrim but it's not the best. I hope that for the next ES game they put some more effort in their dungeon designs. What's the point of having all of those dungeons if each and every one of them looks fairly similar, are super linear, and don't contain any interesting puzzles or anything like that to break up the action? Also some better writers wouldn't hurt. All that said I'm super excite for a next gen ES.
i liked fallout 3 and oblivion and mass effect 1 the best. kind of dated as far as graphics though. skyrim probably was the best overall as far as everything coming together. just thought some of it got a little bit cheesed. mass effect 1 vs the later mass effects was kind of the same to me. thought the witcher and dragon age were kind of overrated as far as series.
1. Fallout 3
2. Oblivion
3. mass effect 1
4. skyrim
5. fable 2
honorable mentions: new vegas, mass effect 2 and 3.
everything else i didnt find worth playing.
No, Skyrim is the most overrated RPG of all time......so many problems ignored by reviewers.
Nevermind it commits the ultimate sin....I never was truly rewarded in the game for the things I did, because the leveling system is sooooooooooo bad.
I mean quest rewards are Ultima IX Lighthouse Quest bad.
New Vegas or the Souls series for me. Skyrim was a good game but not a great RPG. The melee gameplay still sucks, although it was improved from Oblivion.
Skyrim is the most accessible RPG that allows the greatest number of people to have a relatively good time. It is however far from the best.
Witcher 2 and Dark Souls 1/2 are vastly superior when it comes to Western-style RPG, but both games are less accessible in different ways.
It's no Fallout 3, that's for sure.
Fallout 3 was a steaming pile of shit.
Glad somebody else finally said it and stopped kissing Fallout 3s ass.
Fallout 3 is better than any game either of you played last gen.
Comparitively, Skyrim is like watching paint dry.

I really just don't see the appeal of Fallout.
The Wasteland is a good way to describe the game as a whole: empty, and full of a whole lot of nothing.
I'd have to agree Skyrim is the best RPG of gen 7, it would look something like this
@Motokid6: oooooOoooo hunterborn looks like an interesting mod. i didnt know about that one. must give it a go next time i am playing skyrim. frostfall is something bethesda should have done themselves for skyrim. it has a massive effect on the game and the way it is played in a very positive way.
i would give the nod to witcher 1 and 2 and xenoblade over skyrim. they had more interesting game mechanics, the stories were much better and they were more interesting to explore. the world ends with you on the DS is also worth a mention (so gutted last year when the teaser turned out to be a port to IOS....blech.). top notch game.
however skyrim was still great (especially with forstfall). better than oblivion but not as good as morrowind imho.
That award goes to Xenoblade Chronicles. the game that has an actual battle system with a unique world, killer soundtrack, great story with lots of drama, and has a magnificent artstyle. And it has British voices.
I mean quest rewards are Ultima IX Lighthouse Quest bad.
Oh...hell, son...you didn't. But you so did.
I really can't think of anything else that I enjoyed more. The world and story were fantastic, the gameplay was fun, the graphics were amazing for its time. The sidequests were great, which other RPGs seem to have trouble with. Also, decisions you made in the game actually had some weight. Not to mention the numerous GOTY awards it won, probably even more than The Last of Us. So can we agree that it was the best RPG of 7th gen? Btw, can't wait for the next Fallout!
Hard to say Fallout 3, fallout new vegas, dark souls, dragons dogma, fable II , oblivion, mass effect were all very good rpg's.
A lot of these games do some things better than skyrim does BUT
Skryim is so big, a living and breathing world
That I must completely agree, Probably spend a 1000 hours in that game, or more...
Btw the last of us isn't even in the same league as all the games mentioned above. And yes the next fallout but dark soul IIs is coming to the pc so that my next thing. Don't think fallout will be soon though

You can throw together a pretty cheap system that makes the console counterpart look like turd and still look pretty. Not ground breaking like a middle of the pack $1k system, but still much much better. I cannot imagine playing it on the console, all the keys, toying with console commands like spawning 10 dragons, mods, LOAD TIMES, graphics, and what not.
I was running the game on vanilla on native 1080p, and my friend was already blown away by the visuals. I haven't got around throwing all the crazy mods myself, but I'd imagine that the hermits experienced ps4 level visuals with skyrim. Oh heck you can plug your controller into the pc and pretend your playing skyrim on the ps4/xbone. Pretty much the reason why I am holding out on the next gen until next year when there are finally a library to choose from.
I play consoles too, but pc is just a better experience to be had. It is rare for anyone to argue against a pc once they experience it. Those that are console exclusive, typically find ways to justify sticking to consoles, and make assumptions, imo.
@op, this gen is a let down for rpg. Not a fan of all the open world rpg and the traditional jrpg is dead to me now sadly, but I'd say skryim is up there. I just don't have a definitive number 1 in mind.

so all you got out of my screenshots was graphics? You missed the fact I'm playing on a completely different continent with its own quest lines and themes and items, the fact I'm a bard class that plays music as a skill, among other things. It goes deeper than graphics, but I'm not surprised that someone whose had no experience of the Elder scrolls main platform would think the only think it has different is visuals. Go read the Nexus sometime and check out the free content
@Bikouchu35: I know what you mean. I play skyrim on my cheap midrange laptop. Ultra settings, hd textures lots of mods. I just don't think you need to brag hard out and be all arrogant about it like cry baby wis3boi. Still brought it for ps3 as well. Why not I like trophy's.

I pointed out the complete lack of care bethesda put (or couldnt even achieve, probably) in their console ports of a PC-centric series, and you got rather upset (legit or not), not me. Why anyone could find the vaseline smear and bug fest that is console skyrim enjoyable is beyond me. Even the most hardcore console fans I know sold their copies and grabbed it on a steam sale just for the mountains of free content alone, and if you have a bug or impassable quest/door, etc on PC, at least a fix is ingame at your fingertips with the command prompt console

yeah, I did.
I get weapons that are outclassed by what I have....they give me junk.
@wis3boi: I just enjoy games in general. I'm not an uptight prick about it. Never had a problem with skyrim on either platform to be honest.
Skyrim is good but gets kind of boring over time whereas Fallout 3 had me playing for hours. Way more interesting NPC's, lore and quests in Fallout 3. You never knew what you were going to read on those computer terminals. In Skyrim, I'd fine books, read a few then end up skimming through the rest. Lusty Argonian Maid was my favorite book in Skyrim though. Plus Fallout 3's leveling system felt more fun.
