Well I decided to find out which multiplayer service is better. I decided to start with Xbox live. I had the headset and microphone. I bought a 1 month xbox live gold card because Microsoft loves money. So I wanted to download some gamerpics and themes, but that also costs money. So i went to download some Halo 3 maps, but that costs even more money. Man I thought to myself, MS LOOVVES charging for everything. Soon they will charge us for breathing.

So I put in Gears in my 360. I start up some ranked matches. "Hello friends" I say. "I am looking forward to playing with you guys and having a great time." At that point this guy says to me: "Yo Mama ishh shoo fats, that Is throws an Ipod at hesh and my PS2 SHHHHNAPPPED in half"

I was like ok, I think I'll try a different Game. So I put in the popular Halo 3 In my 360. Started up matchmaking system. "Hello fellow Gamers" I say. "I hope we can have a nice friendly match"...Silence... "NOOOB!! HEY EVERYBODY LOOK AT THIS NOOB!!" some guy yells. Was eveyone like this on Xbox live?

No more Mr. Nice guy.

I pick up my headset and start firing all these swear words at the guy. Every swear word from A-Z i threw at him. Man that felt good. But now I got a bad rep. Geez, now I can see why everyone is like this on Xbox live. I call Microsoft up and start swearing at them for no reason. Made me feel better.

Enough with live, lets get down to PSN.

First it was free, and that was really great. I liked not having to pay for stuff.

Then I realised why it was free. Do you want to know why its free? Because its crap. Everything about it sems inferior compared to Live.

I called up sony and told them to be more like Microsoft. Then I started swearing at them for no reason . Made me feel better.

I then went back to Xbox live and started swearing at everyone I met. Made me feel better.

Overall:

Xbox Live: Great Online survice, too bad MS charges you for every fart. Also filled with jerks like me. 9/10

PSN: Its free, which is great. Just not as good as Xbox Live. 8/10.

1) Looks at avatar. Dismisses opinion.

2) I have to pay for the "privilege" of playing with people like you? No way.

You call that a review?

All you seemed to do was say XBL was better because you pay to act like a bunch of screaming 9 year olds with random people over the internet. Then you say PSN is worse because it's inferior in everyway without any facts or reasons for opinion..

I don't favour or hate either service/system, but it was a waste of a read :| guess it's not smart to read a PS3/360 comparison thread made by a guy with an Xbox avy.

+1

In all seriousness, your review does not go into much detail. Why don't you dissect them a bit more, instead of just saying Psn is crap and Live is better.

The level of jerks on every online service is simple stagering. That's why I try to stick to more complicated games, to help keep out the stupid people. So most Rainbow 6, and call of Duty 4. It's a shame, gears seems like it would be fun, but every time you get paired up with a six year old, and it just ruins it.

EDIT: and There is one huge reason that no one ever includes. YOU GET TO PLAY XBOX GAMES ON XBL. YOU GET TO PLAY PS3 GAMES ON PSN. Those are the 2 reasons people use online play. Really, if you want to play gears, you have to get XBL, regardless if you want other features. If you want to play resistanc, you need PSN. THe other stuff is nice, but it doesn't really matter, so much as the game your playing.

Live is only $50 dollars a year and you guys act like its $50 a month or sumthing. You pay $50 one time and wont have to worry about paying for a a whole year.I mean whats $50 a year???I mean i wish it was free too just like i wish everything in this word is free but $50 a year isnt bad at all.Like i said before i would rather pay $200 a year to use XBL then to only be able to use PSN for online gaming.

Then you are a complete fanboy, PSN is lag free, playing online for free with no lag is great, only thing live has over psn is features but i just wanna play online for free and buy content seperately, in live you have to pay to play and then pay more for content, noone is more gullible than you people

My "review"

I played PSN over my wireless connection without buying a month card because its free.

I went to the playstation store and downloaded some new themes for free.

I realised that as its a market place things are for sale, as devs like to make money also. So i purchased Pixeljunk Monsters for what amounts to less then a bag of crisps and played for a few hours.

I then popped in warhawk and strategized with my friends on how to beat the other team.

Then I went to my friends house to play Halo while listening to kids swearing at eachother and he complained to me about spending $170 on a wireless adaptor and another $100 for a 1yr XBL subscription (AU)

XBL - 6/10: makes you pay needlesly

PSN - 9/10: has everything you need and is free

It all depends on what your looking for in an online experience, which is why there is no winner in this argument (the PSN vs XBL argument that is).

PSN is NOT lag free this is a myth. only games played on a dedicated server would be lag free. YOU are the gullible 1 if you belive this.

Yeah Xbox live has major problems on one hand, with rude people, people that take it too seriously and racist people.

What is pointless about live is that you get to choose between pro, recreation, underground and family. Everyone chooses recreation but they shoot their mouth off like its underground.

Why do you have to pay for the 1 month, you can get those free can't you? With games or if its your first time.

PS owners, this isn't a bash but when you have online only games such as Warhawk, isn't it slightly useless not communicating with people in general? I don't get that part. Honestly just a question.

I don't play too much online cos I don't like to play with people seriously, so im building up a freinds list first, that can solve many issues, with rude, racist people and people that play too seriously.

Some of the rudeness can get funny, I was test racing the track in Test Drive Unlimited and some European tried to race me, for his own satisfaction, so he got too close and slowed down on one of the corners to take it and he went flying off and shouted something in German, I lmao.

Jokes aside I think a problem is Xbox live is it forces people together, we should have a choice as to which regions or countries we play with, I don't want to play with Europeans because we can't communicate (just gets weired), Americans can take things way way too seriously and tend to get rude/racist. The Euro thing is my experience, but the US thing is mine and just way too many others. No offense to the US, just the annoying guys who go online and try to "oWnZ" everyone. I don't think internet play is ready for such unity especially if no one is going to enforce it. Its just a marketing line which is going stale.

Im not accusing all US players of being racist because thats unfair, but man i've heard/read some story's, it's all about not displaying my name on my gamertag profile.

Strangely enough, even though the review was technically poor I have to agree on one thing. On Xbox Live you get A LOT more random swearing and insults thrown around. Not sure why... :?

my review....ive had XBL for nearly 2 years now, yeah it costs but its not that expensive (like 20p a day....pretty cheap), XBL is really easy to use....sending messages and stuff, private chat, friend requests....all easy to access and you can even access them while playing games, inviting friends into parties is easy too!.....just open ur friends list, click on the gamerprofile of the person you wanna invite then just select the invite option...done...takes no more then 5 seconds, also the gamerprofiles are cool as well, you can see what games everyone has played so far, what game are they playing now, what achievements they have for their games, you can see motto's & bio etc etc pretty cool and just about everyone has a mic, not everybody trash talks like all cows think, there are alot of awesome people on live even loads of kids are pretty good...and also act more mature then most adults too seriously...as soon as some 'adult' hears a kids voice on mic they star dissing him and mostly the kids dont reply and then on forums people complain bu bu teh bad kids trash tlak....marketplace is well done....everything easy to find and has 1000s of contents....yeah paying for pictures is lame but nobody is forcing you to buy them. XBLM has good amount of demos and game trailers.

now onto XBLA....there is a huge amount of arcade games available and all games are updated and have leaderboards, achievements, enhanced graphics, and in some games, online multiplayer or coop! sweet eh? no onto online gameplay.....alot of games on XBL dont have dedicated servers only BF2 MC had em and now frontline fuels of war will have dedicated servers but other then these 2 games all other run on p2p which means you are basically connecting to someone elses 360....meaning the whole game will be running on some other dudes connection.....now if they dont have really good connection then prepare for laggy games....lag on XBL has ruined many games great games...gears of war is such an awesome game but host always has an advantage....while there is no character lag (like you jumping all over the place lol) there is bullet lag which sucks....you shoot a bullet and it hits the target full 1 second later and hosts shots hit instantly...its pretty lame but i got used to the bullet lag so now i always time my bullets knowing i will have 1 sec delay lol

Now on PSN:

it has friends list like 360, you can send messages and stuff and also do private chat which is cool but friends list just doesnt feel as good as 360s also you cant do all that stuff while playing the game so to send msg, friend request, private chat invite you must first QUIT the game to use them...some games do support invite option but that depends on the game.....online play is awesome....there is no lag 90% of time (ive only played warhawk and resistance online) coz these games have dedicated servers.....but ive heard games like cod4 have same p2p on ps3 like 360.....also ive barely heard someone speak on the mic in both resistance or warhawk....heard some japanese people speak in resistance and then only heard 2 people speak in warhawk once and thats it....i really like how on ps3 it saves all ur sent msgs as well....on 360 you can only see the recieved msgs....gamerprofiles are lame on ps3 compared to 360...all they show is the gamertag, little motto, language and the game the person is playing now...thats it...now on to PS Store (PS Marketplace) its a joke seriously...its just a website (i even got red X's on the pics once lololol) with very few contents....it has some gamer pics and themes which are free so its good, some demos are also available....though it takes long for them to release stuff on UK marketplace....DMC4 demo was released a whole week after 360 dmc4 demo in uk so that sucks....also the download speed of demos is slow...im using wireless connection on my ps3 and that might be the reason but they download way slower then xbox 360 demos....also tehres barely any arcade games available on ps store

so in my opinion XBL is way better then PSN coz of the ease of using it, the contents on marketplace, XBLA, easy access to some features

The only thing missing from PSN is a menu bar to contact friends during games. Overall they both have pluses and minuses and its too subjective to describe at this time of day.... IMO PSN is better service and if HOME actually helps people be better linked whilst gaming then I'd say it would be better than Xbox Live but until then enjoy it while it lasts lemms.

Xbox Live is way better then PSN, and thats why it costs money, you have to try both to see that. And sure MS charges for everything, but so does the PS3 for extra content.

Yes Xbox live has lots of great features, but i believe you should not pay for online, unless its a mmorpg, and thing like in game messaging etc are not worth a subscription IMO. There are indeed lots of idiots but idiots exist in all forms of life, and are easily muted ftw. (so up yours anyone who calls me **** again!!)

Actually anyone who shouts "Pwned" at me should meet me on CS, and i will happily rofl over your freshly Deagled corpse!!

I'll never understand why you guys have so many problems with people being jerks online. I guess since I've had the service for so long hitting the mute button is second nature and having to even do that is rare for me since my friends list is pretty extensive and there is always 10 to 20 guys on there that I either know in RL or I have played piles of games with.

You want to act like this is some kind of big deal when the cursing as easy to fix as clicking a button.

What was impossible for me to fix and completely discouraged me from playing Warhawk was the people in guilds(or whatever you call them in a shooter) putting guys on my team and team killing us all so that the other guys in the guild could capture all the spawn points and rack up easy wins.

After that started it was impossible to get into a game other than dogfighting and have any fun and there was at the time no way to even report people for doing it.

So say what you will about jerks on XBL at least I never completely gave up on a game because of the community like I did in Warhawk.

dragon_master11

I agree with your 9/10 for LIVE, but I wouldn't give PSN an 8. An 8 is FAR too generous based solely on the "FREE" factor. I would at this point give it a 6. However in your review you fail to mention how much MORE LIVE rocks once you acquire friends on your list and realize you can cross chat through games or movies AND see EXACTLY what they are doing at all times. Not only that, you can receive messages and view them WHILE you play games! ALL of which you can NOT do on PSN. So for that the grade for LIVE should raise to a 9.5

Also, yes there are those idiots who spew crap form their mouths in games on LIVE (Since everyone has a FREE headset as opposed to buying a 40 dollar one and can talk) at the same time there a quite a few decent gamers who you can have chats with and even have some REALLY funny convos with which makes the games more fun. For those who talk to much trash or are plain stupid MUTE them (Which you CAN NOT do on PSN, but why would you have to anyway since 90 percent of them don't speak thus creating the illusion of playing a game against bots ruining the online interaction factor associated with console networking) and go about your business :)

i own both the ps3 and 360 and live is 100 times better than the ps3.See how easy that was without all the stupid bs comedic fanboy crap.loudharley

Agreed. 100 times. And that was proven FACT yesterday as I turned my PS3 on for the first time in about three weeks and gave it a go with a few buddies. It was a mess. First I couldn't tell what ANY of htem were doing other then playing a game. Lord knows those TEENY WEENY blue dots represent them as being "online" are sufficient enough. I sent them some messages to see what was up and had to wait for a response cause you apparently can't receive messages while playing a game. After about 15 minutes of no response I got bored and booted up Ratchet & Clank and played for about an hour (My LONGEST PS3 play session yet!) When I was done I had to check my inbox and realized my friends had been messaging me the whole time and now were offline! Disgusted I turned my Xbox 360 to see about 20 of my friends online (Which I was made aware of as SOON as I logged on without having to check it myself 20 friends online now it said) I quickly joined an already in session of CoD4 and proceeded to make fun of noobs with my buddies all the while receiving invites for other games from my other friends. :)

I can't comment on Xbox live but all I have to say is that I can play all my games on PSN with no problems. No lag.

Sometimes you can meet some idiots on it though. Like last time I played against a kid 1-on-1 and he said he wants to show me something. So I told him ok and followed him. Than he tells me to stand there and look...I do and then he kills me (got owned :D ) and starts cursing like no tomorrow. Judging by his voice he could be like 8-11 years old. So than I beat his ass and told him to tell his dad not to let the kid play on his PS3 anymore because he's an embarrassment. :D

Other than that PSN is fine. I can play my games online and that's enough for me.

Paddy345

Then you are a complete fanboy, PSN is lag free, playing online for free with no lag is great, only thing live has over psn is features but i just wanna play online for free and buy content seperately, in live you have to pay to play and then pay more for content, noone is more gullible than you people

First of all that's total BS. I get lag all the time when I play Burnout Paradise on PSN.

 at the swearing..

Agreed, Live is better, for sure, but you have to pay for a lot of things on there.. I genuinely don't think our money goes to improving Live one bit.. Do you think MS need our 50 a year with the amount they already have? They are leaps and bounds ahead of PSN because of experience, this and last gen.. If MS weren't so money hungry the whole time then there would be no doubts as to which was best overall, there would be no comparison.. Live is better, just paying for it is unecessary..

PSN just has to be given more time I think, Sony have had nowhere near as much experience with online as MS have, so they are going to be behind.. Home does look promising though.. I think from a strategic point, Sony are in a better position in SOME (NB SOME) aspects, in that if they do manage to get their online service on a par with Live, then Sony will win.. And yes i said IF they manage to, which WON'T be easy.. Before you fanboys start flaming, I say Sony will win because their service is FREE, MS's isn't. Get it?

Well I only played online with PSN once and there wasn't lag, but for some reason PSN LOVES to boot me offline ALL the time. Go figure!

First of all that's total BS. I get lag all the time when I play Burnout Paradise on PSN.

That's not BS. It must be your connection. I have been playing Burnout Paradise on the PS3 a lot lately and I have hardly experienced any lag....and when I have it wasn't enough to take anything away from playing it online. You barely could notice it.

Warhawk is an online-only title for the PS3 which you can play ONLINE with no problem. Barely any lag.

But anyway, I find it funny that the main thing about ONLINE gaming is, is playing with other people. It's not "being able to text other people while you are playing online." That's not it. It's being able to play others and that is what PSN allows people to do right now and to be honest, when it comes to consoles, I never really cared for online and I probably never would have tried it out if Sony charged for online, but going back to my main point, things like messaging, being able to read text messages is not something that is the most important part in playing online and the PS3 will get that later and it will be free. It is also free on the 360, isn't it part of the CONSOLE OS and not Live? The console has the ability to do it or Silver members can't read text messages in-game? Is that right? I doubt that.....so....if that feature, that live has over PSN, is also available to Silver members, how is that exactly an advantage Live has over PSN when Live doesn't even use dedicated servers for most of the games you can play using it? That feature is part of the 360 Dashboard, has nothing to do with Live, so you can't use that as an advantage that Live has, maybe the console, but not Live. The same applies to being able to get invites across games, that's a console feature. Part of the console experience....not Live. Live you have to pay for to enjoy....the only thing is there is no purpose to getting invited when you are not paying......in other words those features will be available on the PS3 with a firmware upgrade....it's only a temporary advantage, an advantage that should go to the console itself, not the service.

So, please, tell me.....how exactly is LIVE better than PSN? If were to get a 360 again, would I be able to play ONLINE out of the box?

Nope. That's what matters the most, being able to play others and no matter how you put it, you can't do that on Live unless you pay. You just can't.

Not to mention taking away features that were available to silver members for free and putting a time-limit on it and adding it to Gold isn't exactly a "good" benefit that Gold members get.

I don't really get this "too many jerks and little kids on Live" argument. I play Team Fortress 2 and Call of Duty 4 a lot and I almost never get a room filled with these kinds of people. I find it really easy to find a room without these people. Here are some other ideas, host your own room on games you can and boot those kinds of people. For games you can't host and boot (Halo 3), mute the guys. They even made it easier to mute people in that game. Also, play with friends on your team. This makes it so you can listen to people you like and know, while having an even better time with your friends and being able to come up with a strategy to beat the other team.
