 at the swearing..

Agreed, Live is better, for sure, but you have to pay for a lot of things on there.. I genuinely don't think our money goes to improving Live one bit.. Do you think MS need our 50 a year with the amount they already have? They are leaps and bounds ahead of PSN because of experience, this and last gen.. If MS weren't so money hungry the whole time then there would be no doubts as to which was best overall, there would be no comparison.. Live is better, just paying for it is unecessary..

PSN just has to be given more time I think, Sony have had nowhere near as much experience with online as MS have, so they are going to be behind.. Home does look promising though.. I think from a strategic point, Sony are in a better position in SOME (NB SOME) aspects, in that if they do manage to get their online service on a par with Live, then Sony will win.. And yes i said IF they manage to, which WON'T be easy.. Before you fanboys start flaming, I say Sony will win because their service is FREE, MS's isn't. Get it?

GnR-SLaSh

I think that entire paragraph is pretty naive. One of the important things that XBL has that PSN doesn't have is a solid community base. There are people within MS that you can immediately identify as XBL personnel. There is a sense of there are people working to make XBL better instead of a faceless website with a connection to online gaming. Aside from that there is a solid XBL update schedule. You know for sure that 4 times a year, the system will be updated. In the 2 plus years XBL 2.0 has been available they haven't broken that.

Of course PSN being free is better, but people saying XBL is a ripoff and you get nothing for your money is a bit dramatic..And there are a lot of things you have to pay for on PSN also. Lets not get this all twisted. Paying for extra bowlers in that bowling game on PSN is ridiculous...

Then you are a complete fanboy, PSN is lag free, playing online for free with no lag is great, only thing live has over psn is features but i just wanna play online for free and buy content seperately, in live you have to pay to play and then pay more for content, noone is more gullible than you people

First of all that's total BS. I get lag all the time when I play Burnout Paradise on PSN.

That's not BS. It must be your connection. I have been playing Burnout Paradise on the PS3 a lot lately and I have hardly experienced any lag....and when I have it wasn't enough to take anything away from playing it online. You barely could notice it.

Warhawk is an online-only title for the PS3 which you can play ONLINE with no problem. Barely any lag.

But anyway, I find it funny that the main thing about ONLINE gaming is, is playing with other people. It's not "being able to text other people while you are playing online." That's not it. It's being able to play others and that is what PSN allows people to do right now and to be honest, when it comes to consoles, I never really cared for online and I probably never would have tried it out if Sony charged for online, but going back to my main point, things like messaging, being able to read text messages is not something that is the most important part in playing online and the PS3 will get that later and it will be free. It is also free on the 360, isn't it part of the CONSOLE OS and not Live? The console has the ability to do it or Silver members can't read text messages in-game? Is that right? I doubt that.....so....if that feature, that live has over PSN, is also available to Silver members, how is that exactly an advantage Live has over PSN when Live doesn't even use dedicated servers for most of the games you can play using it? That feature is part of the 360 Dashboard, has nothing to do with Live, so you can't use that as an advantage that Live has, maybe the console, but not Live. The same applies to being able to get invites across games, that's a console feature. Part of the console experience....not Live. Live you have to pay for to enjoy....the only thing is there is no purpose to getting invited when you are not paying......in other words those features will be available on the PS3 with a firmware upgrade....it's only a temporary advantage, an advantage that should go to the console itself, not the service.

So, please, tell me.....how exactly is LIVE better than PSN? If were to get a 360 again, would I be able to play ONLINE out of the box?

Nope. That's what matters the most, being able to play others and no matter how you put it, you can't do that on Live unless you pay. You just can't.

Not to mention taking away features that were available to silver members for free and putting a time-limit on it and adding it to Gold isn't exactly a "good" benefit that Gold members get.

Cry and try to downplay the features associated with LIVE all you want. Fact is PSN is a joke! Free or not.

In fact I'm GLAD you Sony fans who support PSN don't pay for it cause then you would TRULY be getting ripped off. Hell Sony knows better then to charge for that crap.

Disagree. PSN is free yes, but GOD do I hate it and refuse to play on a halfassed online structure such as PSN. Free is NOT an alternate definition of good.

First of all, I have a 20 megabit fiber connection.

Secondly, since when has the term "lag free" meant just a little bit of lag or barely any lag? So BS it is.

Well I decided to find out which multiplayer service is better. I decided to start with Xbox live. I had the headset and microphone. I bought a 1 month xbox live gold card because Microsoft loves money. So I wanted to download some gamerpics and themes, but that also costs money. So i went to download some Halo 3 maps, but that costs even more money. Man I thought to myself, MS LOOVVES charging for everything. Soon they will charge us for breathing.

So I put in Gears in my 360. I start up some ranked matches. "Hello friends" I say. "I am looking forward to playing with you guys and having a great time." At that point this guy says to me: "Yo Mama ishh shoo fats, that Is throws an Ipod at hesh and my PS2 SHHHHNAPPPED in half"

I was like ok, I think I'll try a different Game. So I put in the popular Halo 3 In my 360. Started up matchmaking system. "Hello fellow Gamers" I say. "I hope we can have a nice friendly match"...Silence... "NOOOB!! HEY EVERYBODY LOOK AT THIS NOOB!!" some guy yells. Was eveyone like this on Xbox live?

No more Mr. Nice guy.

I pick up my headset and start firing all these swear words at the guy. Every swear word from A-Z i threw at him. Man that felt good. But now I got a bad rep. Geez, now I can see why everyone is like this on Xbox live. I call Microsoft up and start swearing at them for no reason. Made me feel better.

Enough with live, lets get down to PSN.

First it was free, and that was really great. I liked not having to pay for stuff.

Then I realised why it was free. Do you want to know why its free? Because its crap. Everything about it sems inferior compared to Live.

I called up sony and told them to be more like Microsoft. Then I started swearing at them for no reason . Made me feel better.

I then went back to Xbox live and started swearing at everyone I met. Made me feel better.

Overall:

Xbox Live: Great Online survice, too bad MS charges you for every fart. Also filled with jerks like me. 9/10

PSN: Its free, which is great. Just not as good as Xbox Live. 8/10.

dragon_master11

What about the PSN community? What are your thoughts?

You didn't say a word about your experience with other PSN users.

Please elaborate more or this comparison isn't fair. You failed to mention that PS3 themes and wallpapers are free, that there's simply no lag in most of multiplayer games, and a buch of other stuff.

have a ps3 and 360 and I play games online on the ps3. I dont think that live is good enough to make me pay £30 a year for it. I would rather buy another game for my ps3 to play online instead.

PSN does not have much lag. It is as good as live in that respect, in some cases better. You have a friends list, chat unction, I think you can do webcam. You have an internet browser, and all the bonuses that come with that. Plus themes are free, unlike with greedy MS.

There is nothing extra live does thatis worth £30 a year. Why should I have to pay extra to play the 60% of a game I just paid for. I did not pay for COD4 to play less than half a game. I want the full thing.

Is like everything else on the 360, evrything is an extra. Wireless, online, HDD, HD player. The ps3 is WAAAAY cheaper. I need wireless, online play andI want to watch HD movies. I want one box to be able to do it, not a set of boxes in a heap, each with its own function.

But whilst I think live has more anti social behaviour. PN has it as well. I just played COD4 online and in some games people dont seem to be able to stop swearing for 5 seconds, its rare but annoying. plus some people think its good to play music on the background. Or play annoying sounds. Once I even had some idiot pla a track which had baby sounds, you could tell it as a track as it kept repeating, but it was annoying.

XBL is better, but no where near eough to warrant £30 a year. so PSN is better overall.

You seem to completely miss the point. My comments were responses to previous posts.

1. "PSN is lag free". I call BS on this and you tell me it's barely noticeable. Like I said, "Lag free" means NO LAG AT ALL. You can't have it both ways. Not only that but I'm experiencing lag on a fiber connection.

2. I know about the Oblivion Horse Armor. But you seem to overlook the fact that the post I was responding to said "You have to pay for a lot of stuff on XBL" I was mearly pointing out that developers with content on PSN can and will be just as ridiculous and greedy. See Motorstorm.

Yeah I've tried them both my buddy has all three and I have xbl myself but psn is garbage yeah its free but its like when you go to the dollar store and buy their brand of detergent, its crap compared to the major brand, you gotta use twice the amount to get the same job done, goofy comparison but you get the drift

psn is like the off brand

xbl is like the major brand

you get what you pay for

You really didn't address anything I said.....and I never downplayed any feature. Those features are part of the console, not the Live service itself. Silver members can read/write text messages in-game, is that not correct? If so, how is that an advantage Live has over PSN instead of an advantage that 360 currently has over PS3?

If you don't know, some games on the PS3 allow you to do that already. It's just not part of the system yetand when it is, what advantage will Live have over PSN? The ability to "charge" people so they can unlock their "Paid Microsoft Money" achievement?

The service isn't crap. You're actually downplaying PSN here. I can get on Warhawk right now and join a game and play with other people.....and that's really what matters when it comes down to it.

sainraja

SILVER membership/GOLD membership it's the same (Not counting the ability to play games online) You say that cross messaging and such are NOT apart of LIVE yet they are. You MUST be a member of LIVE either SILVER or GOLD to use these features. You downplayed them as if they bring NOTHING integral to on online community which is false. I did not downplay PSN I called it how I see it and after having time with both services it's clear to me which is the superior. If LIVE charges me for their service I'll GLADLY pay it since PSN is junk in comparison. I can't really define it precisely but when I turn the PS3 on and root around the PSN network and it's interface I feel like I'm missing something and I'm simply unhappy with it and feel it's not worth the price (YES the FREE price) it's complete crap.

Then you are a complete fanboy, PSN is lag free, playing online for free with no lag is great, only thing live has over psn is features but i just wanna play online for free and buy content seperately, in live you have to pay to play and then pay more for content, noone is more gullible than you people

First of all that's total BS. I get lag all the time when I play Burnout Paradise on PSN.

then ur connection sucks.

Funny review, but you should have waited to do it after Sony launches HOME. Then the Ps3 online experience will be a lot more fun.

Well I don't own a PS3 yet (*sniff*) but I do own a 360. The only two things I don't like are MS Points and Achievements; the former is rape to my wallet and the latter gives no 'real' reward for accomplishing them. What I like the most are the demos and the online play, I haven't run into any kids with potty mouths yet thankfully.

That actually wasnt Fanboyish like i thought it would be. Goodonya. I would rate Live 9 and PSn 8 as well. PSn isnt as robust as live (yet) but its still free.

What exactly makes it half-assed? care to highlight?

sainraja

Sure. :)

Ok first off for some odd reason it's the ONLY connection in my house (TWO PC's, Xbox 360, and a Wii) that boots me out of hte service every single time I turn the PS3 on.

Next I have to specifically search my firends list to see who's on as opposed of being told who is on or at least how many friends are on as soon as I log in. Upon checking my PSN friends list I get the BARE BONES treatment of information. Their gamertag, avatar, what game they are playing and their brief little bio, whereas with LIVE I can see all of the above as well as EXACTLY what they are up to in each game. Like Madden 1st quarter 10-7, or Rockband playing World tour mode on Enter Sandman. I can also view ALL the games they played, what achievements they got in each game, the LAST time they logged on (and game they played) and their friends list as well in case I want to add someone thy know too.

Moving on. Cross game chatting, game invites, ability to read and send messages WITHOUT exiting your current session and again PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY TALK AND COMMUNICATE! What's the point of having an online community if no one interacts with you? Sure YOU may have found a few people in Warhawk or R:FoM to link up with and have chat sessions but there's PLENTY others who did NOT opt to buy a headset thus creating the appearance of playing against bots.

What about the PSN community? What are your thoughts?

You didn't say a word about your experience with other PSN users.

Please elaborate more or this comparison isn't fair. You failed to mention that PS3 themes and wallpapers are free, that there's simply no lag in most of multiplayer games, and a buch of other stuff.

lusitanogamer

LOL. that's because there wasn't any to interact with! As stated before MOST do not chat or play as a team so how can you elaborate on an experience that's similiar to playing the AI?

OK! PSN free with 1000s of free themes downloadable via PS browser 8/10 later in 08 will be 10/10. PS3 reliability 10/10. PS3 hardware capabilities; BR, online browser, rechargeable controllers, WiFi ready etc 10/10. Games out for PS3 9/10 later in 08 will be 10/10.

Overall 9/10 later in 08 will be 10/10

Ok! xlive service 10/10 but pay for everything. 360 reliability 4/10. 360 hardware capabilities 7/10. Games out for 360 10/10.

overall 7.5/10 later in 08 will still be 7.5/10

live is LAGGY and has a bad community, other than that it's fine. i would give it an 8.

psn is not laggy and it can't have a bad community because mic's don't come standard. i give it an 8.5 because while it has gimped functionality, it hasn't been around as long as live.

If there is lag, it's barely noticeable.....personally, I haven't lagged at all in any Warhawk game I have been in or Burnout Paradise for that matter......I said barely because nothing is lag free 100%. Live isn't either....but you can criticize Live since people are PAYING for it.

"Paying for extra bowlers in that bowling game on PSN is ridiculous"...

And so is paying for horse armor......in Oblivion. That feature isn't exclusive to the PS3. =P

Microsoft charges for online and does the same thing while Sony doesn't charge for online and hopes to make money through other means WHICH are optional. No one asked you buy those "extra" bowlers. You don't need them to play the game. You need to pay Microsoft money to play online. There is no other way around it....Gold members should perhaps get a discount or get those for free.

heretrix

But Motorstorm developers have also provided cars for free. It's a first party game, those downloadable packs are optional downloads for users and provide Sony with some money....but you know the best part? You don't need to download those to PLAY with others. They have also went out of their way to fix the game even further without the reviews changing. They were aware of that but they improved the online experience WITHOUT any charge to us.

Cross game chatting, game invites, ability to read and send messages WITHOUT exiting your current session and again

But you are missing the point. You are not paying for those features SINCE they are part of the system. Not the service. That's an advantage the 360 console has over the PS3 console at the moment which will change. 360 users pay to play others......and you know what matters the most in ONLINE gaming? It's playing with other people.

And I don't know what games you join but every game I have been in of Warhawk, Call of Duty 4 or Burnout, there are people talking.

The simple truth is, you're only here to talk down the PS3's online service. My purpose here isn't to say Live is a bad service. Nor am I saying it is more laggier. I am simply saying that PS3's online service, where you can play others, works just as good if not better. You can play other people online.....with little to no lag. You're just here to hate on it.....and no matter what anyone says you will keep on insisting that it sucks.

As far as the system letting you know when your friends sign on, check your system settings.

I join games in COD4 on PS3 faster than I do on the 360 and there is a little less lag in my experience. It's really not noticeable if you only have one version of the game though. This is the only online game I can really compare.

It is true that there are a bunch of immature mic users on the 360 and a lot less mic users on the PS3 but if you end up joining a clan or guild for either system, you'll have a lot more intelligent convos and a better multiplayer gaming experience.

Since I never use the 360 marketplace or the PS3 store except for demoes, they do not affect me in any way. From what I've seen though, the 360 marketplace is a lot easier to manage.

Xbox live you have to pay for PSN you don't. Simple facts.

Most of the online friends stuff can be done while in-game for the 360 and PS3 you have to do it all in the XMB screen. I heard Sony is trying to do in-game friends stuff too, but it isn't out yet so 360 wins here.

Sony is releasing home which is supposed to be a free and optional download. Anything optional and free is always good so I don't understand why people are bashing it.

There are usually enough players online in any game I play online for a full match, so player count doesn't really matter either.

Overall, I'd say right now that the 360 is a tad bit better in the online department.

First,PS3 reliabilty is not 10/10 many people have bad PS3s unless NO one had a bad one,it cant be 10/10,if you look on the PS3 forums you will discover that the newer models have a high failure rate almost mathvhin the first batch of Xbox360s

Second,HOME,Lol........will make PSN 10/10 because, all the emos of PSN can meet up in some room and listen to bad music whilst sharing selfharm tips

ok wow i clam this thread lame and should be locked anyway i used to own a 360 and i own a ps3 what i noticed was 360 was in better ways of user friendly where as in the ps3 you would have to be in the game to connect with friends in games on the 360 you could be doing anything and chat with your friends check stats and well lets face it GeoW anyway i got rid of my 360 so i could fix a gamen PC and sort of miss my 360 overall 360 is better with its live but Psn has got good parts and very bad parts to it as well yeah free but this also means cheap the psn has a lot of tuneing up to be done and who knows maybe the next update it will just be a whole new concept but as for now psn trails behind Live in tons of ways i have ran into lil boys that sound like teen girls having a pillow fight while swearing their heads off in Geow and a few other games (not halo i hate halo) and yeah ive run across lil boys that act just the same on counterstrike Crysis online and Fear, as well as the Psn in cod4 GH3 and so on
