I had 2 360s and may people i know went through 3-5. Also a bunch just bought slims so they wont have to worry about the rrod. I would say atleast 20 million 360 sales are rrod rebuy related. Which is why there are only about 12 million xbl accounts

Yes they will be inflated, but so will PS3 sales because of YLOD (admittedly, not as much, but there is no way to measure that, so just ignore both)

Some proof would be nice.

And what about the ps3?The hardware faults weren't as serious as the 360's,but it still had that YLOD.

20 million? You do realize it sold a total of about 57 million to date, right? Nah, no 20 million.

I have no idea because actually didnt a lot of people end up getting refurb units instead of new ones? Retail trackers may not track that either since they dont actually go through retail distribution. The biggest inflate to 360 sales is the first year head start that everyone wants to ignore. Its first year wasnt very good compared to later years, but its still 5-6 million in sales. Plus they were able to get it out of the way and hit their stride by the time PS3 launched and went through its first year struggles.

With 360 RROD Microsoft replace it for free regardless of whether it's in warranty or not and they've done so for years. With PS3 YLOD they charge you ALOT. Hence why I decided to just rebuy instead of pay for Sony to replace it. For that reason I'd say rebuys are just as prevalent on PS3 as 360, despite the YLOD being less frequent than RROD.

What abotu the people who broguht PS3 slims to avoid the lsaer issue? See what I did there?

There've beena few3rd party groups who've crunched the numbers before and the results I've seen is that the 360 still had the lead in active hardware. There was only like a 3-4 million difference in total 360's purchasedand those currently in use. Andthat was a while after the launch of the slim so quite a few of those were likely slimpurchases as well.

Onething to remember is that the rrod, as bad and inescusible as it was, wasexaggerated a lot by fanboyshere on the interwebs. I remember in 2008reading postsfrom peoplesaying that they, or a friend, hadbought like4 or 5360's already because they all red ringed, despite the fact thatMS was giving out free replacements untilsometime in2009 (I believe) for defective systemsand still gave out replacements after that, you just had to pay s&h.

I'd wager that the 360 either still has a slight lead or is just slightly behind atm.

Zophar87

That's the part cows don't want to admit. I too bought my PS3 soley for Blu-ray/DVD use. PS3 software sales prove this to be a fact but some people continue to ignore it.

As far as sales being inflated because RROD? I disagree completley. If people are rebuying the product after multiple failures, is must be a pretty damn good product.

My original 360 crapped out on my three times and it was fixed each time by Microsoft for free.

That doesn't make sense. Whether or not it was bought as a Blu-Ray player, it was still bought. It wasn't re-bought to replace a malfunctioned piece.

The numbers aren't even close to being inflated. If that were the case then at least half of the PS2 sales are rebuys because of the disc read errors that system was plagued with

RROD's were a pain in the butt but I give Microsoft credit for one thing: They allowed me to replace my broken Xboxs for FREE each time. I'm on my 3rd 360 now (had it for two years so I think this one is a keeper, fingers crossed). So I doubt they got any "rebuys" from RRODs, if anything any rebuys would be from people who got RROD within the last year and wanted to get the new slim Xbox instead of getting a free refurbished one.

Also I would guess RRODs helped Sony as well as many who got RROD may have said **** it and went and bought a PS3. So yeah I am pissed Microsoft released a broken product but at least they gave great support in trying to fix the problem. With my most recent 360 I can tell the interior of it was gutted and the new motherboard or whatever was placed in it because it runs much cooler/ quieter than my first two 360s.

Jan. 07 ps3, yet to fail. Launch elite failed on the spot and promptly returned to the store to replace that. That one failed couple of weeks ago with little usage.

Ill admit im partial to playstation, but I speak from my personal experience not some numbers out of my behind.

kozzy1234

MS fix it because their failure rate is so insanely high that they are forced by law to extend the guaranties because otherwise they would need to remove the console off the market and lose even more money. This is not something MS's doing out of pity, in fact, they knew about the issues since the beginning and they tried to deny it.

There are 12 million GOLD accounts. Not XBL accounts. What about Sony's YLOD? The PS3's that had the Blu-ray laser problem? The ones that were cut from shelves when the hack occured? What about that update error? How about the fact that when a Sony console breaks you got to buy it again but if a 360 breaks you warranty gets you a new one for FREE unless you are and idiot and went to get a new one? What abotu the people who broguht PS3 slims to avoid the lsaer issue? See what I did there?

I had to buy a new 360... it's true. But I had to buy 2 new PS3s. Sorry, but in my experiences, neither HD console has been all that reliable.

Damn i never thought i would see rrod and ylod as argument fodder this deep into the generation, why the resurgence of these issues? What's next paying for live discussion or low vid ram on ps3 or maybe last gen wii graphics?

That doesn't make sense. Whether or not it was bought as a Blu-Ray player, it was still bought. It wasn't re-bought to replace a malfunctioned piece.lowkey254

It doesn't? Replacing a malfunctioned console is still buying another console. There is no guarantee that the PS3 was even used for anything other than being a Blu-Ray player.

Anyway, you clearly missed my second point, being that nobody knows what they're purchased for, so what's the point in arguing it? The 360 had a 3-year warranty, so people bought 360's to replace RROD units during the 3-year period?

[QUOTE="kuraimen"][QUOTE="Oil_rope_bombs"] Read the link by lowkey254. Already been said multiple times that 360 failure rate is above 40% while Ps3 failure rate is less than 5%CaseyWegner

Actually the link says 54% for 360 and 10% for PS3.

both of which are ridiculously high.

Yep but not surprising considering the quality of electronic products in this day and age. Almost everything releases in a beta stage.
