I actually prefer PC over consoles, and this thread is littered with insecure hermits defending the PC acting like I'm bashing on it. Just goes to show that hermits are pretty pathetic. Good thing I'm a manticore, I'd hate to be considered a hermit LOL!

No, this thread is filled with you spewing nonsense, you not answering any of our questions, you missing the point and trying to avoid a question, and now you insulting us for no reason. Now that's just blatant flaming and I'm going to stop posting in this thread.

How difficult do people think it is to play a game on the PC?

I switch on my PC and wait for it to boot (takes about a minute - I don't have an SSD or it would be quicker)

Double click the icon, on my desktop, for the game I want to play, most games take about 10 - 20 seconds to get to the main menu.

Load my save game, again takes a few seconds to load

Enjoy playing the game.

So that's about as difficult as a pressing the power button and clicking the left mouse button a few times, with less than 2 minutes waiting in between.

If i want to play somthing else, I just exit the game and double click the icon of the other game I want to play.

Nothing difficult or complicated about it.

People blow issues out of proportion. There are issues with certain games, naturally, due to the open nature of the system. Still, I have very few issues with my games. In fact, I can't remember the last I had an issue with :?

Console software is just as cheap or cheaper than Steam, even when Steam is having a sale. I often get brand new, sealed console games for anywhere from $5 to $15 bucks. Not bargain bin stuff, critically acclaimed games that sell for $60 bucks almost everywhere you go.arkephonic

That's not an argument. That's a fact, a way of life, reality, whatever you wanna call it. I have a pretty decent sized game collection, and I got many of my retail console games for as cheap or cheaper than steam offers them at summer and winter sales. That said, Steam's summer sale this year sucked.

Where?

You stated that you regularly buy new releases at $5-$15. Where would you do that? Other than trading in older games for that price.

Also, you may want to prove you bought them for that price, otherwise the statement falls flat.

CheapAssGamer, Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Craigslist are pretty much what I alternate between.

I've literally bought around 100 or so console games for way cheaper than I should have gotten them for.

Here are just some examples, just from 2012. All brand new, sealed, original factory V shape seal.

Kingdoms of Amalur $5 bucks for both the PS3 and PC versions.

Dragon's Dogma for 360 $15 bucks

The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition for 360 $10 bucks

Starhawk $15

Resident Evil Revelations $20

SSX on PS3 for $10

SoulCalibur V on PS3 for $10

Street Fighter X Tekken on PS3 for $15

Twisted Metal for $20

And actually a lot more games. I'm not going to list them all, I'd be here all day.

BTW, I don't give a damn if people believe me or not about this. What do I have to gain or lose if people think I pay full price for those games or I don't? It's not that big of a deal. It's just that everytime my friends talk about how they get cheap games on Steam, it seems like every single time I got the same exact game for cheaper at retail.

You don't have to care. Unfortunately, without proving anything, nobody has any obligation to take you seriously. Acting like a child and saying "na na na na na" doesn't help, either.

I wish I could go through university just saying "Well, it totally happened, and this is why... Don't believe me? I don't care." See how silly it sounds?

Console games are as cheap or cheaper than Steam. That's a fact? All of them? All the time?

If you find someone on Craigslist selling a game dirt cheap, that does not make your statement true. If Amazon is having a great limited-time deal, you still have to pay for shipping and wait for it to arrive, and there is absolutely nothing that makes me believe it would be cheaper than on a Steam sale. It might be, but that would be relavitely rare, and still wouldn't include shipping costs. Where is your Fallout 3 GOTY for 5 bucks? Where is your Just Cause 2 for $3.50? Where is your GTAIV + all DLC + Episodes from LC for $7.50? I could go on and on...

You certainly did get great deals for what you got, but not everyone is lucky enough to get great deals on sale like you did. So all in all, Steam is way cheaper, and what you said is just plain wrong.

If someone thinks that PCs are better than (a) console(s), that's subjective. Who are you to tell them what to think? Of course, the opposite is also true. But don't expect people who really attach a lot of importance to a PC's strengths and very little importance to its weaknesses to leave this thread thinking "damn, now I think consoles are better than PCs", so this whole mind blown thing makes very little sense to me.

You may not, but it's pretty well settled that Mac gamers are your fellow PC gamers. This was debated around the release of StarCraft II.

Yeah, he's making stuff up now. You can save with consoles, through renting service and stuff, but when it comes to actually owning games, it's hard to beat the sales on Steam and other DD sites.

Don't blame me cause you guys don't know how to find deals. I've easily bought 100 console games for cheaper than Steam has ever had them on sale for. I'm talking about brand new, relevant, sealed, critically acclaimed games. Not bargain bin crap.

I only buy console games when they are on sale, barring series that I feel deserve the $60 price tag. I hunt on Woot, Ebay, Amazon and often times will simply trade amongst friends for games. Last 360 game I bought besides Reach was Alan Wake for $10 (Never played it though, ironically)

That being said, it's alot more work than finding similar deals on PC.

I do own a Mac, but I also have a PC.

I have an iMac that I can game on, or I can game on a PC with a liquid cooled AMD FX-8150 eight core processor, Radeon HD 7970 with 3gb GDDR5, 16 gigs of DDR3 RAM, 2 terabyte 7200 rpm harddrive, 256mb solid state drive, blu ray drive and burner, hmmm, I wonder which one I game on lolol.

Console Advantages:

  • Price. Up front costs. Consoles are roughly $300 bucks, whereas if you want a top end gaming PC, you're easily spending over $1000 bucks. A top end video card alone costs more than a console, then you have to take into consideration motherboard, disc drives, harddrives, RAM, processor, cooling, power supply, sound card, and if you buy the good stuff, it can get expensive in a hurry.
  • Optimization. This sort of goes hand in hand with price. Consoles are streamlined, everything from their hardware assembly to firmware are completely focused on gaming. If you put the same processor and GPU in a PC and a console, you will get significantly better performance on the console. With the PC, you need to compensate for the fact that you're running so many different processes and dedicating less of your RAM, CPU and GPU to gaming. To do this, you need to get really really nice hardware.
  • Local play. Yeah, you can LAN up on PC, but local play is so much more convenient on consoles. Whether you be playing Madden, split screen racing or shooting, it's just a lot better on console. PC is just that, a personal computer which delivers a personal experience. Your friends can watch, maybe get a turn or 2, but they're not going to be playing with you.
  • Simplicity. You never have to bother with settings on the consoles.

PC Advantages:

  • Hardware. Companies like Intel, Nvidia and AMD are constantly creating new products, better products. You can only experience these on a PC. These companies are the world's leading graphics card manufacturers, and what they have to offer can only be used on a PC. With a console, you have a company deciding what your prebuilt console will contain, and your preferences are irrelevant. Want more RAM? Too bad. Want faster harddrives? Not happening. You get what you get with consoles.
  • Mods. Games like Skyrim are infinitely better with mods.
  • Controller options. Being able to use the 360 controller along with KB/M makes PC the best for controllers.
  • Communication. You see all these silly debates over PSN and Xbox Live. Well guess what, they both suck. On PC, you can just hop on Skype or Ventrillo and talk. You can run any communication app in the background. This is something that PC has always had. On PC, it's not called cross game chat. It doesn't cost $60 bucks a year. It's pretty ridiculous to look at Xbox Live when you look at the PC. Cross Game Chat is a free 10 second download. Plus, having a keyboard on hand in every game makes it so even if people don't have a mic, you can communicate with them.
  • More competitive. Games like StarCraft 2 have the highest skill ceilings out of any game out there. Consoles are very casual in comparison to the PC from a competitive standpoint.

This is the only stuff that I could safe from the OP. Some further editing here and there would make it much better.

Buys brand new console games for less than $10? I think someones either lying or admitting to supporting piracy.

slimjimbadboy

Not pirated, all legitimate retail games. I've never pirated a game in my life.

It's called a joke.

bloodling

I still like to give my opinion, whether or not people say things as a joke. Jokes are sometimes hard to detect, especially when they are not funny.

That's good, because I wouldn't want to make you look like a fool laughing at a lame joke on the computer.

For you guys saying console games are never cheap, just take a look at this week's Best Buy sales. They have sales like this all the time.

All these games brand new / sealed for under $10 bucks.

Rayman Origins

Crysis 2

Driver San Francisco

Tekken Hybrid

Skate 3

Rage

Super Street Fighter IV

Sorcery

Rayman 3D

Dead Rising 2

Dead Space 2

Bulletstorm

Animal Crossing City Folk

Dungeon Siege 3

The Darkness 2

Spirit Camera

Dirt 3

Dragon Quest 9

Wolfenstein

Child of Eden

Tetris Axis

Singularity

And tons more, just look for yourself. This isn't even one of Best Buy's better sales, they get way, way better as we get closer to Christmas. Between Costco, Best Buy, Fred Meyer, Target, Amazon, CheapAssGamer, FatWallet, Craigslist and others, you can always find deals on retail games. There are always physical retail console games cheaper or just as cheap as Steam's offerings, even on their sales. This isn't even a very good Best Buy sale, sometimes games are $5 bucks, good games as well. These games this week aren't even that good.

the thing about pc gaming is that its dying. /thread anyways. i'm a pc gamer at heart and i do feel like its the obvious choice for the best experience for the majority of gamers with the endless options, the freedom, and the overall uniqueness of the communities of each game compared to the console versions, but that doesnt mean consoles are pointless. consoles definitely have a place in the industry and i respect that fact and all of the gamers who choose to play exclusively on consoles. consoles and pc should compliment each other imo, since pc is too different to 'compete' with consoles. pc has something for almost everyone, making it a perfect compliment to any type of console player

I don't have a problem with consoles, hell, I own all of them and a bunch of games for each. I agree that PC gaming is dying, but it is my favorite. Just go to any store. I live in a really tech savy area, and all of the desktop computers are being phased out by tablets, laptops, all in 1 computers and the sort. The days of big beefy desktop gaming rigs are being phased out. It's just the way it is. I just bought a brand new master PC a few weeks ago, and I prefer PC gaming over everything, but I can admit that PC gaming is dying and PC desktops are being phased out entirely.

I haven't seen anyone post that "console games are never cheap". I also doubt that these sales happen as often as you say they do (even though you were very vague about it). Also, that's for US only. Just because you can get good deals doesn't mean everyone can. Although I will admit that people from certain countries have to pay quite a bit more for games on Steam, but they might also pay more for console games. Also, console games on sale obviousy have very limited quantities, unlike Steam where millions of people could buy a certain game on sale. Personally, I'm not very impressed with the games you listed, but that's just my opinion.

They have these sales every single week. There's never a week that goes by where they don't have a sale like this. Different games for each week.

Then why is there a thread about Best Buy having a "huge blowout sale" if it's like that every week?

Because there's 300 games on sale. Usually it's about 100.

No, there's "nearly 200 games and accessories" on sale for this sale. Sometimes I really wonder where you get your numbers from.

I've been shopping at Best Buy for the last couple years. You obviously know nothing about it. They have sales like this every week, I would know. You obviously have no idea. There's literally not a week that goes by without a ton of games being on sale like this.

Since you clearly have no idea what you're talking about, why do you talk about things you know nothing about? If you checked the website weekly like I do and shopped there weekly, you'd know. Clearly you don't. All I see is a moron (you) disagreeing with something that they know nothing about, and you are just really wrong, lol.

Why don't you bookmark that link I posted with the games on sale. Every sunday, it refreshes with a new list of games. Maybe you should educate yourself before you open your mouth.

Not to mention, I don't see Steam having blowout sales every week, do you?

I did not disagree with anything you said in particular, I made some valid points, looked at the information you gave me, saw that it was false and corrected it. There are 190 games/gaming accessories on sale right now. Not 300. You really love making yourself look like a fool, don't you?

Console Advantages:

  • Racing games.

arkephonic

This one is not even close to being an advantage for consoles,at all.

And naming specific games to make extra points for the console side is really dumb, one could make the same thing for the PC as well,so all those are moot.

Also,if you´re naming whole genres on the console side why not do the same for the Pc side(i.e Strategy,MMO´s,Simulations, etc)

You've been smoking something crazy if you think racing games on consoles aren't 100 times better than they are on PC.

racings games ARE better on PCs

you have a greater variety of wheels and peripherals and racing simulators like GTR actually ARE simulators, they're not like GT or Forza with their faux simulation
