That was ten years ago. With how the market looks now, the rate of unfinished and broken games is exponentionally higher. Btw. i'm speaking from my personal extensive experience. The only one profiting from this is Valve, certainly not gamers. Virtually zero effort to put in, making bank with vaporware and the suckers falling for this business model are plenty. As is in the mobile sector.

Better yet are these pro-socialism/anti-capitalist types hyping Valves turbocapitalism, where the rich get richer, the middle class (AA) is gutted and the poor multiply in squalor.

@uninspiredcup: the review was by Tom McShea. the game got 10s everywhere else. By the SW rules back then, only GS reviews counted, not MC. So, technically the game flopped lol. Xbox and Hermits were trolling Sony fans left and right, it was a Sony boys masacre. Sony fanboys had created a petition to fire Tom and unfortunately he got actually fired a few month later. That controversy got the worst out of all us and a poor reviewer paid the price.

Flute man from Sony’s E3 conference was pretty damn funny. 😅

Years and years ago when The Order: 1886 got a 5/10 on GS. I didn't even know the forum existed back then, I'd just read the comment sections. Shit went suitably insane.

We were talking about market share not review scores which is an objective metric. So yes, it does prove everything.

As for quality. PC Gaming again has vastly more high quality games than all consoles. This is not a fight a consolite should try to engage in because no matter what you do. You will end up losing. Just stick to GOTY/scores etc.

And no, that’s not really true that PC gaming has vastly more high quality games than all consoles. And you know that. Does it have more legacy titles than a single system, I guess, but again, no one has time to play hundreds of games. They’re going to play games that matter to them right now, and consoles cover that.

PC objectively have more "high quality" games than any and all consoles on the market purely due to the fact that the games on the platform is not locked to a specific hardware like consoles and it is an open platform. This is not up for interpretation. As you said, you think your opinion = fact.🤣

Who else remembers the massive meltdowns when GTA5 scored 9/10 here? Like oh my God, how many people got mad over that and thought it deserved a 10/10. Gamers are the most miserable creatures on this planet.

In a way, Rockstar fannies are more pathetic than the Twilight Princess crowd from this alone, and the fact that 9/10 is not good enough for people.

PC has more market share than consoles and PC has more high quality games than consoles. Those are facts and not my opinion.

Probably the dumbest example of Gamespot, and gamers in general was Cyberpunk when the huge breasted girl (Kally Mcbeal?) reviewed it she was straight up harassed from dumbasses who were yet to even play the game.

A lot of it was dickheads like the Quartering telling his incel brain-bots what to think.

Turns out, yea. The game was a mess.

8.8 in TP is a great memory. I recall being a sheep back then who was so hyped and ready to camp out for the Wii launch. I was pretty salty but in hindsight Jeff Gerstman gave the correct score. The game simply wasn't innovative at all and is one of the weakest mainline Zelda games. The similar release window Okami was a better Zelda game at the time.

Still, camping out for the Wii launch to get Twilight Princess was 100% worth it. I went with a huge crew of friends to a local best buy. We all brought our DSes and played Mario Kart DS and even got pizza delivered to us in the line. Great night.

Yeah, I remember being pretty shocked about that score myself, lol. But as you said, in hindsight it was a good score. Maybe even a bit generous. Not a bad game at all, but not the masterpiece one was hoping for. I think those trailers did a very good job of hyping me up, and what I got was not what I thought I'd get.

It also got a slightly higher score for GameCube than Wii. Good call, Jeff.

Tsk tsk tsk...Sony made 4B from its services like PSN, Nintendo 2B and MS made 3B alone from Game Pass but didn't separate Live from the whole Games and services so we don't have exact figures but it should also be in the ballpark of 2-3B. Too bad, such things didn't counted for PC like Geforce Now, Stadia etc. Is it good enough or should I make the pie smaller for you by including other asterisks?

Most of us who were here remember it being 8.9 because it was so close to a 9.0. I remember the outrage. That forum, specific to TP, was incredibly busy with speculation, hype, etc. Really great forum.

The outrage was even higher when the other sites started pouring in reviews, and you start seeing 10s. Fun day at the office for Jeff.

Gran Turismo 5s release was peak SW. It was one of the last times Lems actually won something now that I think about it

The Ridge Racer meme was huge here back in the day after one of Sony's E3 showings.

I also remember some sheep with a Charizard-something-something as her username that went on a huge tangent about catfishing everyone, she was really a guy, so on and so forth. This was when GS decided to shut down the forums completely in order to seperate the site from the toxicity. This was also when Reddit was an up and coming platform and most of the OG's moved over to the System Wars subreddit.

GS decided to open the forums back up after backlash and System Wars has been a ghost of its former self ever since.
