What best describes your feelings about the current generation?

For me, this gen has been so packed with games that interest me that I simply haven't the time to play them all, and there are currently 10 games set for release this year that I'm definitely getting and a handful that I'm on the fence about. That's not even including my stack of unfinished games and online modes that I've not given a good enough run.

I love this gen so much, but only wish thatI had more time on my hands. So how is it for everyone else?

At the fact they havn't made a new conker or Timesplitters this gen :x

So many amazing games, but companies still seem hell-bent on milking and killing their franchises, and making stupid choices they know will harm their game.

Too many FPS's.

But great games did come out this gen (UC2 and SMG2 being most loved this gen.)

It's decent, I didn't like it not so long ago but there have been enough good games for it to be decent.

I have been gaming since gaming started and I honestly think there is more diversity of quality content than there has ever been before. This generation I am enjoying everything from big blockbuster exclusives to quirky downloadable games to amazing multiplats and creative indy PC games. There are more games that I want to play than I can afford or even have time to play.

PC is the only thing you should own. Every other system should be decided upon after purchasing a PC.

There's just so many amazing games on the PC. Way WAY more than any consoles are getting.

And don't mention Call of Duty + clones because it's pretty easy to see a ton of variety in FPS games on the PC + a handful of console shooters.

And don't mention JRPGs because the quality moved to handhelds, but it didn't disappear.

And don't mention 3D platformers because.........well, ok you can mention those :(

I've had better gens. MUCH better than this gen. Total disappoint from my POV, with only a handful of enjoyable games.

Miniscule amount of original IPs as well. Seems the news is clogged with [Insert Name Here] 3.

Let me list how we improved over last gen:

1. Awesome online service
2. More multimedia capaiblites
3. Huge graphic boost
4. Gameplay is better in terms of interactivity
5. Rise of DLGs and indie gaming

Worse:

• Huge price tag disencouraging risktaking
• Lack of variety compared to last gen
• Some genres have almost completely died(JRPGs, adventures, platforming, and no, the latest Mario games dont count, they'll always exist)
• Games dumbing down in favor of more monies
• Highest amount of high-profile devs closed in any generation
• More games announced with "first in a trilogy" kind of like Hollywood where they announce two movies in a franchise at once.

If i could pick one word to describe this gen it would be: Cutscene

Im really sick of them.

Well I'm certainly glad that there are all these great games coming out and I feel the industry is growing and striving strong which is always good.

However there are some negatives like DLC in particular, most of it is overpriced and alot of the time it's already on the disc to begin with, it's just locked out.

But we only have ourselves to blame for allowing this, if we didn't buy it/agree to it in the first place then it would never happen....

Love it but i last gen holds a special place in my heart.

Well, Uncharted gets a pass because it's uncreatively awesome. ;)

Not every game needs to be shockingly original. I just want games like, oh, Mister Mosquito to coexist with games like Uncharted. I'm always looking at games from the last couple gens and saying "this could never come out today".

But yes, I agree. Now it's either big budget (which means unoriginal as all f***) or indie, which is stupidly hit and miss. I miss those little gems you'd pick off of the walls on impulse that would turn out to be awesome. Games like that just don't exist anymore.DarkLink77

I miss that feeling as well. Nowadays, it seems like those impulse buys rely more on you being actively oblivious and resisting the urge to look the game up on the net prior to buying.

The last impulse buys I indulged in were Etrian Odyssey 3 a few months back, and Blazblue Calamity Trigger a couple years ago. These two are well-known in their respective circles, but because I cared enough NOT to look them up prior to buying, they turned into gems for me personally. You could argue the internet has made it hard for people to take chances because it only takes ONE person badmouthing the game to spoil dozens, hundreds, even thousands of sales.

Massive diasappointment. Other than a few highlights and the indie scene this gen has been terrible imo and im playing games a fraction of what i used to dom2000

I agree 100%, I hardly play anymore

I like this generation there are many great games and online is awesome. But the things I hate are the Online Pass which is the worst thing ever, DLC because some if it isn't even worth the money and should already be in the game and the greed of the Devs has just gotten ridiculous trying to stop the sale of used games.

i think i'm loving this gen more than last gen and i loved that gen.

there are some great games but lately i think the end of this gen is all about graphics and i have no clue why i dont remember when games were good because of graphics
