What can Sony do not to be percieved as a complete FAILURE this gen?

It's premature to say that PS3 is a failure as it just start peaking. It is true that Sony did failed on their promises. It is true that Sony did fail to deliver. However, PS3 did not fail as a system overall as some have suggested. It is yet to see if PS3 is a failure.

PS3 will be considered a failure as a system if by the end of 2008, it's selling below X360 and Wii overall worldwide. The 2008 is the time for PS3 to compete as their great games are releasing this year. If those great games did not help PS3 beat X360 by end of 2008, then I guess it can be considered a failure like Satrun, Dreamcast, Gamecube. Sure, PS3 is doing well for it's situation, but last place is still last place (worldwide).

PS2 doesn't have a "first year". It launched in Japan in March, the US in October, and then in Europe in late November.

It's not a failure, but it's not really a success either. It's about as successful as the GameCube right now. Sony having to drop their price twice in less then 2 months and then release TWO new SKU's to try to get people to buy their PS3 was an act of deperation. Even the Gamecube didn't do that. The system isn't being supported like the PS2 was and even though they have released a few decent titles (Heavenly Sword, R&C, Uncharted, Resistance: RoM & Warhawk), the majority of their titles are just average or below. Besides having a Blu-Ray player and FREE online gaming, there really isn't anything special about the PS3 right now. A lot of people in Europe bought it mostly because of the price cuts and because of the cheap Blu-Ray player. At least Europeans did buy some games for their PS3. American's haven't bought many PS3 games as well. Games like Uncharted, NFS: Carbon, Fifa 08, etc actually sold better in Europe on the PS3. If it wasn't for the European market the PS3 would be no where near 9 million PS3 sold worldwide. Sony should be bowing down to them.

Anyways, the PS3 still has a chance to be successful, but they need more games. The price will have to drop down again this year and Sony needs to find a way to pull PS2 fanatics from the old-gen system to the new. If M$ gets a few more hit exclusive IP's like they did with Gears of War, things may look bad for the PS3.

So if a failure is defined by anything that's sold less than 120 million units, the whole video game industry minus the PS2 is a failure.

PS3 is not a failure. If it was, Sony would officially stopped PS3 production. (which won't be the case, not by a long shot)

Only most insecure Sheep would say so......after all they got whipped pretty badly for 2 generation in a row, by Sony. And technically they are STILL getting whipped in 3rd Party games. Which explains why some Sheep stand by as owners behind PCs or 360s or even PS3s because bottom line, Wii just can't be a system to be owned alone.

I guess they can regain their market share...
