in terms of money that gamers shell out for services, accessories and so on

for example, are you happy to pay for something like Xbox live in exchange for a good service or you prefer it free?

also, what company out of the three offers more quality hardware and sotware-wise?

consoles have no future, or rather, they do for casualites, but true gamers won't get sucked into this casualization, motion controls and no controller at all crap.

you get "milked" only if you want to.

I'm only disappoint by the fact that the new xbox still scratches the discs, which I find it extremely absurd in 2010

Out of the big three, MS hands down. $100 wi-fi adapter, overpriced HDDs, pay to play online, ripoff DLC trend was started by them, etc.

And that's some kind of lie, the last option. PC gamers might not have to pay lots of money to one single company for their gaming, but they still have to pay so much for hardware upgrades every few years, while console gamers only pay a few hundred to upgrade their hardware about every 5 years (and this gen is looking like it's going to be longer than that). They may not get milked by anyone, but it still ends up being a costly endeavour.

Micro$oft without a shadow of a doubt.

Unlike most people, I don't mind paying for XBL. I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for and its a quality service which is well deserved of my few quid a month.

Accessories, on the other hand, are a different story altogether. My heart breaks when I hear people have shelled out €80 for a Wi-Fi adapter that should have been bog-standard from the beginning. Not including it was a concious decision from M$...I can't think of one accessory thats is worth its face-value, so yeah Microsoft definetely wins this one.

As for who has the better quality hardware/software, I've always thought of Microsoft having the better GUI and Netcode for XBL (them being a software company might help) and Sony having the better hardware in the PS3 i.e. far superior capabilities to the Xbox 360 (Sony being a hardware company). I really think anyone who believes the two consoles are equal in graphical power need a reality check.

Microsoft ofcourse.

Overpriced accessories.

Online gaming fee on p2p games.

Avatar stuff and themes overpriced (most of those things should be free for gold members).

Xbox live gold is ripoff. Case in point PC.

Focusing more on (timed) overpriced exclusive DLC than exclusive games.

Forcing developers to charge for DLC.

Not being funny here and I know its off-topic, but who exactly thinks that Xenos is the better GPU? A crowd of people on a forum who say so doesn't make it true, I'd only accept any professional opinions.

You don't have to upgrade your pc every few years. Why people always think pc suddendly loses all it's gaming abilities after 1 year?

Also pc gamers get milked, one example is blizzard. But far less than console gamers.

Xenos is actually faster than the RSX in terms of vertex processing, but the RSX isn't really complete without the Cell. I'm not really professional - ronvalencia could probably tell you something about it.

Not really Activision only makes games whereas MS also has accesories. Acti may put out wat to many GH game but people buy them so its simple buisness. MS...has accesories that should be included or atleast at a normal price instead all the crap you can buy for 360 is overpriced the best example is ofcourse the hdd tomfoolery.

between the 3 consoles i've easily spent 3-4x more on the PS3

heck i've bought more games off of Steam this year than my PS3 since 2007 and still only spent 1/4 of how much i've spent on PS3 games/controllers/accessories/etc.

i've spent the least on Nintendo

and i tend to use the bargin bin a lot with Microsoft - waiting for discounts on XBL gold or discounts on full games

i think OnLive will rape consumer's wallets the most tho

PCs, no question. You wanna play the latest games? New video card, more RAM, faster processor, bigger power supply, monthly subscription fees (WOW). PC gamers are constantly being raped. They love to brag about how they are true gamers and all that crap, but it is really just an excuse for a willingness to pay an absurd amount of money to play games that are constantly full of bugs and crashing. What an awful experience!!

The only way you could use a GPU for more than 3 years is if you did spend a lot on it. Or if you're willing to play your games with the bare minimum settings while tolerating a poor framerate.

Besides the monthly sub part, I agree with him. Getting into PC gaming can be expensive if you don't already have a decent setup. And don't even bring up that $600 PC crap, those things aren't good for games 2-3 years past the day they are built.

it all depends on WHEN you choose to build your pc. With developers building games having in mind the smallest denominator - consoles - , Pc gamers know that they'll build their rig after the consoles are released and NOT before. I built my rig in 2007, I know that it will last until the end of this gen, which is probablygonna be another 5 years of no additional costs and upgrades for me ;)

I paid around 800$ almost 3 years ago. for what pc offers, with Steam and freedom of choosing the right accessories for you, I can safely say that Pc gaming is cheaper than console's.

An $800 PC from 2007 is gonna run games up to 2015. Sorry, but that just sounds like bull**** to me. Without upgrades, any PC from 2003 (that's about the middle of the last console gen) is gonna have problems with any games from this gen. You might get to run new releases well for another year or two before you start to feel the burn.

My vote would have to go to M$. As much as I enjoy the 360, M$ has seriously insulted gamers this gen by charging ridiculous prices for their add-ons. But ALL three companies to their fair share of "milking" IMHO. For example, why can't I play PS2 games on the PS3 when I can play XB games on the 360 and GC games on the Wii? So for me to enjoy the back catalog of great PS2 software I have to purchase a PS2. :| And with Nintendo I have to purchase two wii-motes and nunchucks just to play two player games and don't get me started on the wii-motion plus. And then you have to purchase acharge kitsince, like 360 controllers, they don't come with internal batteries. Funny how fanboysalways seem to leave those details out when talking about the wii and bashing the 360.

And to the PC argument, yes I do believe the PC is the most expensive venture ingaming. While you can build a PC for$500-600 thatcan run a game like crysis on max (w/40 fps) or so I've been told, I highly doubt a rig built with a budget in mind in 2005 will run crysis with those settings. Butbecause you can do a lot more with PC's I believe the price is warrented.

Other than online (that i agree with) i dont see what accessories you need to play any 360 game on an arcade model since you can use a normal USB drive as a HDD

"untill the end of this generation" So you are saying that the are wrong because something during the middle of last generation is no longer a gaming PC in this generation? They did specifically say until the end of this generation and you know what they made no claims about it lasting into the next gen. And for them most part even if you have to turn settings down your video card will beable to play most games at the same settings as they did when you got them, just because average high quaility textures are now the average quality of low qualirt textures doesn't mean the computer magically stopped playing games. Though all of you people should know cartoon network was the biggest milker they had a subscription and a real cash item mall with fusionfall at one point I believe. When buiding a PC if you want longevity get a good quaility CPU/Motherboard and then you can upgrade your GPU to extrend the life of the PC.(though that doesn't work for everyone especially if they get a major breakthrough in CPU tech) Consoles are just more predictable, the companies making them say they will have xxxx lifespan and aslong as they don't change their mind you are set till the end of that system. If you say PC is the biggest milker blame ATI and NVIDA for constantly improving their products. Though I have to say most "F2P" MMOS with cash shops are potentially the biggest milkers especially the ones were cash items are bassically required to continue on past one point. Though in terms of console hardware has to be either Nintendo or Microsoft. Since microsoft has the most overpriced accories, and the wii bassically never reduced in price eventhough they probably could lower the price on many of the items and still make money. Though the ps3 was based off of the price of blu ray but it probably took too long to get it down to $300. And Nintendo is laughing at MS and Sony because they sold so many more consoles than them this gen and made profit on each one.

Everyone can vote how they want..thats all good. BUT to say one company "milks" more than the another is plain wrong. Its the same with every developer of not only games, but movies, music, ect.

Some seem to milk us of more money then others at times...ie themes, pictures, maps, weapons, online play, horse armor ect ect ect...BUT that goes for all of them.

Microsoft. It's unforgiveable to charge £60.00 just for a wifi adapter when Sony built one into their console. And the HD add on when Sony had blu ray. And a HDD if you bought the basic model even though most games need one. And a charger for your wireless pad.

No other company comes close. I like my Xbox, but its a good job because I've paid through the nose for a console somehow inferior to the PS3.

[QUOTE="Xeros606"] Besides the monthly sub part, I agree with him. Getting into PC gaming can be expensive if you don't already have a decent setup. And don't even bring up that $600 PC crap, those things aren't good for games 2-3 years past the day they are built.Xeros606

it all depends on WHEN you choose to build your pc.

I'm sorry, but my 8800 is fine and my cpu too. I may not max all the games out, but I have zero interest in doing so. Mass Effect 2 is probably the best game released for Pc in 2010 so far and on my almost 3 year old Pc it runs flawlessly. if some games turn out to be crappy lously optimized ports, then it's not my rig's fault. Again, if my vcard does not support dx11 I could not care less. even if my rig was to last another 3 years, that'd be perfectly fine. I always tell people to upgrade when they need to, not when their rig is starting to not max all the games out.

2003 Pc's are gonna have probs with any games from this gen? who said otherwise? did the current gen consoles ger released in 2003? I built mine 2 years after the release of the xbox 360 and I don't think I'm really gonna need to build a new one before the end of this gen. it'd be stupid, considering that you can just wait for the next gen to roll in and then build a new gaming rig accordingly. That's my opinion

Nintendo, but that´s not a bad thing!

Also im impressed with the poll! MS? Really?

PAL360

has nothing to do with hating, its just they overcharge for accessories and make you pay for online

Other than online (that i agree with) i dont see what accessories you need to play any 360 game on an arcade model since you can use a normal USB drive as a HDD

yeah but if you want more gigs of space you need to buy a proprietary hdd and its way overpriced.

I also asked if gamers are happy to pay for something that guarantees a better service, in which case, that'd not be milking. also, accessories are very expensive for each of the three consoles and the ps3 came out with a crazy high price point, so I'm not favoring any of the three.

You don't have to upgrade your pc every few years. Why people always think pc suddendly loses all it's gaming abilities after 1 year?

Also pc gamers get milked, one example is blizzard. But far less than console gamers.

How blizzard?

dude, believe it or not, i got my 360 december 05 with a 20gig hdd and still have 3.5gig free space. That 360 RRoDd last year so i got an arcade and still use the same hard drive.

my point is that you dont need a huge hdd to play 360´s games since there are no mandatory instals. I have like 10 arcade games and usually unistall the demos after play them.

All mmorpg needs to charge fees to keep afloat. Unless he is talking about all those little micro-transactions then yea..at least they don't affect the game at all. Map packs on the other hand....

thats cool if you personally dont need it, but its still an overpriced proprietary accessory.
