From a System Wars point of view, I loved the brutal cut-throat competition. For the first 5 years of the gen, 2005 to 2010, in particular. X360 had it's head start, massive quality library, best controller/online and achievements, tempered by RROD. PS3 was late and expensive, with crap multiplats for years... but goddamn, what an exclusive library it fought back with, plus eventually it improved in other areas. Meanwhile the Wii ("Wii would like to play :D") had an entirely different view and atmosphere, and despite the ultimate failure of motion controls and my many problems with how Nintendo handled it's latter years, for a while there it had oodles of innovation, god-tier 1st party titles and lot's of quirky Japanese 3rd party titles.
From 2011 or so on, PS3 had fixed most of it's problems, X360 abandoned reason for madness (Kinect) and Wii had died, so the gen was less fun then.
This gen is pretty boring here, WiiU failed, XOne was meh, PS4 is awesome. Fine for gamers, boring for System Wars :P Switch livens things up a bit!
