The tales serie is pretty much the only JRPG serie that interest me nowaday, excluding old school JRPG ofc.

This, tales is pretty much the pinnacle, when it comes to jrpg's on consoles

They are awesome, specially now since most modern Wrpgs are gameplay wise shallow as fvck right now . And this whole " Jrpgs suck because they are about always saving the world" argument is dumb as hell. Tell me what do you do in Skyrim? Oh yes you are saving the world from the dragons. Tell me what are you doing in Mass effect? Yep, you are saving the galaxy from the Reapers. What are you doing in Dragons age origins? You guessed it saving the world from the Darkspawn. What are you doing in Oblivion? You guessed it, saving the world from the Daedra. So please stop this bullshit, modern Wrpgs suffer from the same cliche, not to mention that Wrpgs always recycle the same D&D fantasy and classic sci fi cliche lore over and over again. If you truly think that Jrpgs are generic and not Wrpgs then you have obviously started playing games on this generation.
I can't get into them anymore.
I don't know what it is but I haven't enjoyed one in the slightest since Persona 4. I was 19 when that came out and the idea of high school was still pretty fresh so it was a cool idea to set a game in one. I hadn't ever played a game quite like it and haven't since.
But I can't enjoy them anymore. I find the dialogue too poorly written/spoken, and every character always seems like they're screaming every time they get even slightly emotional, and they never get "slightly emotional", they just got from calm to batshit insane whenever things start going south.
Does anyone else feel this way? Is it just me or is the whole genre gotten too stale for other people?
Is it strange that as I get older I enjoy these games less and less, but I can still play Mario and other stuff for "all ages"?
What do you, System Wars aficionado, think of JRPGs?

Play the good ones, like Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, Bravely Default and avoid the overly japaneze ones or garbage like FF13 series
The ones that are like the old JRPGs are still as great as it gets
When done right, they can be amazing. IMO the only JRPGs to have done this in the past 10 years are Xenoblade and DQ VIII (and to a lesser extent, the Last Story). And the last truly great Final Fantasy game is IX (XII sucked, learn to live with it).

Agreed
I liked FF10, but i agree FF9 was the last best
Crono Trigger and FF7,9 are srtill some of the most memorable RPGs history

You know Jrpgs have to be awesome when the best modern Wrpg (The Witcher 2) literally tries to CLONE the gameplay of a Jrpg (Demon Souls) and whats sad is that Cd projekt outright stated it

witcher 2 is hardcore badass game. minus some crappy sex scenes that i hate do not compare any that game to any childish pink girly JRPG...Demon Souls is pinky and girly? I think we have played a different Demon Souls
And The Witcher 2, at least when it was released tried to copy the combat of Demon Souls but failed at it.

demon soul is not JRPG. im talking about games like tales series. The Souls serie IS a RPG from Japan so yeah, its a JRPG. Its just vastly different from what is normally released in term of JRPG.
I just don't play them at all. The only japanese RPG that I can say I've played and enjoyed recently would be the souls series, but it doesn't follow the typical JRPG formula.

If you're talking about genre, then Dark Souls isn't a JRPG, it comes from Japan but it lacks a lot of what makes a game a JRPG.Unless we consider V. Chronicles and DM/DK Souls to be JRPGs the only good ones I've played in recent years are on handhelds. Nearly all of those being rereleased older games (P4G) or rereleased Jurassic games (Chrono Trigger, DQ4/5/6). I have a strangely good feeling about FFXV though.
I have to disagree with Skyrim. Alduin was going to destroy the world so a new one could be created by Akotosh. Your Character actually screwed everyone. Alduin is also a God so killing him just delayed him. You'll find Elder Scrolls lore usually has situations go from bad to worse over time periods. I mean people still find it hard Vivec is dead. They are awesome, specially now since most modern Wrpgs are gameplay wise shallow as fvck right now .
