i personaly hate it. Its not impressive at all and sems like an excuse not to work hard, because it sems a lot easer to make. when you looks at a dirt road in cellshading games it is just one solid color, but in normal ones you can see different textures and the grains of dirt on the ground. the same for other things someones shirt will just look the same al around, when in a normal game you can see wrinkles and different colors on the shirt depending on the lighting.

Yes, the developers must be lazy because they decided to use a visual style for their game that you don't personally like. It can't be an artistic decision or anything.

He thinks that is " it sems a lot easer to make"... That's what I love from this forums, everybody comments about technical subjects as they were experts.

What's wrong with cel-shading, it's a nice break from all those realistic looking games and can look great, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker proved this BTW.

I've seen that the redactors of the local PC magazines worship this cell-shading method a lot... I don't know why, it looks so childish and ugly to me... It was cool maybe in 2003, but not now :D

Depends on the game, in my case. For example, I hated the cell shading graphics in Wind Waker because it didn't seem like that's how a Zelda game should look like. That's just my opinion though.

I think those games do not give you enough experience to judge that making a cell-shaded game is a sign of laziness.

Anyone who is playing a game and NEEDS it to look realistic needs to either play a better game or get him self sorted out. If cell-shaded graphics are too 'childish' for you, its ironic how i think you're the one who needs to grow up as obviously you're not mature enough to appreciate simple art. If you dont like them simply out of taste, that's your choice. Personally I believe it has already been shown that cell-shaded games can look stunningly beautiful (the wind waker was a fabuslous example of this, as is the more recent prince of persia). Cell shaded graphics arent always great as developers can get lazy with them, but done properly, they're beautiful.

It's not a mix. It's fully cell-shaded.

Just a more complex and "realistic" cell-shading than the ones from games like Zelda WW or Sly.

Cell shading is beautiful when its done right. Not many games pull it off in my opinion even the ones praised for there graphics. I like the style a lot however. Also, TC, don't talk about how lazy you think it is unless you have a clue about what you are talking about. Good cell shading is difficult, don't pretend otherwise.

No. You are mixing concepts. It's just a cell-shading that tries to resemble reality, like Prince of Persia's. Zelda WW is a cell-shading that doesn't. Both are fully cell-shaded games.

I like cel-shading. Already mentioned games like Team Fortress 2, Okami, and Zelda The Wind Waker (which is the epitome of good looking cel-shaded games) do a good job with cel-shading. And, yes, I do agree. It does like some of the developers can get lazy with some of the games. I'm not an expert, but it's easy to tell sometimes when developers just don't care.

This isn't a book question, its a common sense one. Having a simple looking games does not at all mean it was easy to accomplish. The work it takes to make a simple art style and make it look so good is difficult. No dictionary will give you a definition like this.

Its not impressive at all and sems like an excuse not to work hard, because it sems a lot easer to make. when you looks at a dirt road in cellshading games it is just one solid color, but in normal ones you can see different textures and the grains of dirt on the ground. the same for other things someones shirt will just look the same al around, when in a normal game you can see wrinkles and different colors on the shirt depending on the lighting.

yeah and you must be the one to judge game developers and how lazy they have become....... and actually cellshaded games can have alot of detail jus like the normal games but maybe you just tried one that wasnt as good

i really like to have the combination between cellshaded and the normal kind of games so that no one gets bored of any
so for me i enjoy both types as long as the game is awesome and i think both may take alot of work to develop so no need to belittle any ones work actually i think sometimes that some cellshaded games may be even more difficult to develop

This is the grass in Wind Waker:

Not what I'd call 'solid', but it's all basically the same color. I think it looks nice, though.

Yes, that's another way to go about it. But in 10 years, you know which one will look better and retain its charm.
