I believe them to be arrogant and highly over-rated. While I won't deny that the L4D is series is heaps of fun. That is all they have that appelas to me, I can play the occasional match of TF2, but I don't understand the amzing praise they get, I think that this all goes to their heads. They really like to dangle the carrot of a new half-life in fron tof their fans, when it could easily have released long ago, surely they dont have all of their talents towrds the massivly over-rated portal 2 or their next announced title DOTA 2? Could they have not broke up into organized groups like other Devs do and perhaps have a permanent Half-life team, since it is such a popular IP? They seem reluctant to birth a new engine as well, while Source is doing a fair enoguh job keeping pace, the time is about right make something new? The pedigree they have seems undeserved recently, L4D2 being the only strong thing recently out, while their other games continue to thrive of mods the community makes. Thats my ant, agree? Disagree? I am curious to see what people think of them. Derp_over9000
VALVE is an overrated one trick pony.
I haven't played anything from them other than the L4Ds, but based purely on those, Valve is freakin awesome. Those are the only games I'm truly jealous of not having
Actually I could honestly care less for Half-Life. Half-Life 2 and ep 1 were boring. Half-Life 1 looks extraodinarly boring, and would be unbearable to watch if it wasn't for the fact it was the very humerous freemans mind. But I agree, it must be torture for Half-life fans and the wiat for the next one:PThey should give me mah half-life/10

Valve is amazing/10 Not only do they make freaking awesome games they also made Steam. Consoles wish they had steam. They also wish they had our version of TF2.Ace6301
Steam/Steamworks is coming to consoles....specifically the PS3.
Valve's still an overrated One Trick Pony though.

I think they should release the next Half Life installment already before I blow up their headquarters.

lol im pretty sure "unnatural" and "derp" are the same person trolling. I don't even see why you would even have a problem with them. Don't like their games, thats fine, but millions of others do. You could completely ignore valve and everything htey do and still have a plethora of great devs to choose from. Your just wasting your time grumbling over something completely trivial
I like Valve when they aren't working on Half Life at this point.
What Left 4 Dead lacks in content(well 2 fixed that a bit) it made up for in being the epitome of cooperative gaming. It was unique when it came out, and it's entire styIe of play is still its own thing. It's highly replayable, and the competitive MP side of it is a lot of fun to play. It just needs more acts.
Portal is probably one of the best puzzle games I've played. The stupid "the cake is a lie" meme was killed thanks to the Internet, but the game is damn good.
Team Fortress 2 is probably the best shooter MP this gen. Half Life 2 on the other hand I have a love/hate for. I love the pacing, the presentation, gravity gun, and I like that it tries to stay varied. I absolutely dislike the combat(it's ass), the vehicles(the controls are ass), and the puzzles are pathetic(major waste of time). That and I really do not think it aged as well as everyone says it does. **** was archaic in the gunplay department the day it came out. The hell do you think happened to it years later?
So yeah personally I love Valve with less Half Life, more everything else. Portal 2 looks ace. DoTA could be interesting.
I stopped at "Valve is overrated", I am sorry but Valve is anything bud overrated.
Half Life1 and 2 are amazing and Team Fotress2 for pc is not only this gens best online shooter but one of the best ive played in 20+ years.
Sorry bud, gotta dissagree with ya.
they take all the credit where credit is not due.
they did not make Counter-Strike. 2 modders did.
they did not make Left 4 Dead. modders did.
did not make Portal. students did.
did not make Day of Defeat. modders did.
did not make Team Fortress. modders did.
what they do is they look at people who have original ideas like the games above, and hire them, then slapping a Valve logo at the end-product.
all they ever did was Half Life. from that those above games were born, but Valve's only creative input for me was Half Life. those other games are born from other people's minds. people outside the studio. the ideas were already conceived even before Valve hired them.
But if I ignored them, how would I get my L4D? And no, I am not this unnatural you speak of, I didn't mean to come off as a rampant trool, just chose to state mey opion on their weaknessess as a Dev and wanted to hear what other people thought. I don't even see why you have a problem with this thread. Dont like it, okay, but other people herecame in to discuss it.You could have also not posted and wasted time grumbling about me complaining. Their are tons of other posters that would provide much better disscussion for you, you could completly ignore what I do and still have a good time psting, this is honestly a very trivial matter.......:Plol im pretty sure "unnatural" and "derp" are the same person trolling. They're one of the most respectful companies when it comes to the consumer, they provide one of the best services imagineable for gamers completely free of charge, and they have yet to release a game I did not LOVE.
Hey, opinons are opinoins, I found HL boring and slow paced, and TF2, while fun, was not something that would fill my gaming needs for a very long amount of time.I stopped at "Valve is overrated", I am sorry but Valve is anything bud overrated.

Quick question, slightly off topic. Would you say it's worth buying the PS3 version of The Orange Box? I hear it's got some bad technical bugs but being that it's my only option, would you still recommend I buy it?
From what I have read it goes Pc version> 360> Ps3. I heard with the bugs though, that people still reccomend it. It is just not the best option if you get a shot at the first 2.Quick question, slightly off topic. Would you say it's worth buying the PS3 version of The Orange Box? I doubt anyone plays TF2 anymore on the PS3. Portal and all of HL2 is really good but chances are your computer can run both of those games since portal is rather low intensity and HL2 is quite old. TF2 you actually need a much better PC then it says you do since they've added so much stuff over the years and it runs worse now than it did at launch. But yeah imo HL2 and Portal are worth it since it must be less than 20$ now or something.Quick question, slightly off topic. Would you say it's worth buying the PS3 version of The Orange Box? All of the games they publish are top notch, they created the most modded engine out there, they created Steam. That's enough for me to like em.

Hm, well I guess that $20 for all those games, broken or not, seems like a good deal. I'm also thinking about getting FEAR, but of course the PS3 version has to suck. DAMIT SONY! I love teh PS3 but why in the holy hell does so many of it's multiplats have to suck!?

If you are getting Fear, expect more shooting then actual scares, they came to far and in between imo and it turned into a standard"go down this corridor, shoot some dudes, and a robot to pull his stch to open the door". The first year multiplats are pretty bad for the system. Gods among men is what I think. One of the few companies who listen and cater to their fans. To the OP, Valve is broken down into teams so L4D or Portal and I think even TF2 had little to no effect on the development of HL3. The reason for the EP3 delay is more likely the development of a new engine not arrogance and blabla.

People still play TF2 on the PS3.
I own the game, and the problems that were talked about were patched a long time ago.
Game is good...Although, I do admit that the game loads alot...other than that its fine.
I think that with all the money they are making from Steam and their past titles they should be doubling their work force and bringing me games faster. I think the same about Blizzard and Bioware as well. alextherussianBlizzard sure but i think Bioware are bringing out their games to fast.
[QUOTE="Derp_over9000"]wait wha, what is this? Naughty Dog..I am less familiar with and even less familiar with their product, howvever they seem to be great devs that can do much (they did crash bandicoot back in the day right) and vary their games. However I will agree that the Hype surronding UC is a bit Over rated, though I havent played, so I cant prpperly judge wheter the hype is worthy or not.
