I found this to be an interesting read. Whereas some of the points listed were incredibly obvious (more characters? more stages? Duh), some of the other points raised were interesting, especially points #4 and #2.

I've always said that the next Super Smash Bros. needs to have the gameplay and mechanics of Melee and the game modes and scope of Brawl, and it will be legendary.

What do you guys think?

Yeah, I have to agree. 4 and 2 were good points.

The perfect Super Smash Bros game would have the scope and customization of Brawl, the mechanics of melee and the balance of StarCraft: Brood War.

I dunno, I found Melee to be very balanced. Except for Jigglypuff and Falco, who were unfairly overpowered. And Ganondorf, who was worse than useless.

Melee was pretty well balanced. Everyone had their counters their weaknesses and such. But Fox was overpowered at high level play (although he could easily be beaten by Pichu, the worst character in the game). Even though Melee was relatively balanced, it wasnt the most balanced game out there.

Variety, i thik that the formula is great as it is, we just need more variety, stages, character, music, etc, and a much better stage editor.

On the other hand, i think that the online is not a must for this game, offline is the way to go, it would be a nice feature, but not something it must have.

Oh yes, definitely. Super Smash has never been balanced to begin with. I think that, to begin with, Nintendo might have conceived of Super Smash to be like a fighting game version of Mario Kart- unbalanced, outrageously over the top, and fun. But then it turned into something much more serious :P

With the WiiU's new online system, it really could go either way. It dephends entirely on the devs.

For the online I want,

  • Lobbies
  • Ladders
  • Along with Matchmaking
  • Stat Tracking for RANKED play. No Stat Tracking for unranked play.
  • No Level Ups, no perks.

They definitely need to give it some signficant changes, while keeping the core elemnts and gameplay the same. They NEED to change, add, remove characters. Ganondorf sucks the way he is lol. He is not even like Ganandorf. Hmmm...I have a sword? Screw that, I will kick them!

The online needs to be top tier and organized for tournaments and such. It could be amazing if done right.

I agree with some of the points fully, but there are a few I would change slightly. With number seven, the developers would have to include few, if any, clones characters. Melee was guilty of it, but at least there weren't two clones for the same character (Fox, Wolf, Falco). With number seven, I want more high-quality stages. I found many of the stages in Brawl to be pretty weak and annoying. Also, the developers could also go the next level with classic stages by including all of them from the previous games; I'm sure there would be enough room (especially since the Brawl disc had a ton of wasted space). Likewise, with the music, I want more high-quality music tracks. Brawl had a few gems, but it was inconsistent overall; Melee was more consistent, aurally.

Others I agree with (online, tripping). The only one that seems like wishful thinking is the point about the Gamecube controllers.

I completely agree. They felt rehashed, small, and boring. Melee had better levels IMO.

Yeah I'd rather have few levels that I really liked, rather than a lot of levels I didn't really care for. I don't see the necessity for a ton of characters and a ton of levels. The quantity in a product should never take importance over quality.

I actually agree with most of that list. More characters not some much. More variety in characters, yes. The obligatory Fox, Wolf, Falco. Link, Toon Link. I do agree about the speed the most. Going back to Melee from Brawl was definitely noticeable.

Uhm there is no port for GC controller on the console itself so that's basically confirmed.

It also doesn't make any sense to include it.

You still have CC and Upad, Wiimote sideways and Wiimote+nunchuck.

@ #4, If you're playing with items on and complaining about the games balance then you're doing it wrong. Pretty much all items break the competitive nature of the game seeing as they are so random to begin with. Smashballs may be the most OP item, but since you can just turn them off I see no problem with them being in the game. However, I think tripping is pointless and I would prefer it if they would get rid of it all together. If tripping is going to stay though, then it needs to be an option instead of something that is forced upon you at all times.

There are other games that suit that desire then. It would be like asking to turn Skyrim into a isometric turn based roleplaying game.

I thought the combat in Brawl was a little off compared to Melee and they need to focus more on each characters instead of adding more. Also they need to get the online right; just imagine online tournament battles.

Because the only thing that makes Smash Bros, Smash Bros is the chaotic 4 player gameplay. It has no universe, no lore, no characters belonging to the IP. Besides, knowing Nintendo, I think they make games with this kind of gameplay better than Street Fighter gameplay. Let Capcom do those kinds of fighters and let Nintendo do their own thing, we all get something to suit our tastes.

I thought the level editor was pointless because the best (competitive) levels were already on the disk. In order for it to be any good it either needs to be a really, REALLY powerful editor that could let you create truly crazy levels (like pokefloats). Personally, I think they should just scrap it all together and commit their resources towards the more critical aspects of the game that need to be improved (like the online).

Becuase it doesn't make sense.

It's a party brawler, not a fighter. I can't stand the latter.

The point is that it's unpredictable and chaotic, a skilled player is supposed to die randomly from some crazy item or something. I'm having so much fun playing with beginners even. It's not about winning or loosing.

The online definitely has too be good, at least on the level of PSN and XBL. I would also like to see more balanced game like it was in Melee, Brawl was just all over the place imo. And they should make the 3DS version compatible with some features with the Wii U.

You're right, but if they improve it- it could a fantastic addition for the game- and I think we can safelyassume that the online will be far superior to Brawl's. I can't see Nintendo letting this game's online be anything except the best online game for WiiU

Also nerf or remove Metaknight.

They need to focus on both.(The Casual and competitive side) Melee did it pretty well. It was pretty chaotic with items on. If you turn items off, it was a decent fighting game.

Sadly Brawl didn't do that.

Edit- Actually screw that. Just get rid of the items. They never made the game fun anyways.

Greatly improve the online, get rid of tripping and make it more balanced. I disagree with removing final smashes as you have the choice of turning it off at Brawl. Just balance them as I felt some characters had very overpowering FS compared to others.

The GC controller compatability seems like that won't happen.

Really in order to be a good game, SSB game just has to have a couple new characters and stages and I'm sold. Oh and better online.

EDIT: Keep the Final Smashes!! Just get rid of them online.

4. REMOVE TRIPPING AND FINAL SMASHES

not so much as Final Smashes cause I thought they were the coolest thing in Brawl (maybe nerf them?), but OMG YES ON THE TRIPPING! THAT WAS THE DUMBEST THING NINTENDO COULD DO IN THAT GAME!

Other wise everything is pretty good too. I'd like to see Mewtwo and Roy return really.
