What does the PS3 have to counter Gears of War 2?

There are so many things wrong with what you just said.

First of all, Uncharted 2's primary selling point is single player. This isn't Halo.

Secondly, you fail to realize that Killzone gets a lot of plays. Does making threads on Killzone indicate the games activeness? Apparantely thats what you seem to think. And what exactly do you expect people to do?

Make a thread stating Killzone's awesomeness? It has no relevance to System Wars. And I'm sure as hell that people care less for more "Killzone vs. Halo" threads, though they do pop up. Gamespot does not define the activeness of Killzone and the lack of activity on this board about Killzone does not mean Killzone lacks activity. I dont see why people continously make this fallacious point time and time again on these boards :|

have you played uncharted 2 yet? i doesn't take much to match gears of war, just your generic shooter, with classic grunts for main characters "OH YEAH!!!". i couldn't even stomach myself to finish the first one. Uncharted on the other hand was an awesome hollywood movie like adventure. the environment and story are what made it 20x better than gears. Naughty Dog makes you care for Nathan Drake. Gears of War not so much.

Thats funny because i actually found Gears of War extremely boring and uninspired. its "story" was ridiculously bad, and it's shooting aspect felt very underwhelming. the guns had practically no punch. it was criminally short with little replay value.;)

And you would know this how? Look if you like GEOW2, that's cool. You dont have to post a topic about it here claiming the game to completely eclipse Resistance 2, Uncharted 2 etc. You are dead set on your opinion on how every ps3 exclusive is inferior to GEOW2, so why do you have to keep asking us what the ps3 has to counter it? Besides, the ps3 has it's own share of exclusives that other systems dont have, it doesnt need a counter for every game the other systems do have. That's like saying the 360 does not have a counter for Killzone 2, because i find Halo 3 to be vastly inferior, period. Well yes, that is fact-- Halo and Gears are successful. Is that all you are trying to prove here? seems to me you are digressing from your topic. The answer to your question is Uncharted since its most similar to Gears, but its also very unique. Why are you now going on about people playing multiplayer?

Impact =/= A better game

Sure Gears had more of an impact because of:

1. Its excellent marketing

2. It was the first true next gen showcase

Sales drive impact on the industry, and they do not always determine quality. (not saying Gears was lacking in quality btw)

i'm just saying, the 360's exclusives leave more of an impact. and theres evidence by how many people still play them. ESPECIALLY Halo 3.

The reason everyone plays Halo 3 is Halo 1 came out and it was loved. Halo 2 came out, and the world exploded. Halo 3 came out... well, LA had to be rebuilt over-night, NY streets were repaved, Australia flipped over and had to be airlifted to the E.R., etc. It built upon this and had a reputation of fun. You could just mess around. KZ2 was waaaay more realistic, but it didn't deliver in the mess-around MP level. So everyone plays Halo 3 because it is just a hang-out place. You can chill and relax.

nahh... all 3 titles are amazing..

i dont care which game sold most, but you cannot put GOW & Geow in the same level... GOW is just too hhmm epic :P

Uncharted is close to Geow gameplay wise, though one is a straight out shooter while the other has platforming/action/adventure elements.. still though the feeling i got from their mp is pretty similar.. (by mp i mean impressions i got from U2's beta)

Maybe it looks like a lot of games are copying Gears because they use the same engine?

I keep meaning to give Gears another shot. It was a fun game, but i was destroyed pretty early on, and im fickle like that. The PS3 dosen't have a tactical tps to match it yet.

Gears has been great for MS, almost like a mini Halo. I just wish MS would remove there head from the arse and get some first party games of Gears' caliber made.

Alot of people still play R2 and K2.... and the only reason we are not is coz there are so many awesome games in the ps3 while xbox...... well lets just say there are NO games in the xbox anymore.

Honestly i never played Gears of war 2 so i have no idea what to compare it with.... But can you xbox fanboys come close to the best game in history which is MGS4.... Epic Win

I don't know, I mean, maybe it's just me...but I find a subtle self-deprecating irony in the fact that back when cows had no games (circa 2007) and lems had Halo and Gears all they did was rub that in their faces. Fast forward to present day and they are STILL rubbing the SAME games in their face. This is either a testament to the quality of those games, the strength of MS's marketing department, or the lack of quality IPs since. I'm inclined to believe the latter, but that's just me, and I could be wrong.

Gears of war 2 wasn't even nominated for game of the year 2008. Both Resistance 2 and MGS4 were nominated, and MGS4 won game of the year 2008. According to GS, there are 2 ps3 exclusives on that list that beat gears of war.

As for personal experience, none of my xbox360 owning friends care too much about gears of war 2. They played it and beat it, but most of them have told me that they wouldn't consider gears 2 to be amongst the best 360 has to offer (i.e. left 4 dead, orange box, halo 3, mass effect)

i only played Geow1, i really liked it, but seriouly, the only interesting point in the game the final twist the models are walking tanks, u2 is a lot more interesting, but theyr different so, quantum theory is the way to go?

geow is not on a league of its on, quantum theory could be tons better for all we know

GS awards mean little to nothing. Did they not award MGS4 best graphics or some madness? I'm actually in love with the MGS series, but even i thinks that's beyond insanity.

As for your friends, sadly they go againts the curve.

Gears is one of the best games this gen, and probably the best new IP in terms of critical reception, sales and popularity.
