We have all these 'graphix' king topics, but they never stay king for too long and graphics won't ever replace gameplay.
As for my opinion I honestly can't make up my mind, to me its between L4D, Valkria Chronicles, or Zelda: LttP

Super Mario Galaxy. It's the best modern day platformer and arguably the best platforming game of all time.
You can say SMG worked because it had very little waggle controls tacked on. It was mostly traditional controls.
Super Mario Galaxy. It played like heaven. Smooth as butter. Such a polished gaming experience.

Agreed. Some of the best fun I've had this gen is with SMG.
Personally, Final Fantasy's and Level-5 JRPGs take this one from me.
PSdual_wielder
Which ones exactly?
I mean level 5 pretty much just delivered Layton and Inazuma games this gen, plus WKS.
Rogue Galaxy and Dark Cloud were last gen mind you.
The Final Fantasys were just remakes.
I can see where people are coming from with SMG.
Personally my vote goes to Halo 3 online multiplayer. The gameplay is what keeps you coming back. I have like 2700 online matches and counting... thats not inlude second accounts. lol.
NHL 2009 is another favorite of mine in the gameplay category.
Just because you play it a lot doesn't mean it's the king. People play WOW 24/7, yet it's gameplay is shallow, same with Halo.I can see where people are coming from with SMG.

Oh I see, we're talking about this gen only. For some reason I saw the topic title I thought it referred to all-time up till right now. lol
Lets see, I will give it to...Fallout 3, LBP, SF4, and L4D. :)
How the hell can you define a gameplay king?
I don't like RPGs, so that rules those out. I don't really like turn based stratagy games, so that rules those out...
I mean you can't just say a gameplay king. There are to many genres and subgernes.
Graphics king is pretty clear cut. If a game looks better than another, it has better graphics. Not so easy with gameplay.

MGS4...i'll be surprised if anything in my lifetime surpasses it!
Is that sarcasm? because MGS4 barely gives you any time to actually play the game
But what time you do spend playing, the gameplay is remarkably good. Lengthy cutscenes =/= bad gameplay, as you're apparently claiming... :?We have all these 'graphix' king topics, but they never stay king for too long and graphics won't ever replace gameplay.

In Adventure/RPG's - Fable 2/Fable
In RPG's - Gothic 2/Lands of Lore/Ultima/FF
In Adventures - Sierra Kings Quest/Monkey Island/Quest for Glory
In Action/Adventure - Zelda OOT/MM/WW, Team ICO games
In shooters - Aliens vs Predator 1, Halo 1-3
In action - NG, GOW

WoW gameplay is shallow. go there kill this or get this. Everything is repetative. Once you reach lvl 80, it becomes boring as hell. That's why I cancel my subscription.

But what time you do spend playing, the gameplay is remarkably good. Lengthy cutscenes =/= bad gameplay, as you're apparently claiming... :? Look, I love MGS too but it was only 4-5 hours of play. Not bad but nothing astounding either. As a complete game MGS4 is deffently in my top ten but as gameplay goes...nah. I'd have to say GTA 3 though 4 for me.Nothing was such a big jump in quality imo than every platformer before 2007 to SMG. The motion controls are incredibly smooth and polished imo, and it is an amazing platformer. That game truly tops all in terms of gameplay imo.

That's the way MGS4 is supposed to be played.

Took me about 7 hours and I was trying to unlock Big Bosses face camo (seems like I killed someone during my play though at act 5) which means I was trying to go thought the game without being sceen and without killing under 5 hours. How would anyone get that if the game is 10-15 hours long?

AND skipping all skippable cutscenes, i finished with a time of 14:45:03. I played through very tactically and was as stealthy as possible. i feel that's how MGS4 should be played, so that's how i play it.

Lengthy cutscenes =/= bad gameplay, as you're apparently claiming... :?I'm not saying the gameplay is bad, i'm saying there is not enough of it. If they made cutscenes interactive (besides zooming in and flashbacks) it would of made the game alot better (maybe QTE's for cetain bits, like combat)
But i think fallout 3 is a standout, due to VATS
Jet Set Radio, DDR, Lumines come to my mind when I think about it. Maybe something like Top Spin as well.
Also. Riddick Bowe Boxing on the Sega Game Gear.
