It is mandatory that I mention Halo Infinite.😎
I think it's more so mandatory that @hardwenzen mentions Halo Infinite.

Don't worry, i do my job.
@shellcase86: That honestly sounds like a typical Kojima made game. Interesting gameplay that is hampered by cutscenes and such.
@blackacezero777: You're not wrong. I hope the guy can just dial back a bit (ok, a lot), because he makes good games excluding the non-game elements.
@shellcase86: In some ways, I don't think I want to see it dialed back. It's part of the charm of his games, but I think I am looking at it through a Metal Gear lens. Maybe it should be in Death Stranding since the gameplay seems to be a central part of the game unlike Metal Gear. I think this could be that big-headedness I hear from critics of his work and how he is trying to be so deep that he sacrifices the gameplay (pretty much the core of gaming) for story to push whatever message he is trying convey.
@blackacezero777: 100% get the ps5 version. it's the director's cut so you'll get a ton of improvements and extra content. it's a gorgeous looking game on ps4 so should look even better on ps5. i'll definitely get the upgrade when i come back to playing it again.
ps5 director's cut is generally around £20 here in uk so to me it's not worth the time / effort trying to find the ps4 version under £10 and upgrading it to save a few quid, but i'm happy to take a punt on a game for that price
Just finished Director's Cut on PS5. Wow, this is a beautiful game. It is eye candy through and through.
I read along your replies and agree. This game has some really solid fundamentals. The world building is fun and addicting. The gameplay mechanics are solid. The combat is a mix of good and bad, but overall I thought it was ok. The concept and premise are very interesting. The cast and voice acting is top tier. And the soundtrack and game world/environment are awesome. Truly.
And then there is the story. And the cutscenes. And the constant interruptions. If ever there was a game that did not value your time or agency as a player -- this is it. It was so frustrating! It's a shame because the actual gameplay sections are so fun and enjoyable. But then there is a cutscene. Followed by a codec. Followed by more interrupting dialogue. It's like being in an abusive relationship.
yeah can relate to that (although from my experience days gone is the worst offender of what youre describing). there are plenty of legit criticisms to make tbh. it's a game that packs so much in, and a lot of it is varying degrees of new territory, there's always going to be bits that don't quite land. personally i'm not too bothered about that, i'd rather play a game that's bold, bat shit crazy and tries new things even if some of them miss the mark, rather than the same old done to death aaa formulas
Now that I'm playing through Elex II, and thoroughly enjoying it, I've gotta add Piranha Bytes work into this thread as well. The mixed review scores are justified but don't really do their games justice as IMO they are still worth playing.
They are Euro-jank exemplified, but damn if they don't nail what I am looking for in a story/choice driven open world RPG. Interesting world to explore, loads of great quests and interesting characters to talk to, and a real sense that you are getting more powerful as usually at the start of their games you are weak and useless and have to really earn your slow rise to becoming a badass. no level scaling so you constantly get your ass kicked even by pretty weak monsters early on.
Obviously you need to have a significant jank tolerance to enjoy their games - the presentation is a generation behind or more in many areas, combat and even movement are pretty clunky. But I find after an initial shock you can get used to all this more than you might expect.
if you haven't played one of their games and enjoy open world RPGs such as classic Bethesda games or something like The Witcher 1, you should absolutely give them a shot (Elex 1 isn't a bad starting point). Just know that you'll need a bit of patience early on to see what makes them enjoyable.
@kejigoto:
I remember I used to buy every Pokemon game but found them the same just add new Pokemon and new regions to explore and Legends. It definitely sells millions so why fix it if it isn't broken? It's definitely fun as I haven't played Pokemon since X/Y on the 3DS and been playing Brilliant Diamond and Eevee on Switch. Those games look better though and are much harder than the originals. Haven't had a chance to play Arceus, Sword or Shield and probably won't get Violet. Just too many Pokemon games like in the 90's and 2000's. If I had played all of them I would hate them for not evolving.
the answer is obviously halo infinite. 343 made an absolute masterpiece of a game with infinite, yet the fanboy cows, led by people like hardwenzen and pedro have made it their mission to trash the game. 343 is doing a FANTASTIC job, just need to keep it up and add more content. Build it and they will come.

If you compare Infinite to previous Halos, it is a disappointment

Halo Infinite campaign is better than Halo 5, Halo 4, Halo Reach, Halo 3 ODST, Halo Wars without a doubt.

My comment still stands 😎

Of course it still stands. We wouldn't take that away from you. Just that it's not accurate is all 😎

exactly haha, his opinion on halo infinite is as bad as his glorifying the ps vita of all things
Cyberpunk because of how awful it was on last-gen consoles.
I played it on PC. I experienced perhaps two or three bugs, none were game breaking. I had an older GPU at the time (2080 Super) and it still ran fine and looked very good at 1440p, mostly high settings, and making use of DLSS.
Was the game a pioneering revelation like CDPR hinted it would be at times? No. In fact it felt rather conventional. But it was not the dumpster fire that some people suggested it was.

They don't evolve because they sell so well and continue to sell well. Doesn't matter if you or I as individuals like it or not cause the franchise is doing exactly what it is meant to do. I haven't played a Pokémon game since X/Y on 3DS and before that it was Fire Red/Leaf Green on the GBA.
Using the Nuzlocke rules I have gone back and played through a few over the years I missed like Gold/Silver, Diamond/Pearl, and Ruby/Sapphire but that was me making my own fun with it.
Take a look at something like Yo-Kai Watch 4. The first three games in that series did incredibly well and seemed like it was primed to be the next Pokémon for Nintendo as it took off. Then they went ahead and did a huge evolution to the series in ways that many say they want to see Pokémon evolve and what happened? Flopped hard sales wise. Worst sales the series has ever seen. One of the best selling 3DS franchises can't even move 300k units the year it releases in Japan. 17 million copies total sold in the franchise and it died on the Switch cause the core fanbase that kept it going in the first three games wasn't interested anymore. They changed too much.
Pokémon is largely in the same boat of fearing alienating their core fanbase by changing too much. So they do a little bit at a time and now even launching entire side projects to test out new gameplay mechanics with fans.
FF VII Remake
It's quite possibly the greatest game ever made. Easy 11/10. It doesn't get nearly the credit it deserves, considering it revolutionized gaming as we know it forever.
I saw this game being played for the first time a couple weeks ago and I was absolutely amazed by it.
The only downside is that it is not the whole FF7! That made me want to turn it off right there and just wait until the whole thing is released. Still, it is a treat.
