Hello. I'm here to ask you a question:
*insert topic title*

It seems both these games are looked at as "zero gameplay, maximum visuals". And as far as The Order goes, yeah, it looks goddamn beautiful, but I've been playing Ryse for the last 2 hours, so that means I'm almost done with it, and this game looks pretty damn good, too.

Except that I've been getting interrupted less in the gameplay department. Yes, Ryse, so far, happens to be the game that takes you out of the action a lot less than The Order.

I'd like to clarify, I've finished The Order, and I haven't finished Ryse. About to, 5 minutes from now, but between these 2 graphical, linear juggernauts, which one do you prefer?

I AM RYSE

I AM THE ORDER 2015

Go for it.

Ryse had more gameplay plus Ryse had a co-op online arena mode.

Although Ryse has less cutscenes , every combo ends in a QTE. Ryse also uses higher quality assets during cut scenes The Order does not It uses the same throughout.

So although the order probably has more cut scenes it's a much more seemless experience. I actually enjoyed both.

Ryse has gameplay consistently, it tries to have this bullshit metagame out of the simon says hit this button, but it's lame. In theory it gets the casual audience to the end of the game, and gives the enthusiast player what they want from a satisfaction standpoint. In practice it makes the game overly simplistic and functional, but devoid of any actual depth or satisfaction beyond basic game feel, and oh man that dude got my sword in his throat.

It's just more cinematic and straight forward than what Crytek used to be. Far Cry, Crysis, and Warhead offered a level of freedom we don't see in FPS's today, with these big sandboxes, and game mechanics that allowed for some dope on the fly ass kicking. Without fault? **** no they had the trigun, the aliens, and at times some really questionable level design that made the game feel more half baked for a level than well put together. But the overall experience was something forward thinking, progressive, and on their best day (Warhead) brilliant. Ryse on the flip side is vanilla, a pleasant spectacle on a visual level, and sure I can see it being fun on a very basic level (because again sword through the throat), but there is no rich layer to the gameplay that'll stick with you, have you thinking, have you experimenting, make you feel like you have something to learn. You knew everything you needed to know about the gameplay in the tutorial.

Haven't played The Order, my understanding from watching it is that it's a pretty generic tps (as generic as Ryse is a beat em up), but it has Max Payne 3's level of intrusive ass cutscenes that ruin the gameflow. Oh and the lycan fights are this bullshit QTE fest, instead of what should and could have been boss fights. Way to go video game industry.

Ryse definitely has MORE gameplay, but I enjoyed The Order more. The Order has the better graphics too I'd say. I didn't hate Ryse, but The Order is the lesser of two evils Id say.

Ryse is actually decent as a game. It's got a semi batman combat system going on

The Order is literally 50% cutscenes/walking and 50% generic third person shooting.

I say Ryse has more gameplay, it's a Roman game, (I do like history Roman, Greeks, ect) co-op, and has way more content then The Order: 1886. 1886 is just eye candy and nothing more.

I think Ryse has a lot of missed potential when it comes to its gameplay. It tries to be really realistic and only gives you a gladius and shield, but there is only so much you can do with that. They should've went more game and less realism. Give us cool combos and upgrades, new weapons, spears you can throw, etc. Spice up the gameplay.

I haven't play The Order yet, I will some time. But it seems to have a lot of missed potential in the lenght it lets the player in control. People seem to like the shooter sections, but they are too short and too few of them. They give the players cool weapons (Ryse lacks here) but only lets you use them for short durations.

So both have a very interesting setting and great looking graphics. But so much missed potential.

I feel Ryse was a rushed launch title but even then it had more gameplay and replayability than The Order.

Oh Ryse for sure, it actually plays out like a normal game, cut scenes are quite few and far between. I think the reason people think there is little gameplay is due to their misunderstanding regarding the optional QTE executions.

Would Ryse be worth it for $20? I've seen it recently and have considered picking it up now that I have an XB1. And is the coop in the game couch coop? That'll probably push me over the edge to get it.

@Zassimick: I actually enjoyed Ryse, it's absolutely worth $20. It's got a great atmosphere, decent lore, decent story and there's nothing like games surrounding the Roman empire. It can get a bit repetitive here and there but it's not a bad game by any means, it's just average.

I don't think there's couch coop. I paid 15 for it, and I'm having a good time. It looks pretty. The executions are brutal. And it certainly doesn't hurt if you like the roman empire. For 20? I'd go for it, but that's just me. It's not a brilliant game by any means, but I'm enjoying it so far.

@freedomfreak: you sir are a harder book to read... (not least because your book is filled with pictures of boobs :p) Though you are also one of the few honest here so pretty certain you have from what you have said :p.

Just when people say The Order is nothing but cut scenes and pretty graphics ; or that Ryse is a qte fest... Just screams out that folks haven't even played the games themselves :p

I've played both, I own both. Ryse has considerably more gameplay, and it's not interrupted constantly by cut scenes and button prompts which pull you out of any immersion in the game.

Fair enough. To me, The Order is just wasted potential. The setting begs for more to be done with. I liked the Arc Gun and Thermite Gun. I just need more of that. I need more of that alternate history being brought forward, and I hope we'll see more of that IP, and not only that, I hope RAD puts its best foot forward.

@freedomfreak: wasted potential about sums it up to me too, though i still enjoyed the experience and setting and crave for a sequel with more gameplay to see where the story goes.

Ryse I've only played a bit of, but again love the story and setting and will likely want a sequel.

You won't die, the executions which are 99% of the QTE complaints in the game are completely optional. There are a few events in the game where you have to use QTE but they're very scattered throughout the campaign.

PS4 owners: I like The Order it is better than the other one you talked about which I haven't played.

Xbox One owners: I like Ryse it is better than the other one you talked about which I haven't played.

Never played Ryse, but can't imagine enjoying it based on streams I've watched.

I found The Order to be a suitably good game. Deserves to be played, not necessarily purchased.

That doesn't mean you're going to die, block, counter and attack, it's not forced and it won't kill you unless you're absolutely horrible and your timing sucks.
