How much of a shift in the market would that cause? Both of these systems are obviously going to send the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One into a state of irrelevance and essentially replace them...

With that said, how would you react if it was priced the same as the Neo? It would have a 1.86 Teraflop advantage ONLY in GPU which equates to roughly 45% more powerful, this doesn't even account for the CPU possibilities.

4.19 TFLOPS is about 70 percent of 6 TFLOPS.

Both Sony and MS has applied on-the-field or last minute clock speed increase measures. If Sony has built enough TDP head room for NEO, Sony can counter or close the gap on XBOv2

Yes, 4.14 is roughly 70% of 6, but 4.14 to 6 is a 45% increase.

The PS4 hasn't really had any good AAA exclusives until this year, and it continued to sell well anyway. So there goes your theory. Perception matters, and if Xbox eventually has the most powerful console, it'll at the very least close the gap to PS4. IMO anyway.

Ugh....pure speculation thread. What's the point?

Rather have an uninspiredcup "Native American cannibal's from space are being oppressed in gaming" thread.

Not to mention like the PS4 currently more developers will want to work with whoever holds the most powerful device...

Well, they may pull a "Xbox 360" and come back with a bang, who knows.

The only way MS can make a comeback is to offer a great price/performance ratio so they have to play it right and carefully.

THAT sig tho

@dynamitecop: A year apart and depends on how ambitious MS wants to be. How greedy sony would have to be, It could happen. In this day and age where power matters it will be very laughable for sony.

MS struggles to lift perception of X1 from E3 launch, people still think its always online, DRM, ext

SONY keeps rolling and continues as current gen 8 console leader.

I'd probably buy both, but Neo 1st simply because I have already upgraded my X1 to the Halo 5 console.

They don't need to have much of a strong line up as they're focusing on the ecosystem, it just needs to be powerful and inexpensive imo

Yeah :D , i knew this is your only active account tho.

It won't shift the market at all. The reason MS is losing isn't because of power, Sony just has a better and more popular brand, that is all.

The only thing that will put Sony on a level playing field as MS is if Sony decide to sabotage themselves like they did with the PS3. MS can't compete with Sony when Sony has their head in the game.

No one outside of USA and UK gives a damn about Xbox when Sony is around. As long as Sony has that tight grip on international markets MS can't do a damn thing.

it'll be outsold 3:1 by the Neo. There's no future for the MS systems because everything is coming to PC. While you get a bunch of exclusives on a Sony platform and all the MS "exclusives" on a pc. What did you say??? You don't have a pc? Stop being a child and buy one.

Alan Wake 2 in 2021 at the earliest. Forza comes out every year and no one buys it. Phantom Dust was canned. Rare is dead.

If Neo is priced at $399.99 so will the Scorpio even if that means Microsoft will have to take a slight loss.

If the past has taught us anything its that people aren't willing to pay more than $399.99 for a console at least not in great numbers.

You try to sound overly technical all the time and it actually makes you appear legitimately dumb.

4.14 TFLOPS could be a typo from the article's author.

My point for NEO's 70 percent from XBOv2 is to set the price for NEO to be 70 percent of XBOv2.

It's pretty clear XBO at $399 is less desirable than $399 PS4 i.e. note the reason for R7-260's price being less than R7-265.

What ever it's gonna be it's only going to do well in the US, so the point is moot.

People still think it's solely power that's made PS4 one of the most successful consoles ever?

Naive.

Phil Spencer tweet is interesting. Lots of creative chatter today. Excited to share our gaming story at E3 on June 13th

Using the word creative could mean this not real news at all and it is what it is just a rumor. I laugh if Neo was just 3 teraflops and the Scorpio was 4 teraflops or the same as the Neo?

Price. I say both machines if they do come out will be roughly the same price at launch.

People on here have called me nuts in the past when I've brought this up but I'm saying it again: If these new consoles come out and if they're as powerful as is being claimed I think developers will get a heck of a lot more ambitious with the stuff they're making and a lot of the new games that come out will end up running clear down at 720p/30 on the original PS4 and X1.

We already had that scenario.

The PS2 squashed the xbox at the same price.

Is not a 1.86TF gap,Scorpio is 4x 1.3 TF which mean 5.2 TF not 6,Polygon again riding MS nuts of all sites like always.

6TF is closer to 5X xbox one than 4X xbox one,and on this market were MS even make a parade about having 150mhz faster CPU than sony,i don't think 4X will even be use if the machine was closer to 5 times stronger than the xbox one.

God 45% more than that the PS4 exhibit in most games vs the xbox one and you don't even care.

Well thats settles it i guess i fu**ing imagine Bloodborn on 2015 getting over 90 scores every where.

It was a fitment of my imagination i see,not to mention games like TLOU which has 95% and are not on xbox one either, but i guess your right the PS4 got no AAA until this year.lol

Now a bigger question is when will the xbox one get a AAA game...lol

Perception you say,how that helped the xbox beat the PS2.?

@dynamitecop said:

No most developer would want to work with who SELLS BEST.

Now have you stop for a second to think what will happen if Neo has a 1 year head start on Scorpio.?

Have you think about that.? Or are your to busy celebrating an unconfirmed 45% advantage.?

It wasn't just power and that survey was a 5 question one,the second choice is Blu-ray.? When the xbox one also is a blu-ray player.? And the PS3 and stand alone Blu-ray players are cheap.?

While it's true that Xbox One is weaker then PS4 but not THIS weak. I've played several games on Xbox One that have impressed me visually... and I have happen to have a high-end PC. I for one don't personally think it's resolution is the problem, gamers haven't forgiving MS's Xbox One DRM fiasco 2013 and they are truly lacking quality of exclusive games as it is and PS4 now has more games then Xbox One. Again we both know MS had a horrible start at launch and gamers out there aren't gonna forgive them for this.

@tormentos:

Who said it's a strict 4X?

The statement "Polygon again riding MS nuts of all sites like always." is not a valid counter argument.

A reminder

Without using Vega's 4X perf/watt improvements, 6 TFLOPS is possible when TDP target is near the original Xbox 360.

XBO can be 10X over X360 e.g. X360's HDR has to process two frame buffer pass for HDR FP quality greater than 10 bits color elements.

Modern GPUs can do HDR FP 32 bits color elements(i.e. part of 128bit HDR) in single frame buffer pass. Shader Model 4 requires HDR 128bit (packed 32bit) support. 16 bit FP HDR is better than Xbox 360's 10 bit FP HDR.

Sony is on too big of a roll. They can counter any MS announcement by concentrating on GAMES. I am loving this generation and the PS4 in paticular.

1. UC4 (amazing)

2. DOOM (My favorite game (more than UC4))

3. BloodBorne (Awesome)

4. Until Dawn (Great game)

5. Last of US remastered (One of the best games ever)

I really could not care about hardware updates. Sony just needs to concentrate on exclusives and the will continue to own the market.

We dont have that much information but lets assume Neo releases in November 2016 for $400 and the Scorpio in November 2017 for $400 and the power rumours of both iterations are the truth, here is how it could play out.

- By November 2017 the PS4 and PS4 Neo would most likely have already sold about 70 million units combined which would adding Xbone numbers to it not leave much marketshare left for 8th gen consoles.

- The Xbone would be at 30 to 35 million units, maybe even less if the Scorpio rumours will let customers hesistate (Very likely if MS is dumb enough to announce anything at E3).

- By November 2017, PSVR will have already been established and is the cheaper alternative compared to occulus anyway.

- By November 2017, Sony could easily drop the price of the PS4 Neo to counter the launch the Scorpio by $100 for example (which will most likely not even be necessary)

- Another possible counter from Sony is to start a new gen with the PS5 two years after the Scorpio. PS4 -3years-> PS4 Neo -3years-> PS5

This move culd only take away from Sony and PS4/Neo if they launched very close to each other but in the case of 1 year launch difference it would not do much and could even temper Xbone sales.

Something to thing about is the Scorpio is actually the 9th gen MS console (exclusive games) and not a iteration of Xbone. This scenario would be even harder to predict.

Edit: Also, the US and the Uk are the only territories that MS/Xbox have any fight left in them so the rest of the world could not give a **** about xbox anyway, Scorpio or not.

Ugh....pure speculation thread. What's the point?

Rather have an uninspiredcup "Native American cannibal's from space are being oppressed in gaming" thread.

@NathanDrakeSwag: How about zero exclusives since all games will be on W10 from now on.

Sony has better games than Microsoft, so power isn't a consideration, and never has been for me.

You gotta admit, it's phenomenally hilarious seeing a fanbase that decried that power didn't matter and it's okay to have a system that's 99% PC titles turn around and hype a hardware upgrade after 3 years.

Face it, you should have just bought a PC. Like, literally no one is fooled but you if you're a Lem. This is just the painful reality of the matter. $500 was enough to build a fairly competent system running your graphics off a chipset. Whatever you are spending on "Scorpion"?? There's your graphics card budget. BAM, I just solved literally all of your gaming woes in one post.

Bonus round consideration: Free online gaming.

What about Xbox 4 and PS5. Can we compare those yet? I mean, those are as real as these two upgrades to us, so why not!?

Personally, I think the eighth Nintendo console is going to surprise them both and release a much stronger and faster console, followed by Sega's.

It still wouldn't have any good exclusives so nobody would care.

You mean, YOU wouldn't care. lol!! Along with your troll buddies in SW. Other unbiased gamers will care. How many Cows didn't care that the PS4 was a bit more powerful then the XB1? lol!! The exclusive games will keep coming. That's mostly what Microsoft is focusing on now. They really need another 4-5 more development studios.

I'm sure Spender and Co. are trying hard, but I don't see the Xbox brand doing any better going forward. With much of their content making its way to PC, what's the incentive to buy an Xbox going forward?
