What is the best game that Sony has ever made? (1st party)

I thought that this would be a fun topic.

The best game that I've enjoyed was...

Seriously, this series needs a reboot.

Other than that, I'd say Jak and Daxter, or one of the original Spyro games. (If Spyro was a 1st party IP.)

It'd be between Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted 2, or God of War II for me.

Disclosure: I have not yet played The Last of Us.

I don't think 2nd party actually exists,

First Party means that the Parent company owns the other company

Third Party means that the publisher and or developer are independent.

Sometimes third party developers form exclusive contracts with a big company like Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo, but I wouldn't really call that a second party developer.

Hard to say which one is the "best Sony has ever made".

But one thing I´m shure, it´s not TLoU.

It's like Panzer Dragoon... but with mechs... and in space. I don't know about any of you, but that spells WIN in my book. :D

But a studio like Insomniac isn't owned by Sony right ?

And they still made exclusives for Playstation for 3 generations. Only to come out with a multiplat and Xbone exclusive recently. Now going back with a Playstation exclusive with Ratchet and Clank.

I would say that's second party.

A studio like Rare was second party, not owned by nintendo, still made exclusives for Nintendo. Only to be bought by MS so they are first party now.

The thing is: it's no use being second party anymore. Game development costs have gone way up and you're better off developing your games for as many systems as possible. So the second party term has faded a bit.

Could be that Naughty Dog wasn't owned by Sony before and now is. I can't say for sure.

Oh right, SotC is made by ICO which is a first party dev studio. For some reason, i kept thinking they where a 3rd party studio.

Man, they've had plenty of good ones over the years.

Guess I'll roll with Shadow of the Colossus.

It's not the best gameplay Sony has put out. I haven't played it nearly as much as some of their games, like Gran Turismo holy shit, way too many hours on those titles.

But at the end of the day, SotC stands out to me more than any of their other titles.

Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, Twisted Metal: Black, The Last of Us, Ratchet and Clank 2, Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, Twisted Metal 2, Legend of Dragoon, SOCOM 2, Syphon Filter, Champions of Norrath, Infamous, Demon's Souls, or Uncharted 2 for me.

I'll just say Sly Cooper since it's different and won't get a vote. My heart also sings many praises to SOTC.

Sony owns Naughty Dog since 2001 (before ND released Jak & Daxter).

I've explained this before...I know certain people dislike reading giant posts. So, while I have a ton of information, I'm going to make this BRIEF. Hopefully I still manage to explain this adequately avoiding a lengthy quote chain.

There is second party developers, but there is no such thing as a second party game.

When a product is made it is either 1st party or 3rd party.

Ex: If Konami, Activision, EA, or Capcom outsource a to another developer they don't own (example Konami's recent Castlevania's or Capcom's recent Bionic Commando releases), that game created is still considered Konami, Activision, EA, or Capcom game when it's made, despite the fact the game wasn't made by those companies.

Developers are either hired to make a first party game, hired to help with a 1st party game, or hired to make a 3rd party game (for Capcom for instance). Some developers are owned by the publishers.

If Sony, Nintendo, Sega, or M$ decide to outsource (recent example is new Xbone unreleased Phantom Dust was being outsourced now devs have shut down controversy), again that final product when released is 1st party.

Objectively, it would be Shadow of the Colossus. That has appeared on more lists of all-time greatest games than any other first-party Sony game. Colossus has appeared in 18 different all-time greatest games lists, more than both Uncharted 2 and TLOU combined.

Subjectively, I would pick Gran Turismo 3. That was the first-party Sony game I enjoyed the most, back in the PS2 days.

Dont know but I do know that I hated everything about Crash Bandicoot games during the PS1 era.

Uncharted 2 gets my vote.

TLOU by a wide fucking margin.

I'd say The Last of Us would be their single best in house tittle. Show's off everything I like about video games and what they can be in one single mind blowing package.

I share the same opinion in this entire post except infamous.

Demon's Souls is a Sony IP with SCEJ assisting development, that's close enough. Bloodborne I hope will be on the same level. Some iterations of Uncharted, SOTC, Syphon Filter and Ratchet Clank.

Good taste! :P Regarding Infamous, I really enjoyed that twisted ending of that first game and I'm a bit superhero biased, haha.

I enjoyed Spiderman 2 for a long time after it released and I bought it day one. Same for one of the Incredible Hulk games back then (The Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction). With Spidey 2, I liked swinging around the city was just so much fun at that time when it was new.

The one and only. Maybe the only classic, as well. Still has yet to be topped in the genre.

Uncharted 2 and Gran Turismo 3 are probably good objective picks to round out the top 5.
