SSBB.
I wish SSBB had character creation though...
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Brawl does not have more than 40 characters, what game are you playing?SC4 is just like all of the others.
SSBB reinvents the genre so people who dont even like fighters that much (like me) love the game. And the fact that there are over 40 characters just makes you want to buy it even more. If youre a fan of Snake, you'll buy it. Mario fanboy? Bought? Looking for a quality game starring sonic? Its a must-have.
For me, theres no contest.

Better fighter : SCIV
Better overall game : SSBB

C'mon now, SSBB is a fighter, and is arguably pretty deep.
I'm seriously sick of all you fighting game 'elitists' trying to tell people which games are fighters, and which aren't.
DBZ, Naruto, Psychic Force, Destrega (or whatever)... they're all damn fighters. EAT IT. go put quarters in your arcade machines or something.

I didn't say brawl wasn't a fighter, I said it wasn't a better fighter. Brawl is a much better game than any fighter I play. I'd recommend it to most people because it's generally fun with lots of characters, 4 player/teams, single player, trophies, modes, variety, easy to pick up, ad infinitum. Now if someone tells me they like fighting games and asked me to recommend a game, I'd have a long list of competitive fighters to list before brawl.

So you're saying brawl IS a fighter... and much better than other fighters... but also not a great fighter. The only way you'd made sense would be to put SSBB in another category.
If you actually considered it a fighter, i honestly wouldn't see why you wouldn't recommend it if it's the best.

Plowing through subspace emissary, seeing how far you can hit the punching bag, or playing 4player item play are lot of fun, but the actual fighting game mechanics of the game are lacking. I wouldn't go so far as to say smash isn't a fighter, but it IS a party game/fighter. It's a pretty good hybrid which has given it tons of appeal to people who typically don't like fighters.
I have both games. i'll take Soul Calibur 4 any day over SSBM. SSBM is crappy fighting game which has no depth to it. It's basically a button mashing fighting game, requires no skills at all.MaximumDquite the contrary.
SSBB is one of the very few fighting games were button mashing will get you no-where. You'd just be siting still punching the air.
as for me, i prefer brawl because SC games are too complicated to learn all the combos and everything for me. i just like how you can pick up smash and just play it almost as well as a world champion.

I can't believe it... if I ever become a developer these are the kind of people I will have to make games for... :( Everything is now so casual. I mean, Alone in the Dark actually had a feature that lets you skip over parts you don't like like a movie. Soul Calibur is also causal but hardcore compared to other games of today. I guess it just makes sense, why try so hard to learn fake fighting when you can spend that time learning REAL fighting?
Soul Calibur 4: Traditional Fighter
SSBB: A sports game according to Masahiro Sakurai
But seriously, I haven't played SCIV but I've played the 2 and 3. I didn't think SCIII was as great but SCII was fun. My vote goes to SSBB because it's insane .
I'm not even voting in this poll. You might as well compare Oblivion to Fire Emblem and ask which is a better RPG. Or Halo and Pokemon Snap. Or World of Warcraft and Planetside. Or Metroid Prime and Zelda. The list goes on and on. Just because they're the same genre does not mean that they are comparable.Tylendal
fair enough....but there are quite a few people that believe the SSBB is a deep fighting game.

Mostly because they haven't played a game with high/low block since SF2...
I'm amazed. Brawl is actually winning.
I just figured 360 and PS3 fanboys would just pick SC4, and sheep would pick Brawl.
But SW seems slightly logical in this thread. Considering SSBB is better rated, and it is logically "superior".
Brawl was like the exact same game as Melee. "Let's play through classic mode with everyone... again... for a 3rd time... since we did the exact same thing in the previous 2 games". "Yay, let's clear a watered down version of break the targets with every character..." "OH BOY 15 MINUTE MELEE, LET'S DO THIS YET AGAIN." Did anyone even try to collect all the trophies? I got all except I think 3 in Melee, in Brawl though, no idea how many trophies I got, and personally I don't even care, it just seemed like the exact same game as melee but with some new characters. Oh, and that 7 hour "adventure mode" thing that we all only beat so we could unlock the characters faster... (seriously, how lame was that? Unlock all of the characters in like 7 hours? Come on. What happened to actually having objectives to accomplish to unlock characters?)death919
So...you're complaining that it brought back old features from past games, and in the new features they give you the ability to unlock all 15 unlockable characters? I'm guessing you're one of the people who just ran through the story mode to unlock every char, instead of the multiple other ways they could be unlocked, which is probably why you don't know of the "objectives" needed to unlock each char.
But that's besides the point, please don't telll me you honestly believe Melee was the same to Brawl in terms of content, please don't say that.

Metroid Prime and Zelda are both deep Adventures, Fire Emblem and Oblivion are both deep RPGs, and Warcraft and Planetside are both deep MMOs. You must agree that trying to compare those games, simply because they share a genre, would be laughable. SSB and traditional fighters both work with very different strategies.

Thoughts/opinionShinobishyguy
All the sheep will vote SSBB...you should remove it for being lame.
Add in SSBM, far superior.
aside from a bunch of exploitable glitches er moves...how is it superior?Brawl has everything melee has and more.
It just seems toned down to be more casual.
It's far more forgiving
It's also more balanced. In melee the top tiers were dominated only by the fast character such as marth, sheik, fox etc.
In brawl it's more varied.
Meta Knight is balanced?
any worse than fox in melee?plus MK is very easy to knock away.
But Star Fox is a legend, in fact, i think he's underpowered....he beat a giant head for gods sake.
Do not confuse us Fighting Ethusiasts with the generic Fanboys of SW. Whether you like it or hate it anyone who is well into the genre knows that it is indeed a Fighter.I'm seriously sick of all you fighting game 'elitists' trying to tell people which games are fighters, and which aren't.

 thats what i was thinking when i brought my arguement why i though DOA was a hardcore fighting series and some dude came up and said it sounded exactly like brawl. Because everyone knows that brawl has a counter system that theoretically every attack can be countered through high, medium, and low parrys, yea that sounds exactly like brawl. ;)

Well no games are completely the same......just because they don't line up 1:1 doesn't mean you can't compare them. I mean so far we have that they are both in the same genre and they are both considered to be deep fighters on top of that. I think that bears a grounds for comparison. As you said, you don't need to participate. And that is your perogative

how about you mike...which one do you prefer?I think that I prefer Soul Calibur IV a little more. This year is the first time I've played any fighters since I can't remember......and these are the two I've played. I like the characters in SSBB more (I think that's a no-brainer as to why) but there's something for me about pulling off more technical moves and actually learning a character's move and their depth.
Also, surprisingly, the online for SC IV is really good in my experience, and that was not so for SSBB.

Does the creator of the game not describe it in a different way to a fighter?
Meh, it's still a fighter, but no traditional.

I'm just saying. Reviews reflect the quality of a game, they aren't popularity contests or fanboy opinions. I don't always agree with a review, but I except the fact that places like Gamerankings show the quality of a game better then my personal opinion.
[QUOTE="ArisShadows"][QUOTE="nVidiaGaMer"][QUOTE="DeathScape666"]Brawl. The amount of modes and all the extra little additions just make it godly like. But really, it's the combat that kicks the crap out of Soul Calibur IV's. It's different. The characters aren't in close proximity, and there's just a lot of noticeable differences.
Super Smash that hoe!
nVidiaGaMer
Brawl is the worst game I've ever played.
Then you really need to start playing more games if you think that.
I knew this was coming and from someone who gave Brawl a 10! Brawl is terrible and so is the Wii.
I own both games, first off and second off, I consider both being quite excellent games. A tasty orange and a tasty apple, god I love fruit don't I? Whether or not what I rated it in the past means little to what I said. Whether being 9.5 or 10, its a highly polished off game with loads of content over the previous entries. But thats all is meaningless in what I said. You would rate such a high polish game so low is still far from being the worst game ever, so by saying that, I simply stated "You must not played much games if you think that." That is true, either you haven't or you are simply being baise against a game you don't like. Its not crap, you may not like it, but its not the worse game ever. If you can pull up game slike ET and say thats better, you already failed. I may not like God of War, but I wouldn't call it the worse game I ever played. Thats truth, and there is logic behind it.
You simply are just ranting over a game and system you don't like. You have no good rebuttal against what I said, so you pulled a scapegoat "You rated it 10" and tried to ignore what is obvious there. I never called over being better, because apples and oranges can't be compared. I eat both and enjoy both, because they have a great taste. Just because your taste is corresponding to it, doesn't mean the recipe is bad.
[QUOTE="Sergeant343"][QUOTE="Tykain"]SC4, because SSBB is not a fighting game to me. Don't get me wrong tho, SSBB is a great game, But it's like asking what's the best FPS between Halo3 and MGS4.Tykain
MGS4 IS NOT AN FPS AKA A FIRST PERSON SHOOTER. IT IS A STLEATH ACTION 3RD PERSON GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:x
That's the point...
WHAT???!!!?? That makes no since, since both SSBB and SCIV are both fighters, and you are comparing a 3rd person game with a 1st person game. but can you tell me why SSBB isn't a fighting game.
