No, it's still Mario collecting stars, just like every other Mario game. The first Mario was timeless, the 18th or whatever this one is, will most likely be forgotton until they remake it. (You know they will)

Is so obvious you haven't played the game if you think that is only another collecting star game, is like saying Uncharted 2 is just another game with guns.
I dare you to find a game with the concept of SMG so well realized, and with such a magnificent level design.
I believe it's called Super Mario 64. And by the way I have played it. SM64 was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better. SMG hasn't really done anything to change gaming history, it's just another platformer. Sure a good looking one, but it's still a platformer.
 As much as i love SM64, the level design is not nearly as amazing as SMG (sure, is a 1996 game), still, i'm not talking about how it looks, sorry, but you haven't played it if you believe is just another platform game, you may like it or not, but when SMG put some of the best levels ever in a videogame you have to recognize that will leave a huge mark in gaming history as how creativity and not visuals can make a timeless classic.
