What is your console of choice and why?

For me personally it's the Xbox One, yes its GPU is not as powerful as the PlayStation 4 but the disparity seems to be minimal in actual practice. In terms of games there is just much more that speaks to me as a gamer than what I see flooding the market elsewhere. Also platform evolution is a big thing for me and I see Microsoft doing a hell of a lot more in that regard, Sony seems rather stagnant just riding the wave of what they currently are instead of bettering or changing it.

Sure there's a bunch of Japanese games like Tales of Zestiria and Disgaea 5, but those just don't do it for me, where are the actual games? Coming out next year? Also I don't feel that Sony is doing enough to keep me interested in their brand, I just don't see the unique powerhouse that used to exist in the 90's and early 00's, it's just not there anymore.

People bash Microsoft for its rehashes of things but I see that as consistency, things you know you're going to like and what you're going to get from them, plus some off the wall and random things like Sunset Overdrive and ReCore.

What are you honestly happy with and why?

The PlayStation 4. It's the perfect machine. It's got great games, it's cheap, the controller is nice (though I'm still disappointed at all the hype), the exclusive lineup is great, and when I buy a game on the PS4, I know I am getting the very best possible version of it short of building a gaming PC, which I am not interested in doing right now.

Plus also, I really just like how well integrated the PlayStation ecosystem is, if you the PS4, PS Vita, and PS3 together, the entire thing really shines, and that's one reason I stick with PlayStation now.

Xbox One for me....the main reason is I have enjoyed the exclusives more than the PS4'S and have a bunch more to look forward to....the other reason is the functions it brings to the table, I use the console as MS intended it to be used. I use it for games, watching tv, apps because everything is so well integrated. I like having the Xbox One control my whole media center. And yes kinect works great for all of that.

why: last time there weren't even better looking and playing games for the PC, though it had some that were still great at the time. those 2 consoles just had more advanced 3D effects and colors than most games the PC had to offer at the time. also more variable game types.

sure if i could've afforded the 3DO it would've been my top on the list.

That's hard to say truthfully, as I play things on various systems.

I guess right now I mainly use my PC and 3DS though, but my Xbox One and Wii U also get a decent amount of love, and I'm sure once I buy a PS4 for Persona 5, then it will get quite a bit of use as well.

PS , the games i like are on it.

Xbox One the games I like to play are on it, my friends are on it. I also really dig the Kinect features for TV and apps and snapping. Nothing better than chilling out in the Mortal Kombat X lobby on a Sunday having football snapped on the side and running some fights here and there!

PS4: because it gives me my fav fighters and JRPGs with a controller I like more.

WiiU is very close since Zelda is my all time fav series but until Zelda U is out then PS4 wins.

They all kinda suck.

Xbone. It has a more appealing lineup and I find it better for multiplayer and coop games. I'm not a snob so graphics and resolution aren't as important as game play.

It also has the best controller by far.

Am I the only one who gets REALLY sore hands when using the XBONE controller?

Everytime I use it I come out in pain.

@davem1992: probably not. I'm sure plenty of people with dainty, sensitive hands have that problem.

@mems_1224: It's a shame cause I love Rare Replay and Gears Ultimate but I have sore hands after every play.

Although I mostly only play on PC these days..., if I had to choose, it would be Playstation right now. Because it's the only console that gets full Japanese 3rd party support, and I still like Japanese games somewhat (They really need to step it up this gen...). I agree with you though, too many people give Xbone shit, as it does offer a great selection of games as well. I know a bunch of cows like to use the "Japanese exclusives" argument to justify their purchase, but lets be honest..., most of those games are shit...other than a select few. Other than that, they both offer damn near the same lineup of games...

Also, the whole "weak gpu" argument is corny as well. All of their gpu's are weak compared to a PC. So power should not even be a focal point within your arguments. At the end of the day, it's all about which console's games and features appeal to you the most. Nothing more, nothing less. Non of these companies are your friends, they don't care about you lol.

The real problem of the xbone was it's reveal & launch. It was one of the most horrible reveals I've ever witnessed. But they've gotten rid of the cancer that brought the brand down, and have done a complete 180. Have to at least give them credit for that.

@davem1992: Not sure why. I have delicate, smallish palms and Xbone controller is considerably more lightweight and more ergonomic than the 360 one. It never tires my hands.

@Salt_The_Fries: I have big hands so I get really sore hands using small handhelds (sole reason I bought a New 3DS XL) and certain controllers.

The PlayStation 4. Its literally THE perfect system to own and game on this generation! the verity of games it has is pure awesomeness, the controller is amazing, the UI is clean and easy to understand and oh my god the features this console provide are pure addiction i am simply addicted to the Share feature AND Share Factory literally my YouTube channel growing because of epic recording ability of my PS4 AND ease of recording, editing and uploading directly to YouTube at anytime!

PlayStation4 is is just epicness everywhere you look at it, it has JRPG's support all over the place, it has THE BEST 3rd party support and 3rd party exclusivity all over the place from games like destiny (literally all the exclusive content are on PlayStation, destiny fans on xbox cry on the bungie forums all the time lel) to call of duty to star wars and more! PS+ oh boy thats a whole different story! owning PS3, Vita and PS4 thats literally like 6 to 7 games to get every single month.

PS4 is the gamers choice for gaming this generation.

I have an xbone, i like it because it has everything on there that i need in a all round entertainment unit, it has an exciting line up of exclusives, the controller fits my hand like it was custom made. Xboxlive is great with great game giveaways and discounts. I'm not fussed about the unnoticeable power difference between it and the ps4, but one day i wouldn't mind getting a ps4.

Gotten tired of my PS4 and currently not into much AAA games but I'm waiting to play UC Coll (never played UC1) and UC4.

Have an X1 and also gonna try H5 and RoTR but I'm not feeling "hype".

Finished BB and I'm not feeling the DLC.

I'd rather play most of the AAA games on my PC but like I said, atm, I'm not much into AAA.

I have all 3 ... would quite happily sell both the PS4 and Xbox one .... should of waited until 4 years in when they actual have some purpose/value.

I care about the games and playing them the best way possible. I don't care about any allegiance to a console platform as they are inferior to PC. The consoles are incapable of delivering the all around experience with max graphics, framerate and resolution. I would never even touch the consoles if it were not for exclusives.

Xbone's lineup is garbage and your controller is so bad MS had to build a replacement. What an awful console. :)

I got a Wii U to watch the Xbox One and PS4 dust settle, I was split but went with Xbox One and I feel it was the right choice for me in that I can play the games I want that are not on PS4. Wasn't an easy decision though because the PS4 has games I want that won't be on Xbox One, so I'll have to get a PS4 eventually.

Xbox One is my console of choice right now for multiplats given I don't have much of a choice at the moment, might still be that way when I get a PS4, maybe not, we'll see.

Honestly, and I'm not trying to cop out here, I've got to say having all three of the consoles is my "console of choice."

The Playstation 4's UI is my favorite. I think I prefer the controller of the Xbox One most of all, but batteries suck and I love the Wii U Pro's controller in terms of life in the battery. I enjoy the Gamepad on the Wii U as well, from off-screen play to an additional screen with bonus information. And there are plenty more pros and cons between each.

But in the end, it doesn't even matter.

It all comes down to the games for me. This generation has yet to live up to last generation or the 6th gen, but I've been enjoying it a lot because I've been able to play on all three consoles. If I want to play some games that I know I love, I've had Halo: The Master Chief Collection, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, and The Last of Us: Remastered. Upcoming games in those series are Halo 5: Guardians, Uncharted 4: A Thieves' End, and The Legend of Zelda U, all should be coming very soon!

Not just looking at my favorite series of games, I've had Super Smash Bros U, Super Mario 3D World, and Mario Kart 8 on Wii U that have given me loads of time. On PS4, Grand Theft Auto V, Bloodborne, and inFamous: Second Son. Finally, even though I've had my Xbox One the least amount of time, I've already had wonderful experiences with Sunset Overdrive, the Rare Replay Collection, and The Witcher 3.

I mean, my top most anticipated looks like this (off the top of my head):

2. Kingdom Hearts III (PS4/X1)
3. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (PS4)
4. Persona 5 (PS4)
5. The Legend of Zelda U (Wii U & probably NX)

8. Mass Effect Andromeda (PS4/X1)
9. Star Wars: Battlefront (PS4/X1)
10. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

Lots of games on every which console. Many could scoff at my list for any number of reasons, but it's what I'll enjoy playing. And it's spread out across all three platforms (Wii U getting least amount of love but it's already received a lot of games I've enjoyed). So say what you will, but I have to stick with having all three is my "console of choice."

I don't have a current gen console, only a shitty laptop where I play neo geo and pc engine classics. This is the same laptop I used to play MGSV but the PS4 is my console of choice because it's better than anything really.

I went the XB1, purely and simply because I'm a racing game fan. The XB1 has 3 racing game exclusives to Sony's 1, and all 3 are a LOT better than Sony's 1. Lets be honest Sony has dropped the ball big time for it's racing gamers.

I really like my gamecube

It's easy to carry along with you on a daily basis and Mario Kart Double Dash is still a barrel of fun !

I stuck with the Xbox this gen because its controller isn't ass and its online service actually works.

Those are far more important to me than negligible differences in graphics that only Digital Foundry can pick up on.

Best choice is none for now, or a wii u if you really like nintendo games

If Nintendo had released a proper 8th gen system I probably would have picked that. Xbox is lacking that killer app (Halo doesn't interest me and neither does Forza) at the moment + MS is still thinking that 1080p doesn't matter. Sony offered the most powerful console at the time (still is) + I happen to like the exclusives it has now aaaand most of my friends have the system too, so it was a no brainer.

PS4

More of its exclusives interest me and it has the more vast game lineup out of the consoles. Being the more powerfull one is also a nice bonus but it wasnt the reason why I bought it. Sony exclusives (GoW, Team ICO, Uncharted, Souls (Demon's/Bloodborne), Killzone) were always up my alley. Oh and it receives many more Japanese games aswell

In terms of consoles, xbox, fifa is my most played game on any console because of ultimate team and for a number of reasons its best played on xbox, also ea access is pretty sweet and gwg havent been too terrible.

Controllers, xbox live, achievements, friends etc... These arent really worth mentioning reasons to have a preference for a console in my opinion, unless psn was really as bad as some people say it is here which I can safely say its not otherwise people just wouldnt pay for it.

The ps4 is pretty good too and I wont mention pc here because you said console.

I have to admit though Im clueless when it comes to the wiiuu.

Either way to me its all about the games and the xbox is my preference right now, because of the games.

WiiU. I grew up with Nintendo, so I just love all the franchises and unique exclusives. It's fun for me to collect all the WiiU exclusives and other games for it as well. I love it along with the 3DS.

PS4 is great and pretty much equal with its exclusives for me, but the nostalgia and Nintendo factor put the WiiU ahead.

My fat ps3 is my console of choice. Plays ps1 and ps2 games. So I have a massive library of games. Ps3 games are cheap now. Metal gear solid Rev is only 4 quid on amazon. The online is free and millons are still online with it, I use my camera a lot and it has Pro, Cf, sd and mini sd card slots. Have about 20 games im still yet to finish plus 10 more I wanna buy. Normally I get consoles at launch but right now I see no point in getting any of the new consoles.

@jcrame10: I agree the bumpers are really the worst thing Ive ever seen in a controller, its just really bad, they can get faulty after a while too which is terrible and they are just really uncomfortable to hold down, seriously try holding down those bumpers for a minute... Its just terrible.

All that being said I like everything else about the controller, offset analog sticks and the triggers are really what a controller should be like, at least comparing to the ds4.

Battery life is also a plus, you can use for hour straight and itll last you a good while, also like that I can use aa batteries on it, compared to the ds4 where you need to recharge it after a couple of hours of use, the xbox controller just keeps going with either rechargable batteries or the plug and play pack batteries will last you 2-3 days, before you recharge it overnight.

@marano94: dual shock 4 normally lasts about 7 or 8 hours for me.

It's sturdy. Large handles, buttons and everything feel nice. Feels well made and not cheap like the ps3 controller. Easily the best controller made since the GameCube. Wii U pro controller is nice too

@jcrame10: Really at this point its really just preference there are pros and cons to both controllers, that being said I havent tried many controllers apart from the previous dualshocks and I believe the snes and sega controllers so the stuff we get now really feels improved.

Im curious to see what nintendo has in store for their next controller, I mean what kinda gimmick are they gonna bring to the table this time?

I'm just sticking with my PC these days. I also have a 3DS, but I never play it.
