What is your console of choice and why?

The current UI will be no more come November, it's being overhauled entirely with the Windows 10 update, and for Preview members it's this month sometime or early next month.

I fucking hope so. I can't find what I want, when I want, so many menu's...

Wii U, the best exclusives and PC for everything else.

XBOX ONE:

1. I prefer the controllers. All Xbox generation controllers, including the under appreciated "DUKE", they've never disappointed me, in terms of comfort and ergonomics, in my opinion.
2. Xbox consoles have never disappointed me
3. I prefer the stable Online Service. The best console online integration for consoles.
4. I prefer the Exclusives and upcoming lineup for 2016. I've enjoyed the exclusives a lot more than what's offered on other platforms.
5. Strong 3rd party support, especially in areas I enjoy.
6. Windows 10/X1 integration has me curious.
7. It's Western Centric. I prefer the style of games. This isn't the NES/SMS/SNES/Genesis era anymore, a time where Japanese games studios/developers had flourished. A time where I actually cared about those Japanese studios that made Double Dragon, Contra, Castlevania, Final Fight, R-Type, etc. Those type of genres are long gone or have taken a back seat. I don't care about JRPGs, and it seems this genre is the only, really representation of modern blockbuster Japanese gaming today. Not my cup of tea.

For me it's the PS4, more powerful hardware and now that i have a 2TB PS4, i am much happier, the 500gb storage was my only issue with PS4 and now that i rectified that, it's a pure gaming machine with top notch PSN games and exclusives.

The G.U.I. differences between the two are night and day, the X1 G.U.I. is so conveluted and antiquated even something as simple as installing a disc based game and it's update is so much faster and smoother on PS4 it's amazing, also accessing your friends list or moving around in settings to change something....just all of it is easier and smoother on PS4.

i will admit microsoft has made huge strides with their hardware and games, and they even have an updated G.U.I. coming in november, i just think it's too little too late, the Sony horse is off and running and there is no catching it.

As far as exclusives go, i've always preferred Sony to Microsoft, Uncharted, God of War, Last of Us, Ratchet & Clank, Helldivers, MLB The Show, Bloodborne....and so on.

Good topic. I started playing video games on the Atari 2600 when I was a kid. In comparison to the Atari 2600, all of the consoles are amazing now and any complaints are just nit-picking. Not that there was anything wrong with the Atari 2600, but the video game hobby has improved every generation. All of the companies have and continue to make great contributions to gaming. However, the Wii U is my favorite console because it plays Nintendo games like Mario Kart 8, New Super Mario Bros. Wii U, Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, Super Smash Bros. Wii U, Wii Sports Club, and many others. The Wii Remotes and all of my Wii games work with the Wii U, but the Wii U also has the Gamepad and the Pro Controller for different ways to play games. The Wii U is a great console for a retro gamer like me.

Not 100% sure... But the cramping in my hands seemed to be worse when I had to use the triggers a lot. So maybe it's to do with my long fingers, and the placement of the triggers on the DS4. But weirdly I don't have the same problem with the XB1 controller, which is a main reason why it's my only console at present.

It's the bumpers and triggers I think, my hands get VERY cramped trying to reach back to them and I have big hands so it hurts every time.

Kinda wish I was as lucky as you, whenever I play Rare Replay I have a blast but come out in alot of pain :(

It could have been literally anything shown in this video, any UI, this one, another one, hell it could have been a play on the PlayStation 4 UI for Xbox One and you would say this same dumb shit still just because it's Xbox One.

But I will always hold the Blades UI to be the best UI for a console ever lol.

Mine is PlayStation 4. I have always preferred Sony's systems.

Playstation 4.

Pros:

- Powerful and easy to dev for hardware design

- Full thist party support

- 100% focus on core gaming

- Native 1080p for almost every game (main reason i jumped early to current gen)

- Finally a confortable dualshock controller

- Nice share and broadcast options

- PS Plus is really nice. Since launch i already have something like 70 free games. Some of them are really good

- User friendly console (no mandatory peripherals, not always online, no region lock, plays used games, etc)

Cons:

- 500GB and even 1TB is ridiculously low considering the size of most games

- It doesn't play Halo, Forza, Gears, Mario, Rare games, etc...

All in all, it's the natural evolution of the 360 and the opposite to a PS3, so i felt at home.

The PlayStation 4....................the more powerful console and have the best games.

Xbox One. I own a PS4 and have enjoyed what I play on it. But I don't apologize for using or wanting my console of choice to do more than play games and the X1 is the center on my wall unit. Then there are game series I love like Halo, Gears, Fable. I have fun playing these with friends. Which brings me to who am I playing with. Best friends from the US Army are on Xbox Live so I enjoy playing with them more than anyone in the world. And like you @nyadc I just don't care about Tales, Persona, FF, Disgaea or other JRPG games. Just not my cup of tea.

Hard to beat that rock solid factual articulation. PS4 is just the best this gen.

Sony since I can remember has always been about allowing developers to try creative things, admittedly sometimes it works other times it doesn't.

As a gamer/consumer I'm glad they do.

They are all pretty bad, but Wii-U complements my PC very nicely. Getting an Xbone or PS4 would just give me 1 or 2 interesting exclusives. The rest would be worse versions of PC games.

Though in general I agree, I wouldn't say gaming is better as a whole now

These days we have timesinks (some would call them "games") designed around getting people addicted and spending way more than they would like through microtransactions. Blinding people of the real value of money by using marketing stuff like "Simpson dollars"

We have an entire sub-group of games designed entirely around nickle and diming people. These games are not designed around "fun" (like say: Nintendo games) they are designed around "screw you, give me money now"

Thats a really good update. Xbox one is starting to impress me more & more these days. Microsoft has been busy

Not because the WiiU is good, it isn't, it sucks. But because the disgusting majority of things I want to play on the PS4 or Xbox One (both of which I own) I would rather play on my PC, because contrary to the opinions of ill-informed people. Yes my PC is going to play the better version of all those games, especially the retail triple A stuff. Going from glorious 60 frames to 30 frames is a fucking struggle these days.

I mean I can't play Bayonetta 2 and The Wonderful 101 on my PC (god I wish I could), I can't play Affordable Space Adventures, can't play Smash, can't play Splatoon. And all in all as creatively bankrupt as Nintendo can be, I'll take their first party over the other 2 first party. To me it's not even close. Naughty Dog is cool, but they are one studio.

Sony. They always deliver varied exclusives plus all of the 3rd party heavies. Don't care for shooters or online multiplayer, so Sony's console fits my gaming tastes far better than the others.

I did too, but I eventually...you know...grew up.

PlayStation 4. I prefer Sony first party exclusives and I like the diversity of PlayStation library. The power difference is just a bonus to lord over lems this generation.

I own them all, but right now, and since I bought it in March of 2014, my X1 gets more use than my PS4. Games like Forza 5, PvZ:GW, Dead Rising 3, SSO, Forza Horizon 2, MCC, Smite, Neverwinter, Titanfall, CoD:AW, Gears Ultimate, and Rare Replay keep my gaming needs pretty filled. Plus it's where most of my friends are gaming.

Next year my PS4 will get more love, once Sony starts showing me some love for buying the console and/or some of those JRPG's start finally releasing. MS is trying right now, and it shows with the effort they are putting into the X1. Quantum Break, Crackdown, Gears 4, Scalebound, Sea of Thieves, Recore, and Fable Legends.

I'm not saying the PS4 doesn't have a good lineup over the next year, but up until now, the X1 has more games I want to play.

Whichever one has the game i want to play on it at the time. My "choice" changes depending on what games are out. My game buying guide is simple.

1) exclusives, if a game is exclusive i but it for that system

2A) online game (multiplat) - buy it for which ever system I have the most friends playing that game on

2B) online game with no friends getting it - buy it for X1 due to better online

3A) SP only game - buy it for the system with "extra content" (unless it's a FPS then it's X1 because controller)

3B) SP only game with no extra content - Buy it for X1 because better controller

For this gen, it's pretty much been the X1 i spent most of my time on except the 1st month that rocket league was out, then PS4 dominated my time, but I've grown bored of it so it's been X1 again

This may come to a shock to all, but this gen, it's actually the Xbox One.

While I don't like the direction Phil Spencer has taken, nor do I like how underpowered and unprepared the Xbox one was launching, it's still a unique console in the sense of being definitively Xbox. (which is less definitive by the hour)

Now, I know the PS4's a better console and superior in every way, but I can't forget all the good memories an Xbox has brought me with the OG and 360. Still, I'm not going to lay off the Xbox one because it has the potential to be a great console, but Phil and Microsoft are twiddling their thumbs where the sun doesn't shine so...
