I have to go with ToonTown because I feel that the turn-based combat is one of the best, ever. It being online is even better. Don't let the cartoony art style turn you off. It is one gem of a game! If anyone wants me to tell them what this game is like, I'd be more than happy to give you a brief description on how the game plays.

I had a lot of fun with RuneScape back in the day. 1300 total level, 70 thieving level, and 88 combat level... Sadly, I can never go back to this game because it kind of... bores the hell out of me now. It's just way too basic, and I am surprised that I got so incredibly addicted to it.

These two games will stay in my heart forever. They are both my most played games of all time by like twenty times the amount of the third most played game by me. Hell, make that one hundred times! Maybe not that high, but you get the idea.

World of Warcraft is okay for me. I played it first on December 31, 2006 for half an hour. I got to level 3, fell off a ledge and died, and didn't know what to do. My little brother got interested in it after I showed him The Wrath of the Lich King trailer, so we downloaded the trial version. I am at level 6 right now as an Undead Warrior (uses sword). I'm almost at level 7. I have to say the classes are terribly unbalanced, because I found the mage to be so much more powerful and easier to level up. I kind of regret not picking that class, but I still have a level 3 one. Then two other level 3 guys, and a level 1 guy.

What say you?

World of Warcraft by far, I've tried getting into Guild Wars (terrible) and Warhammer (good but just not WoW level) and I gotta say that WoW is pretty much THE MMO that I will play until Blizzard's next MMO. The only flaw with it is that it is too end game focused which makes it undesirable for me to level up a 2nd toon, in fact I consider the game to "start" once you hit max lvl, but yeah it's definitely the best MMO I've played.

Agreed, Toontown? Is the TC serious? Everquest was my favorite, and I refuse to vote until it's in there.

Although WoW was a close second and it was a better game overall, the community in EQ was the best and that's probably the biggest aspect in an MMO.

EDIT: Also, TC didn't know what do to when he died in WoW? That's sad considering the little map thing tells you which way your corpse is and it's the only thing highlighted... Not too mention, you start in front of a huge ghost thing that you can talk too and it'll give you instructions...

WoW

all other mmorpg's suck period(.)

psn_Jaimzl

Quoted for emphasis.

Most MMOs practically share copy/paste game play design and don't bother building on what was established when their games were released. Instead, they rest on their little gimmick, hoping that the community will regulate themselves until the next "fix it all" patch comes months down the road, only to further break the game to the point that another "fix it all" patch is in order, which calls for an expansion instead.

The MMO genre, in general, is probably the worst genre in gaming since the good/bad ratio is so off.

WoW is a shell of what UO was, and anyone that played UO back in the day will feel the same way.

Three things that made City of Heroes awesome: The character creation, the concept, and the events. Outside of that, you are looking at poor instance design, poor PvP, poor graphics, poor combat, poor music, poor variety, forced second faction with the villains, and more.

I have full confidence that Champions Online will be what City of Heroes should have been to begin with, however.

I would pick EverQuest. But my second would be Star Wars Galaxies, too.... for a duration. Soon, the riffraff began to filter in with the d00dspeak, and it began to decay. /sniff

Even though I currently play WoW, I would have to say Final Fantasy XI was my favorite, it was HEAVILY story driven and I loved the story, I quit and deleted my character for personal reasons, than when I had the chance to start playing again, they couldn't restore my character, which was my fault for deleting in the first place, so I just picked up WoW and started playing that, which I don't play much anymore, but this time I didn't delete my characters.

That's cool, I didn't like the camera of EQ, but no worries. EQ was a groundbreaking game as well when it came out. I was too busy playing UO at the time to appreciate it.

I just don't see the attraction of WoW, it was actually a step backwards IMO. No housing, no player loot, I can't take stuff out of my backpack and throw it on the ground, or hide it because I'm carrying too much. No boats, no player vendors, no player looting, no crazy scams, the crappy pre-made characters, can't fight while mounted, no guild wars... I can go on and on.

I was one 75 job away from maat hat, full sky set, lots of sea items, killed LoD often if that tells you how much I played it :P

I quit when I moved a wile back. my brother has my char now. I had a fairly high scholar job too

sold my EQ char (60 war, 50somthing druid and a bunch of others I think it was) a little after the frog race expansion was released.

Um, no. Lord of the Rings: Online is arguably the best MMO out at the moment. The only reason it keeps getting skimmed is simply because the PvP isn't as hardcore as the other games, and that's because the Tolkien Estate won't allow PvP to change the outlook of Middle Earth. But if you thought Blizzard was generous with updates, you should see what Turbine does with LotR:O. Their frequent mandatory updates are seriously game-changing. So much so, in fact, that the latest retail expansion was seen as a bit of a let down; essentially a "glorified" Turbine update.

Why would you post Toontown and Runescape in the poll instead of real MMO's that are actually fun.

Anyway WoW is my favorite, I've been playing for about a year now and I'm totally sucked in. HOWEVER, I still think Planetside is the best MMO idea ever. If that game had managed to crush it's insurmountable lag and bugs, I would probably never stop playing ever.

lmao! I remember doing that but I dropped 10 plat (I know, it was early on) but it fell in a snow pile and i couldn't pick it up with my other char.. I was pissed

I got stuck in a dark tunnel one because I had no light source (barbarian = blind). I spent a hour in there till a guy came along.. I said "WAITTTTT!!!!!".

He stopped and I told him my problem... needless to say he couldn't stop laughing at me. Yet he helped me get the hell out of there and get a wisp orb thingy.

So much good times with EQ. I could go on all night :P

I agree, I think what makes WoW the best are the unique environments that the developers put effort into making. In every other MMO I've played it feels like the developers put no effort into making the world, it's like they took a field, copied a pasted it a bunch of times, threw in some enemies, some towns and maybe even some hills here and there.

what other MMO have you played?

That's cool, I didn't like the camera of EQ, but no worries. EQ was a groundbreaking game as well when it came out. I was too busy playing UO at the time to appreciate it.

I just don't see the attraction of WoW, it was actually a step backwards IMO. No housing, no player loot, I can't take stuff out of my backpack and throw it on the ground, or hide it because I'm carrying too much. No boats, no player vendors, no player looting, no crazy scams, the crappy pre-made characters, can't fight while mounted, no guild wars... I can go on and on.

ROFL!!! Man, I can remember hiding a backpack full of HIGH level loot, for one of my other characters to pick up! I would be biting my nails hoping someone didnt find it before I switched out, lol...

Those are one of the reasons I liked the EQ community so much. If something like that would have happened in WoW, that person that came along probably would have just laughed and left you there.

When FFXI was first starting out was probably my favorite moment/time playing a MMO.I'm currently enjoying my DK on WoW but Kalgan (lead dev) is destroying that MMO very fast.

My favourite of all time was definitely Star Wars Galaxies. For a significant majority, it's the community that make the MMO, with features being secondary. Star Wars Galaxies was not only filled with Star Wars geeks, but they actually ROLE-PLAYED. They embraced their characters, they weren't actively looking to ignite their force sensitive slots. It was really, really awesome. Second favourite is definitely LotRO. It's pretty much everything WoW is, except without the annoying demographic which pollutes the servers. So sad that I know a few people who actually love ganking others, and make it their entire mission on MMO. But that's what you get when you're touting 11 million players.FrozenLiquid

i wholeheartedly agree with this statement.

btw tc mages are not OP at all once you hit level 20ish you will see how much easier it is to level as a warrior than a mage(assuming you specced arms/fury and not protection). hunters and warlocks take the cake for easiest to level though.

UO by far.

WoW is a shell of what UO was, and anyone that played UO back in the day will feel the same way.

SWG would be second, (Not counting the crap it became in later years)

I played UO, but I didnt like the camera angle as much. Thats what led me to EQ.

UO was awesome. All of the stuff in bold is why I really, REALLY, hope that Darkfall turns out well, they're trying to go back to the UO roots.

I would pick EverQuest. But my second would be Star Wars Galaxies, too.... for a duration. Soon, the riffraff began to filter in with the d00dspeak, and it began to decay. /sniff

I didn't encounter that problem until NGE which was in 2005 I think.

those damn instant jedi running everywhere while i had just played a whole year to get one
