Judging by various polls and threads I've read over the last few weeks, it seems that the overwhelming majority believe GTAIV is overrated, but most also think that it is a great game, just not deserving of the 10.
I personally think it deserves a 9.5. When people talk about the game, they don't really give any reasons for why they don't think it deserves the 10. What is your problem (or what are your problems) with GTAIV?
I'm weird in that I play GTA games somewhat exclusively for 2 years after release. That's how long the latest 3 major ones lasted me. Yeah, 2 years. I really like GTAIV but I'm pretty sure this one won't last me as long. The realism aspect of the game is fantastic, but I don't get why they cut out aspects that increase the longevity of the game, after the story is finished.
Simple things like car customisation, or property buying etc shouldn't have been cut out, and there's really no excuse for why they were. It's not like either are unrealistic. I feel like Rockstar deliberately played it safe this time around due to the game being on next-gen systems, more than 1 console at the time of release. I think they thought that a new fanbase would come in so they cut down on the risk taking as to not alienate them.
I also feel like they cut out extra content to intice gamers to buy the DLC when it arrives. I think this will backfire though simply because it's taken too long for the DLC to be released, and I really doubt people will still be playing the game come 2009. I would be pretty pissed if the extra content turned out to be something like property buying or car customisation... I mean, why should we have to pay extra for something like that?
What are your problems with GTAIV? Do you agree/disagree with anything I wrote? What do you guys think? I really hope this thread gets a discussion going cause I want to hear lots of differing opinions on this.
