In terms of the more popular exlcusive and multi-plat game genres, such as Action/Adventure, Shooters, WRPG, Fighting, Sports, and JRPG's? What well-known quality exclusives in those genres does the PC offer over consoles? I understand when it comes to Sims and RTS's PC would outshine, but majority rule that the game genres I listed are the more exciting ones this gen. Is the extra $300 - $1000 more on PC parts over a console worth AA, 1920x1080 at 35FPS+, and mods? Games like Crysis 2, Dead Space 2, and DA2 look fine on console running at 30FPS, w/ no AA, at 720p and upscaled 1080p.

Enlighten me aka come at me bro!!!! 8)

I'd say for action/adventure, fighting, and sports, you'd be best off having the consoles, JRPG's as well (Unless you know Japanese).

"Games like Crysis 2, Dead Space 2, and DA2 look fine on console running at 30FPS"

Both of those games struggle to keep a steady 30fps and usually dip into the low 20's. Talk about low standards.:P

haha yeah and framerate is huge. After playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 at 60 FPS (more like 90) I will not accept anything less than 60 for BF3 :P.

The Witcher and Stalker are reason enough. Plus Sony and MS will not be releasing a new console for 4 to 5 years, the advantages will become more apparent as time goes on.

I cant go back to the 360 version of bc2 after playing it on pc. A huge bump in resolution, framerate and responsiveness almost makes it an entirely different experience. Not to mention players more concerned about the objective at hand instead of their k/d ratio.

"Look fine" is subjective, one persons "fine" is another persons "ugly".

For example I couldn't play at 1280x720, hence the upgrades over the years. 1920x1200 at 30-40fps is fine for me. But there will be people who are also happy with my res, but demand 60fps. Then there are people who play at 2560x1600, and people who play on three monitors put together.

Arguing "It looks fine to me" isn't going to sit well with everyone because "fine" is subjective. Even console gamers, with arguments between whether HD and sub-HD is a big deal.

I can't believe that people aren't talking about HL2. I know it's a game from 2004, but I find it to be a must-have because of the Japan-developed SMOD.

Additionally, there's also STALKER, a post-apocalyptic hardcore singleplayer FPS where you're as squishy as well, you.

Oh, and let's not forget about Killing Floor, a co-op survival horror where you fight against genetically engineered "zombies" while hearing your teammates talk like stereotypical British people

People tend to hate a higher upfront cost. Hell, most of the 360 owners have spent upwards of $200 for xbox live alone this gen. Add in more expensive games and the price gap is smaller than most misinformed people think.

Diablo III

Battlefield 3 (64 players)

The Witcher 2

Max Payne 3

Skyrim (Extended Play with MODS)

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Guild Wars 2

Star Wars The Old Republic

I cannot wait for Diablo 3, its replay value is measured in years just as BF3 will be.

Freedom. Meaning I can choose if a want to use mouse or controller. I can mod my games, meaning full conversion mods or just small mods that adds better weapons sounds, new skins, better graphics etc. Then of course there's the graphics and framerate increase

If you cut out the games that the PC is good at and downplay the significance of its graphics then it will appear to have less advantages over consoles.

I'll just list some personal favourite games that make me glad to own a PC:

Exclusives:

STALKER trilogy

Crysis 1 + Warhead

ArmA II + Operation Arrowhead

Age of Empires III + expansions

Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason

The Witcher

The Void

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Shattered Horizon

Old Battlefield games

Men of War: Assault Squad

Some multiplat games that are considerably better on PC for whatever reason (noticeably better visuals, official updates, mods, extra features):

Metro 2033

Just Cause 2

Half-Life 2

Team Fortress 2

Oblivion

Especially the exclusives may not always be the big budget blockbusters you asked for, but a lot of them are among my top 10 all-time favourites games. So I'd say owning a PC is definitely worth the extra investment, especially when you consider that games are infinitely cheaper on PC.

  • Mods. I don't think some even comprehend the vastness of what mods can really do to a game. Not only could it make it look ageless, mods can also be made to make entire new games. For example, you buy one game with mod support, you've bought a hundreat, easily.
  • Much higher resolutions, 60 FPS, higher details.
  • Superior multiplats (bad ports can be modded anyway)
  • Variety of controllers, such as kb/mouse, a wheel, joystick, gamepad.
  • The choice to either hook it up to a TV, or play the games on your monitor.
  • More exclusives.
  • No reason to buy games from stores, downloading takes like 10 minutes, and any game is just a click away. Equaling simplicity, no reason for disks either.
  • More.. everything.

==========================>FREEDOM. Complete and utter freedom.

and TONS more that I just dont remember at the moment. Not to mention 99.9% of the time multiplat games are quite a bit better on PC.

NaveedLife

Gothic series >>>>>> any western RPG, by far.

And they are also exclusive to the PC.

Another thing which I like about PC gaming is the underappreciated notebook gaming.

It might not have the same graphical potential as the desktop, but it's certainly a better alternative to consoles in my opinion, and you can pretty much bring your games to school.

Personally I like the fact that you have this tool at your disposal that just happens to game as well. Obviously we all have a computer, why not just make it play games as well? On the games side of things I love the user made content for games especially games like Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Battlefield and so on.

Sometimes its great to be able to take an already good game and make it even better much like Oblivion and Fallout 3. Of course the back catalog is sweet as well and even still have user communities out there to suppor them with mods to this day like Doom and Duke 3D.

Of course certain types of games don't work that well but there are solutions to make them work. Take NBA 2k11 for instances, I have that on my PC but attatched one of my unused PS3 controllers to it so I could play it easier then the keyboard.

Not to mention out games are cheaper usually and even if they are the same price chances are that other outlets online have it for cheaper anyways so you just have to look. Like i got Bad Company 2 Limited Edition for 35 bucks when it came out.

If you are playing DA2 like me, on PC I have 8x AA and hi-res textures. The latter isn't available to console, so it looks dull.

Without mods, most games have limited replayability or gameplay issues I hate but can't correct.

Going from console to PC is like adding another dimension to your games.

You don't need to have 10 000 x 10 000 mega hyper HD on PC to enjoy their games, there are tons of "small" PC games that simly don't exist in consoles, last year i got American McGee's Alice and King's Bounty and i loved both.

Recently i got Recettear: An item's tale shop and it' fantastic, and guess what, my gaming PC is really outdated.

Bottom line, Cheap PC not always means bad PC games.

If you combine all 3 consoles and go up against the PC you may be able to get some good exclusives to combat the PC exclusives. On their own I don't think any console even comes close to the PC. You want exclusives? How about the Stalker Series? The Witcher? DOW2 (as much an ARPG as an RTS), Amnesia? These are just a few I have played recently. Of course most PC gamers love Strategy games, that is why I'm into PC. I personally hate the look of 90% of games on console. Blurry, jagged and jerky. Have you ever seen a direct comparison of games such as Borderlands or GTA IV on console and PC? I have, i own them on both systems. It's laughable how bad some games look, and play on consoles.

The #1 reason for me is that I used to hate how console communities moved quickly from one game to the next. Its like a fast food community always going for the hott new thing and games that are just a few months old can quickly dry up online and feel sad and empty. On the other hand my pc gaming friends on vent have been with me for 5+ years and the communities for games such as Dragons age that have mods still have healthy amounts of people playing and modding to interact with. A game in particular that is pc only and has these qualities in spades is Starcraft 2, 10 years down the road and hundreds of thousands if not millions will still be playing, there are new video's every week by Day9 and Huskystarcraft, and then there is the whole Korean scene. The community building custom games have web sites, you can really get into the whole thing and engross youreself in what feels like something thats alive, not just some rude kids there until next months game comes out.

So the majority rule? is that why most MMO's outsell most of those genre's exclusives? is that why the most popular non-bundle exclusive (as in not wii-sports) is World of Warcraft? MMO is the most popular and most played genre and has 0 representation on consoles, hate to break it to you like this.

Wow I guess everyone's definition of exciting has to be a FPS, TPS, RPG or JRPG. Let me stop playing Shogun 2 and Starcraft 2 now since you told me its not exciting compared to these other genres. I am going to start playing FF13 right now since it you classified it as exiciting and I dont know any better.

See my sig for the PC - console game formula.

Basically: 1 good PC game is better than all console games. Console games are simple, hand-holding, blow everything up with zero thought experiences.

PC games are about creating virtual worlds to experience, whether its FPS/RPG/RTS/MMO.

Its all about standards and if yours are lower I guess you are lucky, to be fair if you hadn't ever seen a next gen console you probably wouldn't have needed to step up from a PS2. There is however nothing on consoles that competes with the MMO or RTS genre, and the extra power and superior controls definitely help out the shooters and rpg's.

It may be fine to you but to other's it looks like a blurry mess and crap compared to crystal quality of 1080P. Some people are fine with DVD's quality but other's would much prefer to watch moviesin the crystal clear quality Blu-ray 1080P. They just have higher standards.

I think it's worth the extra money. KB/M, mods, server options (most games anyway :(), sales with Steam etc. Plus building and tinkering with computers is fun, at least for me seeing as I'm a massive nerd.

And I'm sick of people using the old a $2000 PC is required argument. My PC cost $750 including W7 and it runs all modern games just fine at 1080p

why should I be forced to use a gamepad when on pc I can pick gamepad or keyboard/mouse depending on which the game is more suited to, plus pc games load much faster with less slowdowns and texture popins, constant performance is more important than you might think, plus with pc you can always turn the settings down to make a game run well with consoles you are stuck with it. upscaled 720p on low settings does not look anywhere near as good as high in 1080p, ok it's alright when you are on the other side of the room but look pretty bad when you are a foot away from the screen.

not to mention my 3 year old pc can run all games on high settings in 1080p and did not cost anywhere near $2000.

This is a pretty tempting reason I'd say... game looks pretty insane.

The question should be the other way around what reason to go for console for any game over the pc version? Why would i pay more for an inferior version? Any game that makes it to console and pc i always get the pc version.

Unfortunately to have access to all those exclusives you need to pay like 7 different monthly MMO fees.

Why would you even play 7MMOs at once?
