He wasnt in, but he was referenced towards the end. As for Zelda, I liked her, a very strong and indephendant character who was able to stand up and defend link against the bullies. Too bad she was ruined with the big reveal.

Zelda has never been this cheesy before.

Shinobishyguy

Yeah this was the cheesiest one yet IMO. I think the lack of interesting deep characters (only a select few) and the addition of Groose and even those dumb dragons :P (I hate the way they look) made it a bit more silly.

I honestly prefer the cheesy lighthearted feel on SS to the whole grimdark for the sake of it feel that TP had going on.

That game often tried too hard to be epic,

Twilight Princess was cheesy as well. But I do prefer SS's story to Twilight Princess's, light hearted works better than grimdark, but the best would be something in between, maybe light hearted on the surface, but with subtle dark and mature undertones.

The Wii-U is fully compatible with the Wii Motion+, but I would tend to agree that I'd like to see the tablet put to use, and that would make motion gameplay difficult..

PurpleMan5000

There are ways you can do it on the u-pad, but none I can think of come near the greatness of a wm+ Zelda.

For example, 100% touchscreen based? Already been done twice.

However there are other aspects I would love to see on a console Zelda for the Wii U pad, such as taking notes on the map. The ideal situtation for me would be if the game is based on wm+ but you also have the u-pad sitting in front of you for some kind of interactivity.

Wait what?

It's implied that Zelda HD will use wm+ enabled Wiimote + nunchuck, like SS. No u-pad at all.

SuperFlakeman

I think that's a huge shame. The Wiiu-pad could at least be a little more interesting but another Zelda with cel-shaded graphics on the Wiiu would be a huge disappointement.

I would love to see a Galaxy 2 graphics style Zelda. How would you describe the artstyle in SMG anyway, what is that style called?

Yeah, cel-shaded graphics could look like just about anything. I mean more in the sense of SS though. I either want realistic looking graphics (not real realism without any soul like most western games though) or the Wind waker styIe. I personally wouldn't mind a more Japanese styIe like Okami or Muramasa. That would really set it apart from other games in the franchise

Skyward Sword while beautiful and easy on the eyes was a little bland outside a few key characters and settings. Maybe some stronger colours and being in HD would lift it up to a more vibrant styIe so who knows?

Sounds like you want OoT's story and feel ;). IMO it struck the perfect balance, as did WW. If I recall though, TP did it pretty well. I think SS is the worst one honestly.

PS - NO I do not want Galaxy 2 graphics in Zelda!

They just have to make an exact copy of Zelda OOT or WW, even MM would do

They must not do anything like Zelda TP or SS

Indeed, they must have let some Gears slip in there, because the game was far easier, more streamlined, had 1/10000 the appeal and epicness of OOT and was a very dull experience

Only the desert part felt genuigly good and up to OOT standard imo

I dont blame Nintnedo though, gaming was always going to reach a point of saturation, where most ideas will have been played and trying to do new things is not always easy or successfull

Same goes for the horrid FF13 and Square

The only company that did improve vastly upon the past is From Software, these guys are my favourite this gen by miles

Maybe CD PRoject too, Witcher 2 was amazing

I like how people criticize TP for being too easy when really all 3D Zelda games are very easy. I'd laugh if you could get a game over in any 3d Zelda game. The hardest one is definitely Skyward Sword and even then I never got a game over...or well, I probably would have with two of those imprisoned fights but those hardly count because those battles are horsesh*t, that plus I managed to reset before actually getting the game overs. >_>

It's true that they are all easy, but that's usually because you have a lot of hearts and potions toward the end of the game when the difficulty starts to get ramped up. I don't think I would have had much problem beating TP with 3 hearts the whole way through and no potions. It was just way too easy to avoid taking damage, and most monsters didn't even take a whole heart when you did get hit.

I never tried to beat a Zelda with only 3 hearts so I wouldn't know.

I think the only Zelda games I could ever get a game over in now-a-days are the first two on the NES. I used to find the Oracle games and A Link to the Past decently challenging but I think I've played those games enough and mastered them.

It needs to be unrecognizable. It needs to change the whole paradigm of what it means to be a Zelda game. Okami had the right idea.

I haven't tried either. I was just saying that TP is the only one that I would feel comfortable attempting it. I remember stocking up for the final battle in OOT and making sure I had faeries in my bottles, plenty of arrows, etc. There were portions of that game that gave me trouble. I was also 10 years old, though, so that probably had something to do with it as well. Skyward Sword is at least challenging enough to make me carry potions into the temples. I usually have at least one potion left in reserve when I get through it, though.

I would love a new action/adventure ip from Nintendo that did this. I would hate to see them do it and then just slap the Zelda name and lore to it, though. That would be awful.

Less padding. Skyward Sword's biggest issue(besides the controls, but eh I blame that on the Wii, not an issue with Wii U) is how PADDED that game is. The constant fetch quests in between dungeons was just awful. It's a waste of time. It's not fun. It's not well crafted. It's not interesting. It's not entertaining. It's not quality. It's wasting time before the real meat of the game which were the very good dungeons.

Stuff like the overworld being crap, combat being weak is also a major issue with Zelda, but one I can live with. I'm frankly sick of how the game wastes my time though. Skyward Sword improves tenfold if they flat out cut some of the content.

Yes the game's story is one big fetch quest, but that doesn't bother me because the gameplay you call padding was the complete opposite of this.

The surface world stuff is some of the most amazing gameplay I've seen. The silent world, flooded faron woods, stealth part, kikwi hide and seek, finding the key parts, was fantastic.

Zelda doesn't need to return to it's former glory. It needs to do something drastic that will change the Zelda formula. I just (literally, like ten minutes ago) finished Batman: Arkham City and think that Zelda could get some ideas from that game. The way you traverse the world, combat, item/gadget use and so on.

Skyward Sword is great and all, but in order to evolve Zelda further, a change is needed. Skyward Sworld did everything that you can do with the Zelda formula, but nothing else.

Your answer is to not make it a Zelda game?

What's the point in fundamentally changing the series? Wouldn't a new IP be better suited for that?

I would like the NPCs to send you on quests where you end up in some mini-dungeon and face a side boss. They could make some of the bosses extremely challenging as you wouldn't really have to beat them to finish the game.

I think Skyward Sword's controls and level design minus the padding and a little more emphasis on story would be an excellent Zelda game.

Posted this already a ways back:

That there's even a huge debate as to whether Zelda needs some massive changes is evidence enough that it does. Like it or not, it's growing tiresome and people have some very valid complaints. Even Aonuma himself stated in an interview that he's been focusing more on implementing small changes on an established formula since he's been at the helm rather than trying to really evolve the series. I'll see if I can find the quote. When the designer says as much, what can be said? Even HE realizes it. I still hold out hope.

I can't find the quote but it was a fairly recent interview.

I don't know, I think people would be surprised to find how much they could change it and still keep it Zelda. I don't think there'd be a huge outcry. Maybe though.

this pic is the zelda cycle in a nutshell. watch as the next zelda shows the tablet being used, people start hating on the tablet and demanding skyward sword 2.

you know that this is exactly what will happen.

trust me, the exact same thing happened with resident evil 4. The main thing is they don't need to overhaul everything. to use an example, Mario galaxy didn't really shake up the core mario formula, (in the end it was still about collecting stars and jumping on platforms.) It was the gravity mechanic and new setting that made it feel fresh. Contrary to what Nintendo's critics say about them constantly rehashing their games, nintendo actually made ALOT of changes in Skyward sword. The problem is very few of them were implemented as well as they could've been.

I don't, but he's going to have a few years to change his mind. They could also use the tablets and implement stylus controls for sword swings.

I think if we go back and read all the interviews Aonuma has made we'll find that his hints are always true.

Remember when his son said "you have done boat and trains, what about airship" or something like that, which is when people started to talk about the next Zelda taking place in the sky.

Nintendo is secretive but they really mean what they state.

There are some moments you could easily misunderstand what they say like the time when Miyamoto said "notice Link doesn't have a sword" which was meant to hint that the storyline will be about the creation of the mastersword but everyone thought it meant he would have a different weapon or it would be based on magic or something lol. Other than these vague things, I don't remember any statement that turned out to be flat out false.

not really, but i don't see them going for the wiimote + nunchuk combo again either. in other words, the wii u is too much of a mystery as it is to guess how games will be designed for it. BUT if they do use the tablet in the next zelda, there will be b!tching. well, there will be b!tching anyway, but they'll complain about the tablet, that's for sure.

It never lost its glory, Nintendo's still throwing out unique Zelda games. :)
