[QUOTE="SuperFlakeman"]"twilight princess is the last zelda as you know it", to an extent.I don't remember any statement that turned out to be flat out false.
BrunoBRS
They corrected that statement soon after by saying "don't worry, it's still Zelda"
Entirely new control scheme since 1998 that adds a new dimension to combat, areas and dungeons take on a new design direction. Removal of the typical push blocks/light candles puzzles with new stuff. These are pretty big steps, to me SS felt like the next stepping stone (TLoZ, OoT, SS) in the franchise.
It also depends on what "Zelda" means to someone. For some, SS is the same crap, for others it's unrecognizable.
No gimicky stuff. Just your usual, tap A to slash zelda.
el3m2tigre
I think we've passed the point when Zelda can appeal to the mindless dudebros who are in it for a 10 hour straight forward story with a focus on action over thinking.
Gimmicks are helpful for breaking the mold in terms of gameplay. I love how they experimented in PH/ST/SS with various hardware features, it makes the experience feel renewed.
I was not aware Zelda had fallen from glory. Overall Skyward Sword is still highly regarded.
However I would love to see another really dark style Zelda game, one like Majora's Mask. The final hour in that game is one of the most emotional moments I've played in a game. When the moon is crashing down on the town below. Side quest like the Kafei side quest. It had some very powerful moments.
The soundtrack had some really strong pieces. "Song of Healing"...also "Final Hours." I hope when Nintendo remakes the game they orchestrate them two at the very least.
I just want regular controls. I HATE HATE HATE motion controls.
Other than that, whatever, keep Zelda like Zelda.
Oh, and please not another MM; despite probably being the best in the series for atmosphere and music, I straight up couldn't stand the shape shifting.
3 day cycle? Cool. Time limit? Cool. Only 4 dungeons, with a focus on other content? Awesome. Having to play as a ****ing onion? No thanks.
Each Zelda changes enough while maintaining the Zelda 'feel' that I care about. So, nothing really.
For those who are in line with what Tom McShea feels, having a completely open world Zelda, similar to an Elder Scrolls games, would be fitting to the original Zelda.
For real lol. There is a major contrast there.Thankfully, this isn't a hard fix. At least not for Nintendo. Well, it shouldn't be.They need to make the overworld less mind-numbingly boring in comparison to the dungeons.

You seriously need to go and play every 3D Zelda game from start to finish, and then tell me with a straight face that SS' surface world and the way the areas are designed isn't a massive improvement in this aspect.
I actually thought the areas where more fun than some of the dungeons.

It's true. Skyward's over-world is better than almost every Zelda game (except for Wind Waker IMO). But when you compare Skyward's dungeons to Skyward's over-world, there is a glaring contrast (because Skyward's dungeons are mindblowing :)). Nintendo did an unbelievable job with this game. But it could be a bit better in that aspect. Then again, maybe it was Nintendo's intention. To make the dungeons waaaaay more interesting. But at the same time it could cause boredom for some gamers until they get to the next dungeon. Some may like the idea of a roller coaster ride. But not if that roller coaster dips to 5 miles per hour, constantly.

I don't understand that, to me stuff like kikwi hunting and silent realm where just as fun as doing the dungeons. Gameplay variety is always a good thing.
Dungeon 1, 2 where far too simple, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are amazing and while 7 was a genious concept the dungeon lacked any depth to it. Overall the surface world was the highlight of this game to me, not dungeons, which is weird because I play Zelda games mainly for the dungeons.
The only temple I would call mind blowing was the 4th one, 5 and 6 are great but not as end game temples, I expected more complexity and depth.

Well try the temples in MM, more specifically stone tower and the water temple. That's what I mean by complexity and depth. I know most people found the water temple to be frustrating though. Sky temple could've easily been a mind**** if they heavily restricted connections between the rooms, you could've been stuck there for 2 hours trying to find the right path. That's what I want in end game Zelda dungeons, in addition to the other amazing things they did ofc.
How about we just finish the series and give it a rest? I wouldn't want 10 half life games, 13 Starcrafts, or 17 fallout games. Zelda has had some awesome games and has been around for decades, why not have Nintendo let the series rest and let its legacy stand as is? HoolaHoopManhmm... no. you see, zelda is pretty much the only game left on its genre, and if people were getting tired of it, then sales wouldn't be nearly as good as they are.
but it was by changing the controls that they achieved skyward sword's controls. another "zomg this is so amazing" reaction won't come unless they change it. in other words, the mentality you're showing here is the mentality that would have kept skyward sword from being what it is.Just exploration. Let me do most the dungeons in any order I want. Stop holding my hand and forcing me down a linear path.
Dont, don't DON'T change the controls. SS's combat controls were near perfect.

watch as the next zelda shows the tablet being used, people start hating on the tablet and demanding skyward sword 2.
PurpleMan5000
So you think Aonuma is bs'ing when he says they can't go back to button controls?
I don't, but he's going to have a few years to change his mind. They could also use the tablets and implement stylus controls for sword swings.Oh God, that sounds just awful.

I'd love to see new ideas and elements added to the combat. This is nintendo, so you don't have to really worry about that.
I just don't want to go back to button mashing. Combat in most video games feels like little more than a glorified quick time event now.

HoolaHoopManIt's not a story based franchise like Half Life or Fallout, so why would Nintendo have any reason to give it a rest? The best thing about Nintendo's franchises is that while they have a supremely strong setup, their narratives are always self contained, whic means that they can go on making as many games in their series as they like. Like in Zelda- each Zelda game is a 'retelling' of the same 'legend.'
TBH honest I'm more worried about handheld Zelda than console Zelda as of now. Skyward Sword had it's flaws, but the pros of the game far outweighed the cons, and the game overall was a damn fine experience.
2D Zelda, on the other hand, has been kinda disappointing me for a little while. The last handheld Zelda I enjoyed were the Oracle games. Minish Cap was decent but I wasn't crazy about it. Phantom Hourglass was mediocre for me (single player was anyways), Spirit Tracks was "just okay", kinda unmemorable game for me.
How I long to see another handheld Zelda reach the quality of Link's Awakening and the Oracle games again. :(
While I love Skyward Sword Immensely, the things I thought were lacking was the huge explorable overworld and a story to rival the untouchable tale told in the Wind Waker. That would be the perfect Zelda IMO

I really hate that they have turned the handheld Zelda games into extremely linear games full of repetition. Full Zelda games have always worked on handdhelds. I strongly disagree the mentality that every game on a handheld need to be streamlined and condensed into 5-15min sessions. Links Awakening wasn't that, the Oracle games wasn't that and Minish Cap wasn't that and they were better for it.
As I expected, nostalgia whores and double standards. Zelda cycle at its work.
93BlackHawk93
1. 2D Zelda
2. Make it similar to Zelda 1 where its non linear. You just get dropped off in an island and you explore your way through.

Dunno, because I felt like TP was meh. Solid game, even a solid Zelda game.
But the bughunts completely trashed the pacing of the game.
I like how people criticize TP for being too easy when really all 3D Zelda games are very easy. I'd laugh if you could get a game over in any 3d Zelda game. The hardest one is definitely Skyward Sword and even then I never got a game over...or well, I probably would have with two of those imprisoned fights but those hardly count because those battles are horsesh*t, that plus I managed to reset before actually getting the game overs. >_>

lol its good to see people using a concept I invented (the zelda cycle) but yeah I agree with you...now it turns out everybody loves TP and most hate goes for SS...next zelda game will be like "LOL THIS GAME WILL RESTABLISH THE FRANCHISE TO ITS FORMER GLORY!!!!" and once its released "lol yeah it was a bad game, unlike SS which was amazing, the next zelda will be the definitive zelda!!!". btw zelda fanboys are worse than I thought if they think the franchise's glory is intact.
Dude, there's no denying that the zelda cycle exists to some degree.

I don't feel like the exploration part has been taken out.
You can always revisit any of the areas and there's plenty of substantial things to do.
While the progression is linear, there's still exploration to be had within the area the main quest wants you to be in.
So searching for the kikwi's is the main quest in Faron Woods, but exploring the area for heart pieces, treasure and bugs is optional exploration.
I want the game to have a massive change from its predecessors. I don't want a specific change, just something dramatic, like when Oracarina of Time was in 3D, Majora's Mask gave you a huge time limit, and Wind Waker flooded the planet. I think they should make Link a girl and I think Zelda should be more active in the story like she was in Ocarina of Time. For all I care they could put it in space, I just want something crazy. Also with games like Shadow of Colossus and Red Dead Redemption making really kick ass horses, I would want Epona to be the new best horse in video games if she's in the game. Zelda used to be the absolute best series of games, you can't coast on that title using games like Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword without damaging your reputation.

Yeah I hear ya. I think MM and WW mixed it up a lot while keeping it Zelda. TP not so much (though still great), and SS offered the controls, but that doesn't really change it enough in my opinion, and on top of it the controls also involved taking out aspects of combat from WW and TP. SO it was kinda a tradeoff. Then you have the sky, which was almost pointless. So I don't feel there was quite enough setting it apart either. THough that is not my biggest issue with it or TP.
