So what you're saying is that Mario isn't milked dry where SF2 is?rpg9000owner

How many times was SF2 released in the 90s? By the time they released Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, I got exhausted...

At least Nintendo has not released 10 versions of the same game within a 5 year span...

Ah I see, I thought he was reffering to the Mario Licence which has been milked. However I'll agree Capcom milked SF2.

What did he do? QC + P? Please. Mario revolutionized 2D and 3D gaming. Plus , his fighting game is by far the most original. :)

Im sorry thats just absurd, we all know he didn't revolutionise 2-D and Starfox and Quake were the games that revolutionized 3-D Mario 64 was late on the bandwagon.

Mario took 2D sidescrollers to a whole new level. and How TF did Quake and Starfox revolutionize 3D gaming? Startfox was just an on-rail shooter and Quake? WTF did Quake do? O-o

It revolutionised platformes yes, but it wasn't even close to revolutionising 2D, no where near. Quake was the FIRST fully 3D game, starfox was the first game to have 3D i think and introduced the concept. Mario 64 did do something but you can't give the plumber credit for making 2-D and 3-D, thats an insane remark to make.

You seem to be talking about graphics. i'm talking gameplay. :?

No, we were talking 3-D :) which is graphics. Mario did alot for 3D in terms of platform games and left the blueprint for all other platformers to come but it didn't revolutionise 3D alltogether, it takes more than one game to revolutionise a dimension.

emm, yes it did. :? Many games today even out side the platformers genre, use the same basic movement/ control system.

It wasn't even the first 3D game, you cant say that 1 game alone made 3D. Quake 1 did alot more than Mario 64 did. Like i said before 'it takes more than one game to revolutionise a dimension'.

What if the first 3D game stunk, do we call it a revolution because it's the first game in 3D?

3D gaming normally refers to gameplay taking place in a 3D realm. The fact is that 3D gaming hit a wall before Mario 64 since most developers couldn't get it right. Games were stuck in a "2.5D" mindset where players are still stuck on a 2D plane in a 3D environment. Mario 64 was the first game that got full blown 3D right since most "3D" games in that era was fixed. You brag about Quake in relation to 3D advancements but lets face it: The game was set up to force you to look a certain way. Mario gave you an infinitely better sense of freedom, which is the purpose of 3D gaming.

Quick! Get a towel!! Ignorance is leaking all over your post, buddy.

Mario was a huge part in a console/company that was a huge part in the home video game console popularity. Yes, there was Atari and other prior but Nintendo is who made gaming at home fun, easy, and in masses. Ryu wouldn;t have ever existed if it weren;t for Mario and nintendo.

I think your jokes are lame. Stop them. On the issue, Duck Hunt AND Mario help Nintendo in 1985. It wasn't Mario himself. I'll go on further to say if it wasn't for the malfunctions of the gun Nintendo had, Duck Hunt will be just as big as Mario today. Don't forget there was another drought in gaming around 1991 too. Who came alone and took GAMING( not just console) out of it? Street Fighter 2. Mario helped just console gaming during its time. Arcades were still more popular than console gaming back then. Now the poll says the face of gaming not console gaming. I'm going to have to go with Street Fighter 2.

PS: That last statement you made is just plain ignorant. If console gaming died, Arcades still would've exist. That is where Street Fighter 2 flourish.

You forget that arcades were at their peak when pac-man and donkey kong were in them. Not Street Fighter.

Mario. Not only was he at the forefront of the resurrection of gaming in 85, he was a part gaming BEFORE the crash.
