Yeah, sorry I couldn't include Crysis, Halo 3, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, Team Fortress 2, and all that good stuff.

Anyway, I know Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is considered a first person adventure by many, but that's only because that's what the first two were. Honestly, the third one is more of an FPS than anything...

...And it's the best one I played last year. Yeah, I haven't even finished it yet! I got it for Christmas 2007, played a bunch of other games, and bought No More Heroes on January 22, 2008. After I got it, I just stopped playing it, but I started playing it again yesterday, and it's incredible. The environments and artistic direction definitely make up for the fact that the graphics aren't technically as good as a game like Call of Duty 4. Seriously, it has the second best level design this generation, in my opinion. But on top of looking and sounding great, it also plays great. The controls are spot on and rival that of even Mouse/Keyboard, especially since it has an analog stick. The Wii Remote lacks a few buttons, but Retro Studies did an excellent job of including everything they wanted to include move-wise without making the controls bad.

Overall, I can't wait to get into this again. I can't believe I stopped playing it. It's great. It like it more than the first one already.

Also, I didnt' play Crysis or STALKER first hand, but all the other ones I named (Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Call of Duty 4, and the like, I did play).

What say you? We are, again, considering Metroid Prime 3: Corruption as an FPS in this poll.

Since I didn't play the entirety of STALKER until 2008 I will have to go with Half Life 2: Episode 2 and Portal. STALKER was easily the best from 2007 that I played though. I also played Final Doom in 2007 for the first time... The Plutonia Experiment is fantastic.

Honestly, dude, I think I did a good job of picking choices out.

Also, The Orange Box... I do NOT consider that one game. Half-Life 2 came out in 2004, and Half-Life 2: Episode One in 2006. I don't count that. Only Episode Two.

I wanted to include Halo 3 and BioShock, but I felt that those four choices were the best. A few people will disagree with me, yeah, but that's why I always include the "Other" option. So vote for that, if you want.

Crysis, CoD 4, Halo 3 and STALKER should be the list.

I'd name a PS3 game, but we didn't get any great exclusive FPS's. Maybe if you had half a mind your Wii fanboyism would allow you to admit the same.

Well, I meant just games that released in 2007. I first played Half-Life 2: Episode Two and Portal in 2008, but I still consider them in the 2007 category.

Also, Portal would be second, but I don't consider it an FPS. It was a great game (I personally feel that the ORIGINAL Half-Life is still slightly better, however.), but it definitely was not an FPS. It was in first person, and you made your way through the game using only portals. You did have to mess with some turrets and GLaDOS, but that's about it. I say it's definitely more of a puzzler. Definitely. It's in first person, but it doesn't have the "shooter" aspect to it.

Halflife Episode 2 and Crysis.

As much as I like Stalker, the bug's and confusing story would make it a third place.

no bioshock? ReaperV7

Sorry, I was going to, but not enough room.

You know, I remember both released in August 2007, so this was all about a year ago:

I didn't really go to GameSpot that much because I still had good ol' NSider. Anyway, I remember being so disappointed that I couldn't experience BioShock because I didn't have a 360. I said that I'd trade Metroid Prime 3: Corruption in for BioShock, which now I find ridiculous, because BioShock was over-hyped through the roof, and there's definitely better shooters in 2007 more worthy of the praise than BioShock got.

Once I came here, I realized that my PC was powerful enough to run BioShock. So in May 2008, I played BioShock, and was disappointed. It isn't what I wanted it to be or what I thought it was going to be, but I still thought it was a great game.

And yes, Metroid Prime 3 isn't a shooter. It is a first-person shooter, adventure, platformer hybrid. Like Deus Ex is a first person shooter, role-playing hybrid.

lol. Well, I don't really think of the Prime series when I think of FPS -- to me, its FPA. There's a huge discussion of whether it is or not, but to me, its a FPA. It's not your typical shooter -- also, overall, the Metroid games are not shooters.

Plus, for some reason, COD4 reminds me a lot of CS -- and I loved CS until I quit playing it.

Except it isn't worthy. You're comparing a Non-HD, Wiimotecontrolled game with no multiplayer ot three HD FPS's with outstanding multiplayer modes, and online content. Not to mention Halo and Stalker's Map Editors. MP3 may be able to at least compete SP wise, but you can't seriously believe it can be put up there as a complete package.

Yes, exactly. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is such a damn good game. It got the same score as Halo 3 on IGN, and it got the same score as STALKER on GameSpot.

Why do you guys think it can't stand up as one of the best FPSs in 2007?

Yes, there's a huge debate going on universally whether or not Prime 3 is an actual FPS. I only considered it an FPS in this poll, so I could include it as an FPS of 2007. There's really not many FPAs. I like that style better, though. I mean, I get tired of the constant shooting. I've never played an "FPS" that hasn't felt extremely repetitive throughout the entire game. Yes, I understand that you might consider the Prime series a bit repetitive, but they took away most of the backtracking in Prime 3.

I thought BioShock was supposed to be an FPA. It would've been a much better game if it focused more on exploration than shooting. But then I played the game and realized that I got a different game than I wanted. I still somehow gave it a 9, though, even though I should've given it a much lower score.

Call of Duty 4's single player is short and underwhelming compared to Call of Duty 1's. Halo 3's seems like an afterthought. Maybe an exaggeration, but it's definitely not what people buy the game for.

It seems like these games didn't really need a single player mode, at least in my opinion. Their main focus is on multiplayer, and that's what they excel at.

Prime 3 may not have multiplayer, but it doesn't need it to outclass other games in its genre. Super Mario Galaxy doesn't have multiplayer, and yet it still outranked every Ratchet and Clank game to date.

Do you really think R&C:ToD had a multiplayer?

Then again, you think MP3 is an elite FPS, so maybe you do.

[QUOTE="yellowandmushy"]The Darkness for Single Player. Halo 3 for Multi Player. I'm playing through the Prime games right now. I laugh at anyone who thinks they don't stand up to any of the other games listed.DeathScape666

Yes, exactly. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is such a damn good game. It got the same score as Halo 3 on IGN, and it got the same score as STALKER on GameSpot.

Why do you guys think it can't stand up as one of the best FPSs in 2007?

Because it is underrated.

I loved Metroid Prime 3 easily the 2nd best game on the Wii IMO.

THe gameplay was at its best
The boss fights were probably the best in the franchise(well maybe not better than Super Metroid)
Great pacing.

Loved it

but PRime 3 was too action oriented when compared to the original metroid prime

The exploration was kind of gimped
the story and voice acting came out cheasy....
The fetch quest around the end was annoying.

All in all it was fantastic, and I would love to play another Metroid game. but for me

Metroid Prime 1>Metroid Prime 3>Metroid Prime 2.....

Metroid Prine 3 should not be on there. Sorry that you're a nintendo fanboy, but it doesn't need to be there.

Crysis, CoD 4, Halo 3 and STALKER should be the list.

I'd name a PS3 game, but we didn't get any great exclusive FPS's. Maybe if you had half a mind your Wii fanboyism would allow you to admit the same.

I was about to type out something rather cruel, but since it will lead to nothing, I decided not to.

Deal with the choices there. It's not like Metroid Prime 3: Corruption isn't worthy of being put next to Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, and STALKER.

DeathScape666

There really isn't any logical debate. The Prime games feature more than just shooting elements and thus are hybrids like Deus Ex and System Shock 2. There is as much exploration and "adventure" as there is shooting. Calling it a "first person shooter" doesn't acknowledge the fact that there are other elements to the gameplay than just shooting.

Halo, Half Life, Call of Duty and Doom are shooters. You shoot things in them and follow a linear path. In the Prime's you shoot things but you also explore a non-linear world at your own pace and solve puzzles and defeat some bosses without shooting (Boost Ball and Spider Ball Guardians from Prime 2). I would also put STALKER into the hybrid genre as well, even though there is a much larger focus on shooting.

There has to be a difference established between genres in their names or people will end up just lumping obviously different games together into the same genre. Which is probably why a lot of people dislike the Prime games... they are called "shooters" and people who enjoy shooters and who don't enjoy exploration or backtracking will obviously have problems with those elements in Prime.

System Shock 2 and Deus Ex are definitely not shooters. The role-playing, character building and survival (SS2) elements in those games don't exactly fall into the same category as "shoot everything that moves."

NO! I never said that! Stop putting words into my mouth. I was referring to the Ratchet and Clank games WITH multiplayer. I played the third one, and played the multiplayer. I know the third one has online. And I own Ratchet: Deadlocked and think the multiplayer is bad.

I guess I should've pointed out that I was not referring to Tools of Destruction, because I knew people would automatically assume that I was referring to the latest entry in the series.

So to clarify, no, I never said that. I do my homework. Believe me.

I see what you mean. I honestly do consider Prime 3 an FPA, but I didn't in this case only because I wanted to see how many votes it would get. But you're right; the primary focus in the Prime games aren't about shooting. There's a heavy emphasis on exploring, like in Zelda, and that's not what FPSs are about. Like Zelda isn't a hack and slash, like God of War, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry are, but it does have a combat system.

I just wanted to see how many votes it'd get. Honestly, that's the only reason why it was included in this poll; just to see how much appreciation it gets.

[QUOTE="ChiddaPotta"]Lol, instead of putting Crysis, Halo 3, TF2, you put Metroid Prime 3 Corruption? :Pjg4xchamp

Hell yes!

I expected to get these type of responses. Honestly, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption must be really under-appreciate if it can't be put next to those games.

I just knew you had to put a Nintendo Wii game up there seeing how much of a fan you are of Nintendo. But still, you should have atleast said Metroid Prime 3 in your post, not the poll...actually, why bother making a poll when you can't fill all the games up?

Erm... Are you just saying I'm a huge fan of Nintendo because of this one thread? Because I don't really recognize you...

I don't know. I like polls! Plus, that's what the "Other" option is there for.

well no offense but you have shown favoritism towards the Nintendo systems and games.

Not in a fanboyish manor

but in a "I like Nintendo games" kind of way....

I see what you mean, but I honestly don't discredit games if they aren't made by Nintendo. I own a PS2, and thought Jak 2 and 3 were better than Super Mario Sunshine.

to be honest what I liked about Metroid Prime 3...was that the action got better....just the exploration was kind of gimped....

Zelda to me would be amazing if the combat was as fun as DMC or as deep as Ninja Gaiden...

Not saying the combat/action makes MEtroid or Zelda terrible

but saying improving those things would put the franchises on a whole different level of awesome

Great exploration to go along with Great combat/action.

For me it'd have to be either Crysis or BioShock. Without a doubt. I love both games, they're so much fun. That being said, I still like all of the other mentioned games (pretty much). Just Crysis and BioShock were my favorites.
