Gears was the first graphics moment for me, Resistance was the first online moment, and Heavenly Sword was the first gameplay/story moment.
And MGS4 is the first game to get all of those moments into one game!
Gears blew me and everyone I knew away at the time. It will be the most ahead of its time for consoles this whole gen. I seriously doubt I will be wowed again like that.lolkie_81
Really? Because I felt that Bioshock blew Gears away as the best game on 360 when it came out. And then MGS4 blew everything away... I'm not sure there will be another game this gen that will catch up with MGS4. At least not for the next 2-3 years.

I didn't see anything in MGS4 that completly blew me away like Gears did.
oddly enough, there wasn't one yet, altough, you can say these games really tried to do so:
Crysis: yeah, crazy graphics and fast-paced, dynamic gameplay, but I've already seen it in trailers, so I actually expected it
Bioshock: the game was incredible. in its first 30 minutes of gameplay. after that you were just killing hordes of the same enemies, praying for the moment when you'll encounter something new and jawdropping. it never happened, so "would you kindly" for me was just... "okay... what's next?". Half of the game actually bored me to death.
So maybe Diablo 3 announcement was "oh snap" moment for me.

Not sure what game you were playing then. Gears was outdone a year later on both system. Who know... maybe MGS4 will be too, but I highly doubt it. There has never been a game so epic in graphics, story, gameplay, and scale as MGS4 was. I was blown away by Gears graphics at the time... but that was it. And even then I noticed how Resistance had more detail in its backgrounds and environments. Gears crushed everything in terms of textures, which was definitely cool at the time... but bump mapping can only impress but so far.

MGS4 is no doubt a great game, and it puts a bunch of gameplay elements together well, but every gameplay element is done better in other games. Also the story was overly complicated and drawn out.
The launch price of the 60GB PS3...67gt500
This, along with a Good Morning America feature on the consoles last Christmas that showed a room full of RROD'd 360s
The part in the first GRAW when you're running towards the building with the ambassador in it that you're supposed to save, and it just blows up right in front of your eyes in real time. It was that combination of next-gen graphics with the impact of that moment which made it my first "oh snap" this gen.
And then, yeah, a few months later Gears would do it again.
Playing Dead Rising for the first time was the first next gen game I played, and fighting Adam, Jo, Cletus, and a few other select bosses was pretty intense.
Adam was not only a cool boss, but he freaked the crap out of you.
WiiSports was my first "wow" this gen. Especially the bowling.
Then I popped in Metroid Prime 3 and got my second wow...
