Is a new Metroid game.

Yes, I am aware I have said this before, multiple times. Yes, I am aware I have made this thread in varying capacities multiple times before too. But you don't get it. I'm not just saying we need a new Metroid Prime... although that would probably be best.

No, I'm saying we need a new Metroid game period. 2D sidescroller, 3D action, first person shooter, the style doesn't matter one bit. The world has gone far too long without a real Metroid game, and with all three offerings last generation being very lacklustre (Metroid Prime Hunters, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Metroid: Other M), we need a return to form for Nintendo's most intense series.

What should we get? We should get a two pronged dual Metroid release: a new Metroid sidescroller for the 3DS, Metroid Dread, that continues the series on from where Metroid Fusion left it at what I can only call one of the most tantalizing cliffhangers of all time. And then, for Wii U, a full blown Metroid Prime 4. Yes, I stand by my assertion that we need Metroid Prime 4. Nothing less would do. We are also getting a 2D sidescrolling game, so there's no reason for us to not get a new Prime too.

One for the 3DS would be great. A sidescroller would work if Nintendo gets something like Arcade on the WiiU.

I say let Team Ninja have another crack at the series and get Sakamoto an editor. And by "editor," I mean someone who will forably take the script away from him and rewrite it.

I would like the series to return to it's 2D roots. It worked for Mario and DK, why not Metroid?

What we need is an F-Zero game, not a Metroid game.

Although a new metroid would be nice, especially one that takes place after fusion.

YES I really want to know what happened after
Samus essentially went rogue. Right now, she's fighting off both the Federation AND the Space Pirates. It would be so awesome to see where the story goes from here. The possibilities are endless.
@charizard1605 first yeah I agree with needing a new metroid for 3DS It could be 2D sidescrioller but I don't think nintendo wants to put a game that is better suited to 2D on a 3D focused platform. Unfortunately we are more likely to see a 3D metroid on unless it is a 3D sidescroller to take advantage of the 3DS. Maybe we will see interaction between the foreground and background having two "lanes" you can switch in between in a LBP fashion to add to the environmental puzzles and stuff.

as for that list Sony's studios pump out new IP's all the time. Nintendo manages their existing IPs very well but they don't very many new IP's....

I think Super Metroid was pretty perfect for a 2D one. And I think the Prime Trilogy is also pretty perfect. What I want is something new... what I want is... a Mass Effect styIe Metroid!

Metroid Effect!?

Think about flying round the galaxy, taking on bounty hunter missions, landing on different planets and facilites, getting new gear, armour, upgrades for Samus and her ship. I wouldn't want companions, still keep the lonesome exploration/action... maybe in third person like Zelda? And then returning to Federation planets/space stations, chatting to superior officers/pirates/mercenaries, getting quests, side missions, rewards... Maybe the odd level of space blasting action like Halo Reach got?

This will never happen and I'm sure 90% of Metroid fans would hate it if it did, but it's my dream :P

I don't know, Nintendo had no problem putting New Super Mario Bros. 2 on the 3DS, they might just put a 2D sidescroller there. Who knows? As for the list, there are two things I want to say to what you just said: a) Sony pumps out new IPs all the time only because it does not have a single major franchise like Microsoft or Nintendo do. if they did, you can bet they'd stick to their stable too, and not continually try making new ones just to see what sticks b) Nintendo has new IPs too. They're just not produced or marketed on the same level as their top tier IPs. Franchises like Xenoblade, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, and The Wonderful 101 (assuming Nintendo owns the IP) are all new Nintendo IPs from the last three years.

But sony's actions prove the opposite. Their best selling franchise (that I know of) Grand turismo has seen one game this gen compared to games like resistance that sell rather poorly by comparison and yet Sony doesn't milk their super star IP's they make other IP's.

I agree with Jon. Say what you will, hide behind as many technicalities as you want, fact of the matter is, that while yes, Sony might also milk their IPs- and who doesn't- they are always investing in new franchises and one shots, something that Nintendo is usually reluctant to do. When they do produce a game that's not a franchise yet, they never market it properly, almost as if they want it to fail, so that they can use its failure as a justification for not investing in any new IPs.

Well, maybe if they invested into an original IP instead of a cheap knock-off of something else, they wouldn't have these problems.

No, I agree with you. And when they do- like Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, or to an extent, God of War- the IP gets instant recognition even outside of Sony's own fanboy circles. Not something you can say for something like Uncharted or Resistance. I just find it frustrating that 'Sony makes new IPs all the tiem!!!1!!' is actually a bargaining chip in arguments now that 'Sony doesn't milk!' has been debunked

I love the idea of a dual-release for 3DS and Wii U. A decade ago when nintendo did that BOTH my favorite Metroid games came. (Prime and Fusion) Of course Super Metroid still holds a special place in my heart.

Which I'm sure speaks to Sony's strategy of not wanting to milk franchises like GT, and not to the fact it took Polyphony Digital more than five years to make GT5 (and even then they had to kick it out the door half-baked).

I'd rather good games like Halo, Forza, GT, and Uncharted be milked than crap games like Resistance. Sony is dumb. Milk the hell out of GT. Maybe then you'll catch up with Forza.

What we need is an F-Zero game, not a Metroid game.

Although a new metroid would be nice, especially one that takes place after fusion.

charizard1605

YES I really want to know what happened after
Samus essentially went rogue. Right now, she's fighting off both the Federation AND the Space Pirates. It would be so awesome to see where the story goes from here. The possibilities are endless.
Yeah, I wanna see what happens too.
What would be cool was if the ending of Metroid Dread or whatever it will be called pulls a Wing Commander 4
Again, theintentdoesn't matter at all. What matters is the fact that we as gamers are wont to get much fresher experiences, and with more frequency, from Sony than we are from Nintendo.

I still don't understand the massive amount of hate Prime 3 gets over here.

Sure it was a bit more linear and the final boss was a dud but it was a pretty sweet ride all the way up till that point.

No, Prime 3 was an average game. At best. When you consider the lineage- an excellent and probably most consistently highly rated (until then) series of all time in Metroid, and one of the best received reboots in the subseries Prime, Prime 3 was a letdown plain and simple. Nothing worked.

except y'know, the controls, awesome boss fights, atmosphere and clever puzzles in some areas. Or are you just letting your pure hatred for the wii filter out any of the qualities the game had?

*edit* Oh and the game stands at a solid 90 on metacritic, yeah such a total disaster

Nah, if my hatred for the Wii filtered out good games, then I wouldn't love Brawl. I wouldn't love the three Wii Mario games. I wouldn't love Monster Hunter. The controls worked well for being motion controls. They were still fundamentally fiddly, and overall not as effective as a traditional dual analog setup, much less the PC keyboard/mouse combo that sheep were claiming it would rival. The boss fights LOOKED good, but were so easy, they lost all sense of menace. Atmosphere? Please. It lacked atmosphere, especially coming from Prime and Prime 2, that's what made it so disappointing and overwhelming overall. Gone was that eerie sense of being in an abandoned, derelict world, completely isolated. It played more like something out of Halo than anything else. The puzzles? Yeah, the puzzles were good. The music as always was great. But the game sucked, plain and simple. 8.5 was too high a score for it.

Well, maybe if they invested into an original IP instead of a cheap knock-off of something else, they wouldn't have these problems.RulerofGondor

Again, theintentdoesn't matter at all. What matters is the fact that we as gamers are wont to get much fresher experiences, and with more frequency, from Sony than we are from Nintendo.

How is Uncharted any fresher than something like the first Super Mario Galaxy? What is wrong with you?
