[QUOTE="Heirren"]I've been playing Metroid since NES. It's always been a cinematic game, of sorts. Who is to say the plot can't be a little more fleshed out? The world is certainly interesting enough to do so.Zeviander
Indeed, but there are different, less overt ways of telling a story in a game. Fusion and Other M are excellent games, and great additions to the series (unlike Hunters), but I really think the best way to tell a "story" in Metroid is through the environment. The use of hostile and serene environments in Super is a great example, especially when the two come together in Maridia.

I don't mean like for like. Kojima and company are just good storytellers>.

Meh I don't care, what I need is a new Jak and Daxter game, or a new Time Splitters game, those were so fun, especially virus.

I would love a new Chrono game, but Square can't make good games anymore so I have no hope.

Kojima needs like three editors. :P

Still, I think Retro nailed the story of Metroid Prime, and they did OK with Prime 2. It was Prime 3 that was a joke. I think they went for more modern mentality of storytelling and just dropped the ball. Metroid is a game best experienced without being TOLD a story. You need to simply be immersed. I think it is to shooters as Demon/Dark Souls is to RPGs when it comes to storytelling. But Retro decided to not keep it up, which is a shame.
