Poll What would you prefer? Star Citizen or No Man's Sky? (86 votes)
What would you choose from two space games? And why?
Both games have any problems: No Man's Sky is boring, Star Citizen has a very long alpha.

There will be nothing but stupid answers to this stupid question.
I look at it this way: at least with Star Citizen there is a "could be". With No Man's Sky we know its boring shyte. I'll always take the unknown over a known turdbath
I enjoyed No Man's Sky for PS4 I agree it got repetitive after a while but it was fun while it lasted and for that reason I voted no man's sky.
Would have been nicer for more civilisations like earth, as all the animals started to become so alike
It will never be as successful as the Uncharted franchise or Last of Us, so don't even compare it.
It's literally made over 100 million dollars... In fact, almost 200 million... Before release.
Lol Uncharted 4 made $650 million in sales, what's your point?
Star Citizen is the single most successful crowd funding project ever, nothing else in any industry or sector comes close. It has over 2 million backers (the equivalent of traditional sales) which continues to grow daily and that's before it has even come out of Alpha. I'd say that's very successful. Wait till Squadron 42 releases and the numbers will double or even triple.
Do you have a link for the $650 million in sales, all I can find is a Forbes article saying they had sold 8.7 million copies, it's over a year old so not accurate but assuming that every copy was sold for $60 that would be $522,000,000. Call me sceptical but I doubt Uncharted 4 has sold a further 2.1 million copies at $60 each (many, many more at a lower cost) in the last year and that's not allowing for bundles where the game is effectively free but are invariably included in units sold figures.
I wonder what kind of return Sony made from Uncharted 4? Personally I'd guess around 25% (average for a AAA game) with a production cost of around $40 million and marketing in the region of $100 million (again roughly average for a AAA game). Netting Sony/Naughty Dog a profit of around $127 million, very healthy indeed.
Star Citizen, on the other hand, if was released today will have been paid for before release. if we estimate that it sells the same as it has brought in from crowd funding (another $185 million, which is perfectly feasible) The sales margin could be as high as 70% (allowing for digital distribution through their own website and the ongoing costs of running an online game) netting C.I.G a potential profit of around $129 million on less than half the units Uncharted 4 has sold. If C.I.G. do finish Squadron 42 and Star Citizen (frankly there is absolutely nothing to suggest they won't) their profits could be much higher than most other AAA games out there.
I love how you're counting Uncharted 3's production and marketing costs, but completely ignoring Star Citizens. But based on what you are saying... they profited all the $185 million or aren't they actually using that to develop the game? The game isn't supposed to make a profit until it's out. Or so I would assume from the biggest crowdfunding scam in history.
Of course not, your delusion. Didn't the creator just buy like a Pacific Palisades mansion worth $6 million. Oh yeah, I'm sure the Uncharted 4 producer also did the same. Come on, they are misusing the funds.
@needhealing: Try reading my post again please.
I've estimated on star citizen selling the same as it has already, if it was released today. As it currently has $185 million and all of that has gone to development. Selling same again would be where any profit would be derived from, i.e. an additional $185 million.
You do know that Chris Roberts was a very wealthy man long before Star Citizen happened? That tends to happen when you sell a huge I.P. to EA and a studio to Microsoft. He isn't some random teenager who popped out of no where.
Stil no link to your $650 million either.

Yet he bought the mansion after Star Citizen. Nice. Also, those numbers you just pointed out are fake - i made the numbers up just like you based on my estimates. So we're both making up numbers.

I consider the game a lot of fun, I have hundreds of hours in the game
but regardless of my opinion agreeing 100% with WAB guy who said 'NMS is for kids, Elite is for grown ups'
it should at min. be on the list when talking about NMS and SC regardless of my tastes

He bought a Lamborghini as well, rich people buy expensive things, go figure.
The difference between your numbers and mine are substantial. I clearly stated that I was estimating based on averages for the Uncharted 4 numbers, on the other hand you presented your "numbers" as fact, those are very different things. By the way I used your $650,000,000 in my estimations of Sony/Naughty Dogg's profits.
As for Star citizen/Squadron 42, all anyone can do is speculate as neither game has released yet or, technically, actually sold any copies. However given the constant flow of information and videos from C.I.G., the player driven hype and the mass of press it gets from the haters and the media (good and bad), the game is, as guaranteed as you can get, going to sell well past the backer numbers. So another 2 million sales is really not out of the question. I also allowed 30% from their sales to cover distribution costs and initial server support which, realistically, is likely more than would actually be needed.
There is no chance in hell that Squadron 42/Star Citizen will be as successful as the Uncharted series (it's not mainstream or casual friendly) but when you take a game like Uncharted 4 in isolation then it will likely be more profitable due to the development funding and business model.

what gets me is how a person comes to the knowedge that he bought a Lamborghini in the first place
Typically they have a raging hate hard on and go on the interwebs looking for SC hate porn.

@tryit: What I really can't understand is why any self respecting "gamer" would want what is probably the most ambitious gaming project in history to fail. It's like people don't want gaming to advance and innovation is to be frowned upon if it doesn't come from an established mainstream publisher or console manufacturer.
I get the System Wars thing, hating on anything that's not on your preferred platform is a requirement here and most of it is bravado and trolling. However when you get out in to the wild internet the hate is substantial and very real, it's all very bizarre and very sad indeed. Every gamer should be supporting this game (I don't mean financially) and hoping for it to succeed because it could positively impact gaming, especially indie gaming and crowd funding, for many years to come.

Nope, i'm one of those gamers that doesn't like people who are sheeps to be preyed upon like yourself. Everytime they lose money on crowdfunding. This game is a scam, overly ambitious, going to flop hard and somehow Trash citizen fanboys are making it seem like it's the second coming of god. It's not.

I think a break is in order. You seem to get extremely upset about how OTHER people spend THEIR money. From what I hear lots of people are enjoying it as we speak. Doesn't sound like a scam to me.
Go take a break and relax for a bit. Worry about how you spend YOUR money not how others do.

it COMPLETELY depends.
If a person is spending money exclusively for joy in the future then as long as they are aware of the risks then its fine.
If a person is spending money to enjoy the game NOW as well as invest in the future then that is fine with nearly zero risk.
but either way, I need you to not try and stop me from spending money on unfinished games because I find those games fun.
I will not try to explain why because I doubt you would ever understand ACTUAL game play but that is why

several problems with that perspective.
1. just because a company says something is 'complete' doesnt mean it is
2. complete does not mean good. I have played plenty of 'unfinished' games that are CONSIDERABLY better than some finished titles

1. just because a company says something is 'complete' doesnt mean it is
2. complete does not mean good. I have played plenty of 'unfinished' games that are CONSIDERABLY better than some finished titles
Trash Citizen isn't one of those games that are better than finished titles, though. It's a tech demo.
It's not.
Boy, I didn't know you had a time machine. Can you pick us up a sports almanac while you're in the future trying all these finished games?
Troll's gonna troll.
By the way Sheep follow, I was a Star Citizen backer from the start because I want a game that is ambitious and exciting.
I feel bad for you sheep, yes. My duty as a human being is to help others. This is the wrong path to take, spending hundreds on a game that is basically a scam. I pray for all of you.
Hahaha, I've played more SC Alpha than I have all of the Gods of War series so far. Pretty worth it in my books fella.
Must be real fun driving in a boring empty space, pretending to have fun while spending hundreds of dollars to buy its creater a multi million dollar mansion.

Obviously I am having fun otherwise I would stop??
Doesn't seem like you are having fun in this forum at the moment though.
Do we need to go through every developers spending's now to determine if they've bought things you don't think are appropriate or something??
LOL. I believe Star Citizen is a scam but if gamers are enjoying the game in its current state who are you to claim otherwise?
exactly.
I think COD is more of a scam the Star Citizen even but I have no business telling people not to play or buy if that is what they enjoy

The widest puddle known to man.
Frontier is incapable of making a fun game. Everything they do is gated behind massive amounts of grinding and is often its own unique mechanics that do not tie into anything else.
I consider the game a lot of fun, I have hundreds of hours in the game
but regardless of my opinion agreeing 100% with WAB guy who said 'NMS is for kids, Elite is for grown ups'
it should at min. be on the list when talking about NMS and SC regardless of my tastes
I have just under 2000 hrs in the game and have pretty much unlocked everything worth unlocking. The game is fun when you first start but it's extremely repetitive. Star Citizen even it its Alpha form is a superior game from a gameplay perspective. The gameplay loop in Elite Dangerous is so shallow. The only depth in it comes from the combat system that they have, everything else is as basic and as shallow as can be. I still play the game a lot because I'm a sucker for making money and exploring but the moment Star Citizen gets to a really playable state (most likely at the end of the year), I'll probably abandon ED. FDev really need to address the shallow gameplay in the game.
I know they have a huge gameplay patch coming up towards the end of the year, the problem is the previous patches were supposed to improve the gameplay and they did not. Engineers and Powerplay are completely boring as hell elements in the game that have been abandoned by most players dude to too much grinding. Whatever FDev is cooking up needs to address the grinding aspect of the game which is a huge turn off to most people. They have a narrow amount of time to do this because if they don't do it before the end of the year, and Star Citizen catches up to them they'll be really screwed. CIG is also planning a huge patch towards the end of the year that will greatly improve netcode, performance, and will also open up space travel so that we can go to more planets within the Hurston system and other star systems. The clock is ticking on ED, and very soon it won't be the only show in town.

two things.
1. you should NEVER play a game for 2000 hours that you feel is unpleasant to you.
2. The purpose of my post was to suggest Elite should be part of the conversation of NMS vs SC vs ____ not that it is it better because I actually wouldnt know

I like the game but I'm still very sensitive to its flaws. I'd never spend that amount of time on a game I find unpleasant to play :D, its still one of my fav games.

I barely touch Engineers and Powerplay. 99.9% of my time in the game was spent bounty hunting and exploring. The combat in the game is very good and probably the only aspect of the game with serious depth. The exploration doesn't have depth but I just like exploring so I find that aspect satisfying.

re-read what you just wrote slowly and contemplate it deeply.
its insanity, I just dont understand why some gamers are like that.
this part really sums up the crazyness

I play it like an RPG so that means I play it when I'm relaxing. Grindy and repetitive games have their uses for when you don't want to play a challenging game but still want to play a game. The problem with Elite though is that it's grindy and nothing else. It needs something other than grinding to do. If it had more planet types to explore or things to do like better mining mechanics it would be more fun to play.

I see this all the time.
Gamer claims he likes the game, then makes a post just complaining about how bad it is, adverting to everyone that he plays it.
well is it bad or not?
lame
basically 'this game sucks and I should know because I played it for 2000 hours' is something nobody should ever say

I think you're over simplifying his comments a bit too much. I get what he's saying because I spent a similar amount of time in WoW and most of that was just grinding for gold or running junior guild members and friend's alt characters through instances. I obviously didn't hate the game but I was well and truly aware of it's flaws but enjoyed it all the same due to the stress free playtime. Running and organising weekly raids was fun and stressful so the downtime was always nice, if somewhat boring.

yes of course the game is grindy, but that is not really what he is saying is it?
he is implying that grindy is a bad thing.
well to illustrate my point, I will ask you.
is it? is grindy a bad thing?
