"The Cloud" means connecting to a server over the internet, nothing more....

You can't compare GDDR5 with "The Cloud" to begin with.... One is a piece hardware, the other is an online service.

"The Cloud" can't and won't do what the hardcore fakeboys/lemmings suggest it will, in terms of AI and physics.

PSN is a cloud service already. Nothing stopping them from allowing developers to utilize the servers from back-end capabilities. Sony just didn't think it was worth hyping up because dedicated server technology is nothing new.

Microsoft has way better and more powerful servers than Sony, over time that would prove to be more valuable than faster ram.

Serious question. Which would you truly have?

Mr720fan

It depends. Faster RAM will definately improve the single player experience. For multiplayer, the cloud has the potential to have a large impact.

I haven't seen any demos where a game didn't need the quick response times that local hardware can give - but I am not a game developer. If there are things that do not have to be "real time", then those tasks could be sent to the cloud in single player - but I can't think of anything that fits that model.

Obviously the one who has the weaker hardware. Just like how M$ payed Kojima to spew bullshit in spite of him knowing nothing about programming. faizan_faizan

Cut out the lossless info do a little compresing and throw it on multiple discs. It could very well have been done. Fan boys are just mad because they wanted to make more money and are releasing it on both systems now. The MGS IP may have been spread over different consoles over the years but the Sony camp had MGSIV as an exclusive and rightfully used it as so because it was an amazing game. He touted the power and benefits of the PS3 not just the disc space. Everything he said was gold because of that. Now he says something else and he is a liar and paid off.

True the internet is a "cloud" but Sony and MS, as well as a lot of other services, have their own set of servers and programming to allow that cloud to do certain things. Its not as simple as "its just the internet" it comes down to what a specific companies "cloud" offers.

PS4's system bandwidth is 176GB/s compared to XBone's 68.

So, unless your internet is 108 GB/s somehow, then the "powa of da cloud" does not fill a gap there.

owned.

You guys are not getting what the cloud is supposed to aid in. Again the cloud and memory are two completely different things with completely different uses. The whole concept of this thread is stupid. Comparing the memory of the two systems or the cloud of the two systems makes sense.

Can you explain how the cloud is going to fit a square peg in a round hole? How about how a GPU that is 1.2 TFlops is supposed to pull "cloud power" out of its bum and rasterize whatever is being processed better than a system with a 1.86 TFlops GPU? You guys are just spewing propaganda. Please, just stop.

there are alot of things you can do with the cloud in regards to gaming, its not going to give you teraflops or any kind of power, but there are other benefits that can delivered. More so if it was always online.

And you are mistaking the fact that I am not claiming the cloud can do what all of the fan boys say it can. You can not compare a cloud to a piece of hardware. I am not claiming enhanced GPU power or the cloud will boost graphics in any. You are a fan boy just like the rest and take evrything someone says as an attack. You know Sony has a cloud going right? Did I ever say it wouldnt be able to benefit from the same things as MS cloud? No I didnt. They will both benefit. Thats because I understand what a cloud is and I am not overestimating or making things up about what a cloud can or can not do. The fact that you are even comparing the benefits of a cloud, and countering what I say, to GPU specs show you have no idea what you are talking about. The cloud and its benefits, across both platforms, can not be compared to a piece of hardware such as memory or a GPU. That is why this thread was stupid from the get go.

Not sure why people think the cloud is exclusive to Microsoft.

There's a reason why Sony bough gaikai :P.

When it comes to the cloud, Sony has a massive advantage since they got gaikai's tech.

cloud can only be practical on non real time calculation due to internet bandwith constraint. AI real time reaction to your flanking manuever will not be affected by the cloud.

huge persistent world changes (for example a sudden occurence of earthquake that completely change the whole landscape) will be hard to implement in the cloud because of uploading and

downloading data (unless this data is already native locally).

I have yet to see cloud compute in action, but, usually RAM speed is not much an issue for computing, especially it is shared with no data copy. However, cloud compute can cache gigantic world with most realistic lighting and efficiently return result to the client.magicalclick

yes so much innovation comes with the cloud. I want that and love that, very worried that microsoft will not go on with there vision. I hope they make always on an option . or cloud compatible where you can give access and be always on for the dev.

[QUOTE="magicalclick"]I have yet to see cloud compute in action, but, usually RAM speed is not much an issue for computing, especially it is shared with no data copy. However, cloud compute can cache gigantic world with most realistic lighting and efficiently return result to the client.magicalclick

yes so much innovation comes with the cloud. I want that and love that, very worried that microsoft will not go on with there vision. I hope they make always on an option . or cloud compatible where you can give access and be always on for the dev.

cloud compute is always an optional feature. To my understanding, it will be used as dev cloud, which is how Halo4 is created. This lower the cost of development. The actual cloud compute will take much longer time for adoption, likely only three games (like Halo, NG, Morrowind HDD utility) until MS figure out how to enable the feature easily.

nice do you think microsoft give an always on option ?

PS4's system bandwidth is 176GB/s compared to XBone's 68.

So, unless your internet is 108 GB/s somehow, then the "powa of da cloud" does not fill a gap there.

The point is not potential, the point is that any device can have cloud help, inlcuding PS4

So i dont see how it helps xbox one at all, it is just BS and nothing concrete

MS has "cloud" as much as the PS4 can have

The Cloud is an all encompassing term for server based computing. I can store my files "In the cloud", I can render video on machines that far outstrip my current PC "in the cloud". I've done Folding At Home "in the cloud". The whole notion of "The Cloud" is just a buzzword for server based computing applications.
