Whats the hardest game youve ever played

Gradius, I have been playing this game on and off for the last seventeen years and still can't beat it.

I remember Battletoads was very difficult, but I did beat it when I was 13, I remember feeling defeated and shelved it thinking it was impossible, but then a got a Nintendo Power that listed a bunch of high scores so that motivated me to give it another try.

Hardest game? Probably Haunted Castle.

Some other notable contenders:

Wizardry IV (RPG), Target Earth (Shooter), Ghosts N Goblins (Platform).

All of the above make Ninja Gaiden Black and DMC3 on DMD mode seem easy while playing blindfolded with only one hand.

Trauma Center isn't that hard. Just takes a lot of practice. However, Gears of War on Insane isn't hard at all... Funny stuff.

The side-scrolling Zelda game with the terrible storyline was incredibly hard. Adventure of Link I think it was...

And the original Zelda game.

Baldur' Gate one is also hard, with all the massive fights when you have about 4hp.

I died loads in Far Cry also, but I didnt use quicksave, only checkpoints.

System Shock 2-"Impossible" difficulty setting.

Then try going through with a wrench.

Yeah i used to play that on my lunch breaks too, easier than Contra, but still very hard.

Does tetris even have an ending? I thought it kept on going forever.

There's stupid challenging like...Super Ghouls and Ghosts

And then there's reasonable challenging like...Battletoads!

In recent years...nah, nothing comes to mind. Look to the NES for challenging games. I cruised through DMC3, Ninja Gaiden Blank, and Shinobi (the supposed three hardest games of the last generation)

Trauma Center isn't that hard. Just takes a lot of practice. However, Gears of War on Insane isn't hard at all... Funny stuff.

No game that I can think of is hard enough if you just practice enough. But to me, the level of difficulty depends on how much you need to practice to become good at it.

That game is insanlly Hard. There's a level in the gamethats underwater, and u must disable 6 bombs, and you are timed. There is also a ton of electfifying seaweed eveywhere. If you tocuh it, it deleptes your life quickly

I beat it. It really wasn't that hard.

Honestly there are about 300 NES games that are rediculously difficult and could be called the hardest of all time. Developers just didn't understand how to tweak difficulty back then.

DMC 3 is the hardest game of all time on normal!!!!!!

The NES, SNES, and the Sega Genesis had a lot of hard games

f-zero GX and if it counts halo 3 on legendary with ALL the skulls turned on. the hardest games are probably the ones where you still had "lives". nowadays you just get checkpointscrunchUK

i would say only the fair way (or people start counting golden eye in 007 mode everything on max :P)

My friends and I beat Goldeneye on "007" difficulty. It was pretty insane as you could only get sot like two or three times per level. It took us like three months.

Well, rhythm games such as GH3 and DDR have a tendency to be harder than most games, but the fact that they offer skill levels makes me not consider the game in general as hard. If you can't beat GH3 on expert, you can beat it on easy. If you can't beat Ghosts N Goblins, then you can't beat it.

Nothing touches Solomons Key for the NES!

That game is ridiculously hard. I played it the other week, you get like 4 lives then your dead, no checkpoints when you die so you get to the second level, die and bam right back to the start of the game. There is also a section with clowns on bikes firing machine guns at you who magically appear and kcik your ass. Random pits everywhere that you can barely see. gargoyles that fly off screen that randomly fly in and attack you who you can't dodge, normal enemies who hide in barrels and pop out and throw bombs at you, penguins on parachutes that seem to block every jump. And that's the first level. Don't even get me started on the two big statues that fire cogs at you and who you can't jump on unless you choose the exact right place because for some reason their levers are magic and hurt you when you touch them....[/rant]

Solomon's Key was still harder, never finished it, but I finished this batman game, I think I was the only one in my hood that did. :)

Some versions have a maximum or something but it should go on forever until you mess up

actually there are more harder games now-days then in the past but they use savepoints so you can repeat a level again and again and again but after finish the game you dont have the feeling it was harder course it was not that frustrating :)

in timesplitter2 ,3 for example there are "Broken challenges" where you have too repeat the same level 150 times or more just hoping they spawn on the right place or you are unable to get platin !

The controls are so broken that it actually is funny

Contra III, even on easy and co-op is still insanely difficult to beat (I haven't done it). Super R-type III on the easiest setting will make you cry. And MDK 2 for the Dreamcast.

R-type III is *nothing* besides Gradius III, and even that was easier in the SNES than the Arcade.

ever played F zero gx ? i dont know how dmc is but F-zero is definitely one of the youcantbeatmeifyouareahumen games.

super R-type III is hart too but contra is not as hard as F-zero gx for me
