On an annual basis, what's the most you'd be willing to pay for PSN/Live?
We're already paying a measly $5/mo ($60 annually) for both Live and PSN, so it only seems reasonable to expect price hikes in the future, so i'm wondering what your breaking point is where you finally say NO.
If they bump the price any higher ppl will demand more content. Sony fans are already going abit crazy about the recent PSN+ games being filled with indie titles

both of them can't ask for more from gamers without major backlash
All they have to say is;
"For us to bring you the best content and further improve our online system, investments need to be made. PSN/XBL price will be increased an additional $10."
Maybe they will throw a carrot/bone to the masses.....but enough of them will bite.
In fact, I can see Sony and Microsoft announce price hikes, if they were to do so, around the same time. Less people will complain and accept the hike if the other party does the same thing.
I don't want the their free games. I don't want to play console games online. I don't want to pay money to enable online features of a game that should just work. **** that.
I want to play whatever exclusives appeal to me and put my consoles back in the closet.
I'd probably pay up to $200 a year for Xbox Live if I had to. Being able to play games with my friends online who otherwise live too far away for me to regularly play with is very valuable to me.
$0 ...I can play online on PC without paying extra.. :P
Yes, but the experience is far inferior. Live and PSN are so much easier to connect with friends, and it's not easy to set up your PC in the living room. Not to mention, PC gaming is, and has always been, plagued with hackers, bugs, glitches, etc.
The only reasonable price for online multiplayer in which the servers are still hosted by the publishers and developers of the game = $0 USD
So $0 USD. Anything more and you are being duped.
I agree with this guy. One of the big reasons I am still a PC only gamer(besides the Wii U). I became a PC gamer because of the graphics, mods, exclusives, and controls, but it only cemented my stay when they decided to charge you for your own internet.

Far inferior? Discord is better than any chat/friend program that Live or PS+ has. It uses better codecs. You can make multiple rooms(voice channels) within your own server, have multiple servers all within your app, have a friend list, and keep tabs on people playing basically any game(if they decide to not make it private). People can tag you in any server and you can customize notifications on each and every server or friend. You can even make other people admin so they can create rooms, kick people, move people around rooms, and etc. Servers are also free to make.
Oh yeah, and you can individually control the volume for every person in your voice channel. Let's say my friend Bob has a crappy mic with low volume, but Steve has an awesome mic. I can turn only Bob's volume up on my end to 200% or whatever arbitrary number, and leave Steve's as is, or if it's too loud, turn it down to 50% volume.
This literally blows any party chat PS+ and Live have out of the water. And, here's the best part: It's completely free.
It might be a bit harder to connect with people, because you have to send them your gamer tag for Steam/Origin/Uplay, but the amount of stuff you can actually do after you get connected is only about 5 times more powerful. And just lol @ saying PC is full of glitches, but consoles aren't... #fakenews
I do not pay for Gold and I'm thinking to stop my PSN+ subscription. The only reason I still have it is because I'm too lazy to check whether or not the amount I save with discounts is bigger than the actual costs of PSN+. I don't pla yonline on consoles, that's what PCs are here for. I really only have it for discounts.
Only one I might pay for is Nintendo's. And I fucking hate it. Let me play Mario Kart free like I usually do! Now I have to pay? **** you, but I will still probably pay. Nintendo's online is the cheapest, but paying for online still sucks huge balls.

I'm not willing to pay for online when PC can do it for free and most of all better. I guess I'm just spoiled because I started out playing online games for PC and I never played a dime for online.
Renting games like what PS Plus and Xbox Gold offer doesn't interest me and does not make me more inclined to spend money on online.
I'm most likely gonna be a gamer all my life, taking into account the cost of both XBOX, Playstation and Nintendo onlines... paying for that every year... I could buy many, many games for that amount of money, some new consoles too.
If you're playing on a console, this is not even up for debate.. both PSN+ and XBLG cost $60 (USD).. Nintendo is playing coy.. and I'm sure their service will be $50 ($40 a year at the very least). So unless you're playing on a PC.. this is a moot debate.

You sound confused.
I sound like I hate paying for online, but at the same time am frustrated I have to if I want to play Mario Kart online. It's not that confusing.
I'm not going to pay someone on a monthly basis if they can't even explain what I'm paying for.
But then there's no choice, if you are stuck on console. Consoles are very expensive for gaming.
I'm confused about it, too. I have paid for a few months of PS+ Was it worth it? Yes because I really wanted to make use of some online functionality. Was it OK? No. I feel like they held it ransom. Like I had to pay twice for it. I consider it a big disadvantage of consoles.
I think the current price is fair. Sure, playing online should be free, but considering i love indies, 5 euros per month to get 3 or 4 games is a great deal to me.
@DragonfireXZ95: Oh! I had never tried Discord. I just installed it and it looks very slick and smooth. I'll have to dig into it some more. It looks like you can also use it for console gaming (maybe through the discord phone app?) Interesting.
I never liked Teamspeak and Ventrilo... I guess because 1. I'm not a native English speaker 2. I'm shy and 3. I wasn't familiar enough with the programs to use them smoothly. This looks very beginner friendly. It may help me to get over the hurdle. Thanks for mentioning it!
I only pay between $20-$30 just for PS+ 1 year when you can find great deals when prepaid cards go on sale from time to time and no, I'm not just paying for MP, I'm also getting good discounts when I shop on PSN.

Yeah, I was never a big fan of teamspeak or ventrilo, either, but I absolutely adore Discord. Was going to make a donation just because of how awesome it is.
Nothing. Well, ok, maybe a wee bit, but the whole thing annoys me and I don't like online gaming enough to justify it. When I play online, I play online with a small group of friends on PC.
I pay around 40 Euros a year for xbox live and i got 4 free games a month and dedicated servers i am fine with it.
You get dedicated servers in Call of Duty and For Honor? Whoa! You are the only one!
EA provides dedicated servers to many of their games. Do you also pay them?
I paying for Azure servers. I rather not be on peer to peer. Microsoft first party have dedicated servers. Microsoft also has policy of not charging for multiplayer DLC maps, its free for all. I also see 4 games a month. So i have no problem paying the price of xbox live.
How many gaming companies don't provide dedicated servers? So why would i hate Microsoft for providing a better service?

So, how many games does that come in handy with? 2? Lol
I'm just pointing out that other smaller game companies also provide dedicated servers... for free to their consumers.
You know, being a smart consumer isn't just opening your wallet up to everything thrown to you. ;)

All Halo games, Titanfall 1`, think Ryse has servers not sure though? Sunset Overdrive. All Gears of War games. All Forza games. Halo Wars 2
I don't know any indie or small company on console that uses dedicated servers? Name a few?

EA gives dedicated servers and they're smaller. What other multiplayer games do you guys have? Ubisoft is just cheap, so they don't give shit, although they should.
Titanfall also gave us dedicated servers on PC.. and look at that, it was free. Even using the same server infrastructure.
Ryse doesn't have dedicated servers.
Halo Wars 2, Gears and Forza all have dedicated servers also on PC... For free. So tell me, what are you paying for again? Is it to rent a few games that you have no choice in choosing?
Of course, many games on PC also allow you to host your own servers for free or by renting. Ark and CS:GO are two examples.
Why doesn't console just nix the online payment and allow that kind of model? That way, people that want to pay for it, can, and the ones that only play MP every so often or nearly never aren't stuck paying for a monthly fee? Oh yeah. Greed.

PC xbox community is tiny they had to give it for free on there. Microsoft was hardly going to charge for live when its free with Steam.

Titanfall 1 was EA. Did you forget? Need for Speed had dedicated servers(of course, they might not be up anymore due to it being an old game and all). Titanfall 2 also has dedicated servers: https://www.vg247.com/2016/07/27/titanfall-2-will-use-multiplay-dedicated-servers-for-their-minimal-latency/

We get exemplary discounts on games through Steam and other 3rd party key sellers. All without paying any sort of fee. Also, we get to keep them and are not required to keep paying to play them.
EDIT: Oh yeah, Blizzard also gave dedicated servers with Overwatch, Diablo 3 and Starcraft.

Dedicated server support is expensive. And the lists of games you got is not that big. I think CS-GO servers are crappy too have not heard great things and the game visually looks like a 10 year old 360 game.
Titanfall 1 used Azure first, they had to continue that with Titanfalll 2. Respawn is an independent studio i believe EA just publishes their games, i believe? Need for Speed have no clue about.
