in terms of tv its well way to expensive. the tvs at cheapest are what like 1400 maybe the lowest i seen was 1700ish. Than you factor in price for glasses which are like what 150-200 bucks roughly. And thats for one pair. 3d is not worth it now and its one gimmick i want to die. I rather have motion controls than 3d.xbox360isgr8t
$900 if you catch this one on sale.

And I'd rather have thought-based controls than motion controls.

other than the cool effect, what does 3d bring to gaming that will fundamentally change the way we play? It seems like nothing more than a visual enhancement. HDTV's were a huge step in quality improvement, The jump from SD to HD was a big one. Of course it is not necissary to enjoy games in HD, but graphics do play a big role in immersing players and helping to visually tell a story that SD tv could not do from lack of quality images. Now the jimp from HD to 3D is not as big as SD to HD. In fact current 3D games look wrose than regular HD games. a good percentage of population cant see 3D effect, or many get headaches from it.

Sure 3D may be a nice option, but b/c it doesnt alter game mechanics it really is just a gimmick. Its disturbing to see 3D being the main focus point of a game instead of the gameplay mechanics it offers.

HuusAsking

It could alter game mechanics if game designers put depth to use. For example, optical illusions could need 3D to be penetrated. Or 3D may be needed to distinguish between a small but near target and a large but distant target.

That's just gimmicks. In real life, there are a number of things your eyes and brain use to determine distance and depth that don't rely on stereoscopic vision. This is why people with only one good eye can still have depth perception that can be just as good in most situations as someone with two eyes. Many of these same clues, such as the size of shadows, relative size of similar objects, objects passing in front or behind each other, etc. have been used for years in games. To artificially remove that kind of thing just to try to givr some kind of actual value to stereoscopic 3d effects is taking a step backwards.

This probably only happens to me... But my eye stings when watching movies in 3D. Though it looks amazing I leave the theater thinking I should've just watched it on the standard screen. No idea if this will happen with 3D tv's and gaming but my guess is the same thing will happen. Other than that I have no problem with 3D. I just don't really care about it. Never did.

Why all the hate on 3D? It's called damage control. Cows and lemmings are masters at it.

[QUOTE="KungfuKitten"][QUOTE="HuusAsking"]IINM OLEDs still have an issue with working life, especially in the blues.HuusAsking
What do You mean with working life? Like how long it still functions properly? Sorry my english isn't that good but with my limited knowledge i can't determine what the blues mean either, so it's kind of impossible for me to understand what You said.

Organic LEDs possess an issue in that they can only stay lit for so long before they deteriorate and start to fade (they can no longer keep up the brightness). Currently, this problem occurs after around 14,000 hours of working life, and the problem tends to emerge first in the blue OLEDs rather than the red or green ones.

But that is no problem whatsoever because they are supercheap to make. Or at least that is the last thing i heard of it? They'll use them on milk cartons and cloths and other commercial stuff. They could sell huge ass screens for like $100, and people could buy several at a time, right?

The problem with that though is that any gameplay mechanics that require 3D would then render a game unplayable by anyone (like myself) that does not get the 3D effect. So as it stands, 3D is just another thing to get all the techheads in an uproar about. To me, 3D feels like the technological version of fireworks, yes we ooh and ahh over them for a bit, but eventually the get boring and we go inside.

Its come to my attention that alot of hardcore gamers seem to hate the idea of 3D gaming, and revile it as a joke, and as a gimmick. What I wanna know is whats to hate about it, and whats to love, or even expect of it? I as an open minded individual can always see the potential in just about everything(excluding handheld 3d of course, but thats an entire subject entirely) and I see alot of cool, and expressional way to immerse we as gamers deeper into the games built around the technology.

i'm cool with it, but it has to be two things for me: 1. affordable (reasonably) 2. i don't have to wear glasses.

i think it's kinda like what happened before avatar. before it came out most people hated 3d and considered it a gimmick. then they saw it and everyone raved how awsome it was. i think it will be about the same here it's just going to take a crysis or a killzone 3 to change everyone's mind

Ragashahs
Yea but there's a difference in watching 3D on a 50ft screen vs a 50inch. Well unless you plan on sitting 1 ft away from the TV, but that kinda ruins the whole PC vs Console argument.

the only 3D worth hating is Sony's half-assed, expensive Ps3 implementation that is destined to fail (just like their other current gen efforts) the 3DS and PSP2 (assuming it exists and uses something similar) will be cheap, realistic implementations of this technology

I commend Sony on at least trying to get 3D out, but It probably has to do more with selling 3D TV's. I don't care for 3D but if your going to give us 3D do it when you don't have to downgrade on graphics. Maybe PS4.

I ask everyone I see a 3D movie with and they say their eyes don't sting. While mines are tearing up and I'm trying to recollect my vision lol.

OLED is still a maturing technology. And they are not that cheap (the actual printing process is cheap, but it requires an expensive substrate). That's why their use is mostly limited to small mobile screens.

So far? Cost. I really don't want to replace my TV, and invest in comfortable 3D glasses right now. I'm honestly 2-3 years away from even thinking about getting into HD 3D gaming or even movies. It's too new, and it's a technology I don't have enough faith in to invest thousands of dollars. 3D has failed before, don't forget that.

I can't say I hate 3D, but at the same time I have absolutely no interest in it ether. Expense aside I wear glasses and I'm not putting glasses on over my glasses just so I can experience some cheap effect that will probably just give me a headache.

I dont hate it, Its just that, I would lovve to have a 3d tv, but i dont wanna drop a few thousand dollars for one along with the glasses.

Its not a necessity, especially since people already have dropped a hundred to thousands on their current HD set up

thats why I think people are hating on it.

I see Sony's implementing 3d into the ps3 not so much as saying "hey go out and spend money on a new tv" as it is them recognizing that some people are buying 3d tvs, and they want to support those people. When the PS3 and 360 came out supporting HD, it wasn't like everyone had to go out and buy an hdtv to use those systems. I didn't have an hdtv when i got my ps3, and ps3 games were still great. When I did finally buy an hdtv, I already had a console to support it. Same with 3d. People don't have to go buy 3dtvs to play ps3 games. But if they do, at some point, buy 3dtvs, their PS3 will be ready with 3d support.

Sure, 3DS is a cheaper 3d option, but if people want to watch movies in 3d or play games in 3d on a bigger screen than 3 inches, they're going to eventually get a 3d tv, and if or when they do, the ps3 will already have full 3d support without any additional cost. If Ninty comes up with an option to watch/play 3d on a full size screen (without the need to buy a new tv) then the comparison between ps3's 3d and 3ds will be valid.

Either way, I don't care until someone invents a nonstereoscopic 3d technology.

3DTVs without glasses is on the way :) PS3 will be compatible with any 3DTV output that people will invent that uses HDMI. Makeing 3D on portable was not a problem since last year (there already 3D cameras with same 3D display as 3DS uses, so no wonder 3DS use it and Nintendo pick right moment to you guys think that they make some technology inovation. But it's impossible to do with home consoles without new TV or deliver console as a TV (like portable is), so Sony don't have any choose and Nintendo also

Again, 3DTV without glasses will come maybe not from Sonys hand, but PS3 will be ready for it.

Its not that I hate the idea its just its way to expensive. A lot of people still dont have an HDTV, and the people that just bought one probably arent very prone to go out and buy a new 3000 dollar 3D TV. It just seems like a big gimmick to me. The fact that you have to wear glasses is also kinda annoying, and the glasses are really expensive to. I saw a "deal" at futureshop offering 2 pairs of 3D glasses and a 3D movie for....400.00 dollars, wow, what a great deal. And the glasses are flimsy as **** to and would break in 5 seconds in a house full of kids.
