Some people believe that the 360 has the console war already won but sales argue otherwise. According to a few sources (vgcharts, teamxbox) the 360 is only doing slightly better (6% better to be exact) than the original Xbox was in its time period (talking sales here).
Why is the 360 only selling slightly better than the original Xbox in its time period? Why is the PS3 outselling the 360 in its time period? Shouldn't the 360 have sold more considering it released a year earlier than both the Wii and PS3?
I'm not arguing that the 360 is a flop, I'm just saying that there is no evidence to suggest that the 360 will be number 1 in the console war. Nintendo, on the other hand, have really improved their game. Wii is doing much better than the GC was in its time period. PS3 is doing about the same as the PS2, worse in Japan due to the Wii atm. We'll see what happens I suppose but my point was that there isn't any evidence to suggest the 360 will be number 1. Just want to point that out.
What do you guys think? A little surprised the 360 isn't selling incredibly? Or do you believe the year head start will cause the 360 to be more popular in the end?
I say wait for more the more appealing games to come out before saying that the 360 will end up likes its predecessor.
By appealing games, I mean the usual ever-so-talked-about games such as Halo 3, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, maybe Blue Dragon for those who care, etc.
360 obviously will end up like the Xbox but then Microsoft will bring out a new console and the fan-boys will pretend that the 360 never happened just like they wiped the Xbox from their minds.

Fortunatly for Xbox its not going to necesserily be about consoles sold more than how much market can it take away from Sony...At this point anyone can safely say MS has and will continue to chip away from that Sony dominance every day. Also, Sony has kind of helped MS in doing so...Â
Bottom line...The fact that MS has figured out a way to be this successful and appealing so shortly into its second console, so much so that people are converting from a console jugernaut such as Sony, is amazing...
Because the 360 seem's to have more support, features and overall "buzz" than the original XB had... Sure it's not lighting up the sales charts but heres one thing to take into consideration.. The 360 is doing, as you put, about 6% better than the original did in the same time period.. HOWEVER it has a $400 price tag compared to $300 for the fully featured XB.. There are far too many variables to add/subtract to declare a winner at this point, but the 360 is in good shape if you ask me..Â

   Um, the 360 has outsold the PS3 everytime NPD has had numbers since the PS3s launch going day to day, not timeframe, which is more accurate a comparison.    On top of that, doing better than the original Xbox is a good thing, regardless of how much better it is, since the 360 has a lead in sales, which the original Xbox never was even close to having.    All three systems will do great, and all of them will spawn a successor. However, I don't think we will ever see another system hit 100 million units sold, simply due to the heavy competition they all face, since this gen, all three systems have major selling points.

January NPD's for Xbox 360 in 2006 were 250,000 units sold and that was due to a supply issues: via Gama Sutra And the PS3 did what? 244k, and that was without supply issues. Someone please clear this up for me, I'm not a math genius but I can speculate that January NPD at this time last year the 360 still outsold the PS3.
Sigh, another silly thread the very-best, you're starting to sound like a cow. The Ps3 has sold less than 2 million so far. Hint thats how much the X360 sold in the holiday season in NA... When the games come out, could be too late. Too few standout games, too long away and not spaced out well.

Well, PS3 isn't cheap and it's selling well against a console that's $250 and the 360 that's had a whole year head start and does have a killer app, Gears of War. PS3/Wii have practically nothing major yet (PS3 will get MGSIV, Wii with SSBB) and yet they are still selling very well against the 360.
There's no doubt the 360 should have sold more with no competition. PS2 is a last gen system. It's popularity against a next gen system like the 360 shows just how strong Sony really is.

First, both consoles just launched. Most consoles sell well when they launch. Though, the PS3 is not necessarily doing well. It's just doing well considering its price tag. Second, what are you talking about no competition ? Wake up dude, the Playstation 2 is still competing to this very day and it was competing against the 360 for sure.
I think that the 360 is doing pretty well, it got its first real killer app a year in. The original xbox launched with a killer app which would help boast your sales for a year.. not 3 months like the 360.

As of right now the PS3 is in last place and the price point isn't helping..

OK, let's say people are still fascinated with their PS2 because it has so many great games etc.
Will all those people switch to the 360 after they're finished with their PS2 or does it make more sense that they'd switch to the PS3 since it's getting the continuations to all major series from the PS2?

I think the smoke will clear years from now, and it will be: 1.) Nintendo 2.) 360 3.) PS3 The big story will be Sony going from first, to worst... The Wii got one thing right to gain market share, price. If the Wii is gaining a ton of ground over last gen, and the 360 is gaining a bit... then guess who's losing all the ground they are gaining. Bingo... Sony will have a huge mountain to climb to win back some fans, and that could take more than the PS4 to do it. I think the Wii will win, but the margin will be almost non-exsistant, and maybe, if all the moons align just right the 360 may even edge it out. All of the above is only my opinion, so flame someone else... I'm just donating my $0.02

The majority of consumers typically wait 2 years before buying their next gen console (evident by the sales spike 2 years after the launch of the PS2). If PS3 has sold around 2 mil without any major titles and a hefty price tag it's going to be interesting how many units it will sell when it's a little cheaper and has the series that made the PS2 so popular.
PS3 will begin outselling the 360 in the coming months (Just a prediction, not a fact).

I'm not trying to bash the 360 cause I plan on buying one soon, but I'm just saying that I see where the TC is coming from, and think MS could have done so much more with their one year head start.

You can't know that at this point.. Hell there are converts out there that simply want to game and don't like the pricepoint of the PS3.. I personally know serveral..
The 360 sold around the SAME DAMNED AMOUNT the PS3 did.. WTH are you talking about.. And it took months for the original XB to sell through it's 250k shipment with the original XB.. The 360 isn't doing worse.. It's doing better.. ( not that, that's a compliment.)

This question is random and offtopic, but I will answer you. Brand helps, but people aren't that loyal to brand name as you think. Take a look back at the PS1/ 64 generation and you will understand. The 360 didn't do very well, but wasn't that the same case with the PS2 launch as well ?

Wii's targeting a very different market than Sony/MS and most hardcore gamers will buy a PS3/360 if they do buy a Wii.
I'm not going to flame you for saying Wii will come first. All figures atm show exactly that so it's certainly not silly to believe the console will dominate the console war.
