my laptop (called buttons): Core i7 4700MQ, 16GB of ram, 780M 4GB and a 1TB crucial SSD. in hindsight i should have gone with a core I5 with a faster clock and gotten a better wireless chip. intel wireless: not even once. overall a great laptop though. still can deliver the pretty and is a great daily driver. the model is a clevo P170sm. before anyone asks: i got a laptop because i thought i would need the portability. it was either gaming laptop or no PC gaming. in hindisght i didnt need it quite as much but eh....whaddya gonna do.
old desktop (called mittens). my linux box and about to be retired. a phenom 2 X4 955BE, 8GB of ram and a 2GB RX 460. it had a HD 5850 but the dirvers for that are not really being developed any more and some games just werent playable (dirt rally for example). the 5850 was great though. one of AMDs top cards.
but its to be retired. the phenom 2....it just doesnt have any fight left in it. its great for simpler newer games but f1 2017 on linux with a phenom 2....aint happening. its also bottlenecking the RX 460.
so my new linux box (to bear the name Budgie with pride): ryzen 5 1500X, 16GB 3200MHz ddr4, and the same RX 460 as above (for now...im keeping an eye on the graphics card market over here). Ill be interested to see what the 460 can deliver (if anything) on the OSS driver stack with a much better CPU behind it. im probably going to switch from ubuntu 16.04 to solus OS also. on the GPU front im thinking maybe an RX 680 (im sure one will be released next year) or something like it.
18 GB of 1600 Mhz DDR3 (one kingston 6GB kit and a corsair 12 GB kit)
Asus EVO 840 250 GB for windows
Intel 750 series 400 GB PCI-E SSD
EVGA GTX 1080 Superclocked edition
Asus 24" 1080p 144hz monitor (forget the exact model)
Surprisingly still running everything at Ultra anywhere between 1080p and 1600p depending on the game, at well over 70 fps. I am looking forward to upgrading to either an 8700K, or possibly ice lake in the future. TBH most of the shit I play these days isn't exactly graphically intensive anyways.

You have no need to ever upgrade if you still get great results.
@Random_Matt: Thanks, part of me wants to see if I can hold off until 2020, just so I can actually say I got 10 years out of a CPU. But i'm sure the upgrade bug will hit me before then.
Either that or it'll up and die. it's been overclocked from 3.2 to 4.0 for almost 8 years now.
128 GB M.2 SSD (need to add a second one soon, this laptop takes 2 of them)
1366x768 screen
I specifically picked this low screen resolution for 2 reasons.
As laptops cannot have the cpu or video card upgraded, it will last me far longer into the future when the GPU only needs to crunch that resolution.
Also, the only place the screen ever gets used is on a plane, and for that it's good enough. The other 99% of the time it's either hooked up to a 1080p TV in the bedroom with wireless keyboard/mouse combo, or plugged into an external monitor when I take it over to a friend's house.
I picked this up in December last years for around $1300 CDN including taxes and shipping, so the price was definitely right. Especially considering how overpriced Alienware typically is.
@Wasdie: how do you get two different displays on two different monitors from one PC?
I would really like to get my second monitor hooked up to work in tandem with my main monitor, but able to view two different things on them (for example, game on the main monitor, then web browser for researching the game on the second monitor).

Is this even possible?
Windows 10 has an option in the display settings built in. With Windows 7, you have to use a 3rd party program like Windows Blinds or something.
Er wait, are you talking about desktop backgrounds or just using different apps on multiple monitors? Because you just drag and drop to the 2nd monitor if it's the case of just apps.

Its call magic! lol
its because you have multiple outputs on graphic cards
@Wasdie: I only just upgraded to a 4k 32" predator monitor from that ASUS PB278Q. Would of kept it just didn't have space on my desk, the colours are superb.

It's really much simpler. With two monitors hooked up to the same PC, just choose the multi-monitor options in the display settings, whether the desktop is duplicated on both or extended. Extended is what you want so each screen can have it's own programs placed instead of being copied twice over.
Then assuming you want to play the game on the monitor right in front of you (as the primary), before you start the game just take your browser or what ever program you want to view, and drag it to the other desktop. And there you have it, game on the first screen, other apps on the second in view.
@AdobeArtist: Nice setup. I love the cosplay babe wallpaper.
Her cosplay name is Crystal Graziano. You should check out her Twitter and Facebook pages. She has the most impressive roster of Bioware cosplay, more recently did Morrigan. But also an incredible Zero Suit Samus, plus her Cammy, Powergirl, and Black Cat.
@Grey_Eyed_Elf: Does your CPU (or anyone with a 6th or earlier gen i5) seem to marginally hold back performance in some games? I think I am starting to see it -- especially with my recent GPU upgrade.

Vega 2 did you mean? AMD rarely follows their release schedule lately...

Wow, thanks. I'll go check her out.
? She's quite the knockout, and she looks really good cosplaying those characters especially Powergirl.
GTX 570 OC 2GB and an AMD Phenom II X6 processor with 8GB DDR3 RAM. I'm finally going to upgrade my GPU as it is now less than the minimum requirement for a lot of games I want to play. I'm going to wait for the next line of GPUs or the current ones finally price drop from bit mining process. I'm thinking about gutting my Full ATX tower in a slim mini itx tower.
I wonder guys can I get away with still using a Phenom II X6 or is best if I at least upgrade to a Bulldozer/FX CPU.
Quad SLI GTX 1080 Ti's, overclocked. 128GB of the world's finest rams. I had Intel custom bake me 3 i9 7900X's stacked on top of each other... same rig as most System Warriors I'm sure.

You might wanna upgrade your CPU so you don't run into bottlenecking issues when you upgrade your GPU.
Phenom II X6 is okay with the GTX 570 but I can see you running into bottlenecking when you upgrade it, depending on the GPU you get.
@quadknight: At first I was thinking about a GTX 1050ti but now I want a 1060 3GB (8GB hardly makes a difference in all the benchmarks I've seen). Well an FX 8350 is as low as $100 now so I'd have no problem buying one of those. I figured I could get away with the Phenom II X6 since its a true hex core processor unlike the FX CPUs and not many games have been demanding much of CPUs due to the weaksauce of the Xbox One and PS4.

An FX 8350 would be excellent with a 1060. You'd get the most out of your card with no bottlenecking. Yea, console are totally weaksauce and because of that top of the line CPUs aren't needed at all. With that said though, getting a decent CPU really helps you hit 60fps in most titles the consoles can't.
It's starting to show its age but I still get to play the most recent games on high settings at 1080p so I'm satisfied. My next upgrade will be a new GPU and OCing my CPU but I don't see it happening anytime soon.
I'm due to assemble a new PC soon. But, I don't really feel the urge because I'm sticking to 1080p.
4.5-year old AMD FX8350/6GB GTX 1060 and 4-year old RoG G46VW laptop i5 3230m/GTX 660m (1080p and 768p, respectively). The latter will play games up to Far Cry 4 (low settings).

Go Intel or go Ryzen. FX is a dead end. I know. I have one. ;)
Obviously, you have to pony up for a new motherboard and RAM.

I just checked out the benchmarks between Ryzen and FX dammit guess I am gonna have to get a new motherboard and RAM but at that point I feel like building a mini itx PC. Guess I'll keep my full tower around for video editing and server stuff.
