For me i would have to say God of War 3. I was SOOOO looking forward to it, and for about the first 2 hours of the game i was like OMG YOWZA THIS IS THE MOST MLG THING EVAARRR (exact quote), but after that it just kinda fell apart for me, especially when you got to the long section of climbing boxes in the labrynth and the whining of pandora. "Help me, Kraydos!" i know the GoW games tend to climax a bit early, but this one took the cake. How bout you, bestest game faq/gamespot buddies?

Conviction, it just doesn't feel like a Splinter Cell game anymore. Pretty good storytelling though.

I used to be an avid rhythm game fan a few years back so I'd have to say Guitar Hero 3. It was a step back from Guitar Hero 2 and was the start of the rapid downfall of Guitar Hero.

Conviction. The first three titles in the series were brilliant (and even DA had it's moments), plus the original Bourne-esque, hobo-Sam version of Conviction sounded fantastic. Instead we got a glorified cover shooter with an insta-win button.

Awful? I wouldn't call it awful. It was a good game, but a let-down? Yes it was.

Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. I had 3 hundred bucks saved up all going towards an xbox 360 just for that game, then they released gameplay footage. I seriously wished every worker at rare lost their jobs and had to go look for work for what they did. That game isnt even BK its just a crappy new ip that they were too insecure to try and sell on its own so they slapped on BK. I was so pissed, I remember when I saw it like my whole month was just ruined.

Dragon Age 2. I can't for the life of me figure out what they were thinking. If you take a bowl of punch and urinate in it, it ruins the whole thing. I'm sure there still is plenty of unaffected punch in there, but you can't expect me to enjoy it because you just urinated in the bowl. That's how I feel with Dragon Age 2; small things were changed that never needed to be changed, and subsequently ruined the game for me.

Dragon Age 2. Nothing else compares. It wasn't the worst sequel, because it's not a bad game. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. But it was such a disappointment in comparison to its predecessor, I was devastated. You know that saying "the apple never falls far from the tree"? Well DA2 wasn't even a freakin' apple.

Resistance 2 and Resident Evil 5, for many of the same reasons. They both got mainstreamed, R2 got CoD-ified and RE5 had none of the tension of RE4. Both enjoyable games, but just so disappointing.

Lesson: never give devs bigger budgets for sequels, because they'll piss it all away on flash and spectacle while the tight gameplay they originally had falls by the wayside.

Hit the nail on the head on the first post. Well done, sir. Gears 2 was awful.

Oh, and DA2. How could I have forgotten? Game was so disappointing I couldn't even finish it. BioWare just straight up murdered the franchise with one game. That's pretty impressive.

No. It just wasn't fun, and the story was trite, badly-written garbage. Other than that it was okay.

Funny thing is I can't pin down why the gameplay wasn't fun. It was a combination of a lot of different factors. So I guess I can imagine someone liking it, but at the same time I have to look at some of the reviews and say "What game did you play?"

Real bummer. The franchise had a lot of potential.

Devil May Cry 4. The game was so darn stale that I was just in a constant state of apathy while playing it.

MGS4 was alot better than DMC4, but it was dissapointing how much they watered down the design of the game and how unfocused and undistinctive the story became. Also, the bosses were so much worse and the game hardly ever required steath, turning it into a TPS with a light stealth option.

Mass Effect 2. Went from most-promising sci-fi IP I've every encountered to bro-gamer, chest-high-walls trash. Reading those novels made me wonder if Karpyshyn was even involved with the script for the game. It was just a conglomeration of side-quests and lacked a daunting antagonist. The first game was extraordinary... and as a complete package, ignoring the sequel, it is still an amazing experience. My only gripe was the location of the final boss fight... but then again, I shouldn't complain given what they did to "make up for it" in the second game. I was expecting even greater freedom to explore and discover in the second game... but all I got was a serial melodrama pieced together with one if the worst plots I've ever encountered in a game.

Writing was A LOT worse, too. Campaign was good overall, and Horde's fun if you've never played something like Firefight (which is far, far better), but the multiplayer... oh, God, the multiplayer. It was so bad. Words cannot describe how broken Gears 2's MP is.

WHAT!? You didn't like the 20 hour build-up to a fifteen minute "suicide mission" that would serve as the basic tutorial of any other game? YOU CRAZY DAWG! YOU CRAZY! I bet you probably didn't even like Terminator Salvation. HMPH!
