Slightly more powerful than the PSP,gamecube level
JuarN18
The Gamecube itself is quite a bit more powerful than the PSP.
Its really hard to tell by screens because of how much power the 3D effect takes to use.. So posting screens really doesnt do much for how powerful the system actually is
really? :o[QUOTE="WiiMan21"]
definitely looks better than the wii, and its a little bit better than some of the 360 launch titles.
JuarN18
The graphics look good and all but..
This is not X360 level at all!
SC, MGS3, Resident Evil, ect all look better than some of the LAUNCH 360 titles.
I never said current 360 titles.
Well, what they've shown so far looks better than the best looking PSP games, and this is early stuff for the 3DS. Imagine in 5 years time once devs have learned how to program for the 3DS just how good the games will look?
They're definitely better than PSP/PS2, but I don't know about being equal to Xbox. Either way they're pretty awesome. Can't wait to get my hands on one.
As per Gamingbolt.com, it is in the 360 territory as far as processing power is concerned. At the very least, it is supposed to be definitely more powerful than the Wii. In any case, its graphical prowess is more than any console last gen, and by extension, more than the PSP.charizard1605I thought we didn't even know what processor is in the 3DS?
I thought we didn't even know what processor is in the 3DS? We don't, no. However, comments by several developers seem to put it in that category. Also, there's this: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2010/06/meet-the-graphics-chip-powering-the-nintendo-3ds/[QUOTE="charizard1605"]As per Gamingbolt.com, it is in the 360 territory as far as processing power is concerned. Uh, no.
Nintendo said it is "roughly" as powerful as the GameCube. That means it "roughly" has 24MB RAM, 485Mhz CPU, 150 Mhz GPU, etc.
So its no where near th Xbox 360
I'm thinking its between PSP and GameCube personally, and i'm disapointed that the screen resolution has a x240 in it.
I mean, why not 800x480?
I'm thinking it will have games that mostly look like PSP games
Additionally everyone thinks this is going to be powerful, but for all we know Nintendo could slap the PSP's hardware into this thing. Wouldn't be bad, but everyone is saying "GameCube" this and "Wii" that, i think people are expecting too much. I'd be shocked if this thing was more powerful than the first iPhone (400Mhz CPU, 128MB RAM, etc)
Also, i'm disapointed that it doesn't appear to support multi-touch
Nintendo said it is "roughly" as powerful as the GameCube..
darth-pyschosis
Nintendo has never said anything of the sort.
For the moment all we have to go on is clips of unfinished games and the general capabilities of that Pica200 graphics core.
Um we have no proof that the RE 3DS images are in engine , they look a lot like cutscenes
darth-pyschosis
Capcom confirmed that Revelations was being rendered in real time on the 3DS. (and if they were going to prerender them, I'd think that they would bump up the polygon count)

But Nintendo never said the 3DS would be as powerful as a Gamecube... ever. They haven't spoken on the device's specs, or power, or graphical output AT ALL. Also, we don't know if the device supports multi touch. Again, that's something that simply hasn't been confirmed.Um we have no proof that the RE 3DS images are in engine , they look a lot like cutscenes
Except that Capcom confirmed it was being rendered in real time, using the in game engine.really? :o[QUOTE="JuarN18"]

WOW THAT IS AMAZING!! HOW CAN A HANDHELD DEVICE LOOK OK IN TERMS OF GRAPHICS? Someone please answer. Sure, because looking better than many current gen console games is looking 'okay.' :roll:nintendo seems to have each console be about what an old home console was in terms of graphics for instance DS was similar to N64, GBA like SNES, GBC like a NES so the obvious thing would to have it like the GC. IMO the Wii is so small I think what it can do in terms of graphics shouldn't be a big deal.
i have a question... is the 3d going to be an option? and are all games going to have it? Cause frankly all i would want is another ds with better graphics i dont really care for 3d :/campzor
It's optional. You can turn it off.

as you can see, there's a slider next to the top screen that has the word off on it.
That's the 3D adjuster. You can turn off the 3D.
Also this is Backwards compatible, it can play DS games.

Nintendo never siad any of that.
I guess to be fair its really devs who've been saying since March the "DS2" or 3DS was going to be roughly as powerful as GameCube
Why do we just believe Capcom is telling the whole truth about those screens?
I'm not saying they are fake, bullshots, or whatever. But thats a bit generous to take the company's word when we've seen no gameplay videos (unless i'm missing them) and have little to no information on the title, i mean what is to stop the 3DS Resident Evil from going the way of Resident Evil on PSP or Devil May Cry PSP? (Have we heard anything about them?)
Additionally does anyone remember the first few screenshots of Red Steel months before release? Had some nice lighting and other touchs. When I got the game the character models, among other things, didn't look as good as in those shots IMO.
I'd wait to see a game like RE 3DS in gameplay videos.
I'm just saying I'm not seeing anything Brawl or Super Mario Galaxy level in 3DS screens so far, that actually has motion involved you know, I'm not counting Mario Kart, MGS3 or anything but Kid Icarus since, well those other samples are very controlled by Nintendo and the developers.
Nintendo is going to underpower this thing IMO. It is heading that way.
I can't imagine there will be multi-touch, though there should be. Nintendo would've said it, its not a hard thing to add, but its using a stylus so that kinda implies it won't be multi-touch. Also, we will be lucky if this thing has more than 2GB of storage, or Wireless N.

Once again, developers have said this, Not Nintendo, my mistake
But Nintendo isn't saying this is near the level some people are saying
Get ready to underwhelmed when the specs hit the net guys

We've gotten some reports supposedly from developers that it would be on par with the GameCube. But then we've also gotten ones that say it's more powerful than the Wii.
Again if Capcom was going to prerender, then why limit the polygon count? (look at the fingers and elbows)
There are touch screen technologies that allow for both stylus and multitouch finger input. The latest Sony ebook readers have one example of such. However it seems to me that multitouch is mostly used to make up for the lack of physical controls on smartphones.

sweet..thanks for everyone replying to me..wow looks like my ds lite is gonna get traded in :DAbout Gamecube level, maybe a bit less because of the 3D effect. Also don't expect graphics like the most beautiful Gamecube games from the launch games.
Another thing. They could probably have much better graphics in the device but for me battery life > graphics on a handheld. And nintendo hits the sweet spot on that.
It may not be as powerful as the Wii, or GC, but the resolution is less, and developers are better now than they were with the GC, so we will see good things.SaltyMeatballs
Plus that Pica200 is apparently a lot more developer friendly than Flipper or Hollywood.

After a year or two, not the launch games though. Those will look like gamecube launch games is my guess.
We'll see stuff that looks better than most Wii games because unlike Wii development, third parties will put their A team on the 3DS.
But the best looking 3DS game wont look better than the best looking Wii game.

i dont remember any devs really complaing about the complexity of flipper and hollywood. with the GC most devs just complained about the lack of ram (a common complaint from console devs....i wonder why MS, sony and ninty never listen. meh..another topic). the closest i heard to a complaint about those GPUs was that you needed assembly to make the GPU shine and that assembly code was not reusable on other platforms. since the GC had a small market few devs saw the need to really push it. as for the pica 200.....really hard to say. i take it we have seen the tech demo for the pica 200: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A-xxUyJvQQ that looks remarkably close to the iphones UE3 implementation. BUT it is just a tech demo. as i understand it the 3DS version is also not just a standard pica 200....ninty have requested a few more features to be implemented. the launch games are also all over the place. some look like they belong on a dreamcast (mainly the N64 ports) while other look like there out of the wiis league. the playable ones though look around DC/PS2 levels. kid icarus for example looks like it would be right at home on the GC. theres also questions around the 3DSs CPU and ram and these will also be a big factor in the 3DSs graphical capability (consoles are not like PCs remember...the CPU tends to shoulder more graphics work in a console compared to a PC). so its really hard to say. pure speculation on my part but at best i think itll be able to run the iphone implementation of UE3 in an actual game (though i dont think itll get UE3 support). i dont see it going any further than that. Please Log In to post.
