Thats basically it. Whatever you choose, probably defines what type of gamer you are and your preferences..maybe age too? lolsandbox3d
Yeah, you said it brother. I noticed the older gamers that value outstanding gameplay tend to go for SMG, while the youngsters get caught up in the cheesy melodrama and mash up of clunky gameplay systems that is MGS4.
Guess I never really thought about it that way.
How did you get all that just from somebody's forum post??? Most people dont tell there age on here in normal conversation.MGS4 is the only game to deserve a 10. Also MGS4 was the only one to get a 10 from gamespot, IGN and Famitsu :)
I've only played 2 of them, SMG2 and GTA IV. I'd give SMG2 a 9.5, only due to the Green Stars being not as interesting as the yellow ones, and GTA IV an 8.5. I can fully see why SMG2 got a 10, as gameplay-wise it's about as close to perfection as any game has come yet. How GTA IV ended up getting straight 10s by multiple major reviewing sites is still a mystery to me. These guys review games for a living, and they still failed to spot some outdated gameplay concepts, pretentious storytelling, abitrary activities and many other minor but therefore no less real shortcomings. Don't get me wrong, I still loved playing through it and thought it was a major gameplay improvement over the previous GTAs. In fact, it's one of the first Rockstar games that doesn't have to rely on its storytelling to compensate for lackluster programming and bad game design. Still, I think the only reason this game got such high grades is because the publisher bribed a few people here and there. It's a mere suspicion, but I just can't think of any other reason as I'm definitely not the only one who thinks this.
Galaxy 2 was just... egh. I was playing it... but I just couldn't enjoy it. Story's a big thing for me so MGS4 is my favourite.
[QUOTE="hd5870corei7"]Famitsu gave New Super Mario Bros. Wii a 40/40. I refuse to take them seriously after that. That is probably because Famitsu is a Japanese magazine and they review games based on what appeals to Japanese gamers they also gave Nintendogs a 40/40. But Gamespot gave that game a 9.4 (I think it could've been a 9.6)MGS4 is the only game to deserve a 10. Also MGS4 was the only one to get a 10 from gamespot, IGN and Famitsu :)

Famitsu's bias towards Japanese games is well-known, but there's a difference between giving Japanese games a break and giving a perfect score to a game that very obviously didn't deserve it. The only thing it added to a 35-year old concept is a relatively fun local multiplayer. But I don't see how a game can get such scores when it does nothing new, does not perfectionise or refine any of the existing concepts, and has a plain bad soundtrack. I think cultural differences are too easy an excuse, as they could practically give any Japanese a 40/40 by the standards they use. Not to mention that NSMBW was massively overrated as well by many Western outputs.
Yes, but did you play every game? From what I've played of it, I thought GTA4 was worse than MGS4 and much less deserving of its score, even though I wouldn't rate either of them a 10. Yeah I've played GTA4. I thought the minigames could really have benefited from motion controlls.[QUOTE="RogueShodown"][QUOTE="Fried_Shrimp"] Have played. Think it deserved 8.0 The first Metal Gear Solid was my favorite.Fried_Shrimp
They actually do have motion controls on the PS3 version!
GTA 4..... I honestly hated this game. SMG was brilliant with excelent level design and MGS4 is a truely unique series.
[QUOTE="metalgear-solid"]is better. Nicely put ;)MGS4 is the BEST game ever made. Period.

GTA4. It was a bad Grand Theft Auto game and was just plain boring. It was impressive on a technical aspect which wowed everyone when they first played the game.

but i can understand why some people like that movie.
GTA4, though SMG2 was a cakewalk difficulty-wise.rcignoniToo true. Everyone talked like this game was challenging, and I got all 120 stars and rarely had any difficulty. What gives? I haven't played MGS4 or GTA4, but I can imagine that GTA4 is quite overrated. The entire series is a bit overrated, it seems to me.
